You gotta love California. Not really though

Can't we, as a country, just stop making cars, and make only hybrid and electric cars? I dont't see why we can't. We are already billion or trillions in debt. We will NEVER be able to pay that off. I say forget about out huege debt...and just make better cars for the enviorment.

What the f**k? Not everyone can afford hybrid and electric cars for christ sakes. There is not enough demand to just END the production of normal cars. The economics just don't justify the means of your idea. You can't just enact laws to just save the enviroment, there are economic and social factors you have to take into consideration.

try thinking a wee bit bigger about this

He aspires to own a gas station someday. Who do you think he's really going to side with on this issue?

It's the business that's immediately accessible to being able to own. I only need $9 grand to start. Any other business, and I'd need $50 grand +, which makes it impossible for me to start. Also, no matter the business, I'd still need a car to do deposits.

However, oil companies are simply energy carriers. They will largely be supplying energy to the public, no matter what form it comes in, whether it be biofuel or hydrogen.

The change over isn't really going to affect the oil companies as much as you probably hope it would.

People with an ideaological outlook on life think everything and anything that makes their world more perfect can be done at little cost.

California has also issued rules to force automakers to cut tailpipe emissions from cars and trucks. Enforcement of those rules is being delayed by litigation from automakers.
Sounds like they could have avoided the lawsuit had they just followed the new laws instead of holding it up in court.

Perhaps it's because the law really can't be obeyed due to a lack of technology or because it would cost too much to implement.

It really sounds like California is just looking around for a few more tax dollars.

We know its not the lack of technology and the excuse of it costing too much is ridiculous considering car company profit margins. Theyve got almost 15 years to make the switch. They are stalling in hopes of getting it overturned or lessened which is why they are being sued.

The car companies are the whinners here.
They are the ones that should be getting the clever boo hoo pictures.

It would have to be due to a lack of technology or the cost, because there's no other reason why a company isn't willing to switch to better production methods or better technology knowing that it's good for the consumer.

What is good for the consumer is ultimately good for the bottom line. That's why Toyota can't keep up with the demand for its Prius.

The ladyfolk don't dig men who don't drive. If you don't own a car, they assume you can't afford one (even a cheaper one), and pass you up.

At least that's how it is around here. I'm sure the ladies don't mind in places where even the rich walk everywhere, like New York or Tokyo.

Do you honestly believe the gas companies/oil companies and vehicle companies dont have any deals with each other?
Seriously.... :p

Oh man, California is trying to save the environment. Goddammit, not again.

Stop complaining Jonty. You're just fat.

Only if you believe that one is going to sacrifice itself for the good of the other.

I don't.
