LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) "Year One," the upcoming Jack Black comedy from producer Judd Apatow and director Harold Ramis, has been rated PG-13, rather than R, after the filmmakers made some cuts to the film.
The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Rating Appeals Board on Tuesday upheld the R rating originally given to the movie, in which Black and Michael Cera play a couple of barely out-of-the-cave men who travel through the ancient world.
Apatow and Ramis appeared before the board to argue for a more lenient rating, but the appeals board still opted for the R, which requires that moviegoers younger than 17 be accompanied by an adult, because of "some sexual content and language."
The filmmakers then made cuts to the film, and as a result, the ratings board has given it a PG-13 "for crude and sexual content throughout, brief strong language and comic violence."
Sony Pictures will release the film domestically June 19.
