Hell yeah. I read this over at the Digital Bits, and was hoping someone made a thread here to talk about it. These Criterion collections are gonna be the end of me, but they're damn cool.

Long live Kurosawa.

Long live Kurosawa indeed!

Man, I haven't bought 7S either, but next Januray, after I've moved....I'll go to the first DVD store I see and I'll buy the Criterion editions of 7S, Y and S and watch them back to back

So I guess people don't like awesome things :(

I want bigger pictures of the dvd!!!

Bought the Seven samurai SE, and woah, incredible. I already own the old criterion kurosawa box set, but they are all must haves, no matter what.

Toshiro and Kurosawa were gods among films. And when they were together doing samurai flicks, nobody could even hope to beat them.

yet more films to add to my collection:

Seven Samurai
Ikiru
Ran
Red Beard
Rashomon
Throne of Blood
Kagemusha

Nice covers. And this is coming from someone who sometimes hates Criterion Collection covers and finds some of them pretentious, i.e. Seven Samurai.

I love Yojimbo and Sanjuro, but I can't afford to double dip with them. :csad:

Can't say I've ever found a DVD cover pretentious, especially Criterion, who continually release the best cover art/packaging in the market, in my opinion.

With all the s****y Photoshopped cover art these days, Criterion is a breath of fresh air.

This is what I mean:

Lame, lame, lame. I only meant some of the covers. Some I like a lot.

Yeah, I here ya, but I really like those three covers, especially the 7S one.

How is that pretentious?

Seriously, how the **** is the Seven Samurai cover pretentous?!!? Do you even know the meaning of the word?

I am sure you hear this often, but you might want to consider ritalin. And I read you the first time, no need to repeat yourself. :whatever:

Anyway, pretentious isn't the best word, but the fact that they couldn't come up with anything better than some lame titles against a black background is pretty uninspired. The movie deserves some awesome poster art or something. It could be a little pretentious on their part to think that they don't need to do anything but splash the titles on the cover.

Wow....you do realize that that "black background" is the flag that represents the seven samurai? It is actually a very clever and intelligent piece of cover art. And yes they can just splash the titles, its Seven Samurai. Maybe it is not that they are being pretentius...just you are being ignorant?

Yes, I realize that. Doesn't make it "very clever and intelligent" though, unless your expectations for such are lower than average.

And I'm not just talking about one damn cover. Take a look at the other ones I posted. Ran and Armageddon are even worse!

I can't believe I missed this thread. Great films and now I can't wait for January. And I'm going to agree with the others and say I love the Seven Samurai cover.
