You Must Order Your Philly Cheesesteak In "english"

How come this country has to coddle to other ethnicities, traditions and cultures yet if you visit their country we have to adhere to theirs.

There was a woman who always wore a veil and didn't want to take it off for her driver's license photo. I felt no sympathy for her. If you can't order a cheesesteak, bring someone who speaks English or learn how to point.

Not that it's relevant, but try "30 years".

it is relevant, and it's bull****. it actually started in the early to mid 90's, you see I know this because I WATCHED IT 30 years ago. and no, they did not teach "spanish" perhaps a passing mention every month or so, yet in mexico, we had a show called "home school for adults" that had a english section 3 times a week, for like half an hour. so, yeah. maybe sesame street in spanish doesn't teahc english, but back in 80's there was at least 3 shows that did.

go figure :rolleyesatyou:

The people who's ignorance and laziness regularly makes my life harder can speak, read and write Spanish just fine. They've been cleaning here for 5 years, and still I'm the one who's expected to try and understand and speak Spanish. They won't even say "Thank You". They say "Gracias", and they have no idea of how to say "one" or "two" or "three". They're grown women who've lived here for at least 5 years and they have to call their bi-lingual boss to be a go-between for the simplest of questions or statements.
I am the only one that steps up with some meager knowledge of Spanish. They do not at all. Sorry, that's inexcusable.
I'm trying to imagine myself moving to Mexico, living there for 5 years, and not being able to speak word one of Spanish.
Don't you think that'd be obnoxious of me??

first of all, I might be off in saying that your bad personal experience does not equate the attitudes and behaviour of all illegal immigrants (and if you're not, you seem to be basing your opinions solely on that), to even think so for a second would equate you with the religious zealots you have shown such contempt for in past threads.
and as far as not learning spanish, I have several neighbours, older fellows, most of them living here for the past 10 years, and guess what they don't know spanish, and we all do our best around here to communicate with them. I really don't think anyone, from the convenience store owner to the dry cleaner has a problem with them. I least, I have yet to see any signs about "ordering in spanish" perhaps we're not as dainty as some other people.
see, I don't think theiy're obnoxious, I don't care really, here in mexico, we don't really give a crap about "coddling" people, chinese immigrants are insular and can barely communicate in spanish, yet no one stops going to their awesome chinese food places, and we don't command they speak "our national language" with such "zest" as you guys. once again, go figure

Can YOU read English?
I said very clearly that I agree. You accused Geno's of antagonism via the sign, and I pointed out that the stubborn willful ignorance/laziness of many immigrants also antagonizes the natives, or else WHY WOULD HE'VE MADE THE SIGN?
It was because he got fed up with their arrogance, expecting him to learn their language, but not meeting him half-way.

Why do you keep saying "Don't fool yourself, that's what it's about." as if you've made some victory, when I already said, "Yep, that's what it's about."

ha, really?

oh will. you're smarter than this. you really are.
this is not about Joe or Geno feeling antagonized.

how exactly is he being antagonized anyway? when I worked in my dad's store ( abeaty supply store) here in TJ I routinely, every single ****ing day, had people come up to me and ask "you speak english?" I in NO WAY felt antagonized. why should I? what would make me so insecure that a simple diffenrence in laguage would even remotely make me uncomfortable?
and If I hadn't known english, I simply would've smiled and said "no....sorrie":)
what the ****? what an I on crazy pills?
for someone who keeps asking immigrants to grow some nads you're quick to side with some fat midlle class hal-italian when he "lashes out" against some poor illegal immigrants. becuase they're spanish speaking makes him "fell icky"

oh puhleeeeeeeeeeese. I'd be asking him to grow some nads. I mean, HE MAKES MONEY FROM IT!
idiot he is anyway "youz guys money is no good to me untill youz speaks english...."

ha, "it ith to laugh"

that makes no sense to me though. guess I'm weird like that.

and uh...about the whole "victory" thing, you called my post "non-point making" yet late aknowledge I had a point? and that you agreed with this point. good on ya. cuz you have managed to confuse me. your zen mastery of the word has made a child me, I crumble in your presence.

*crumbles*

I still chuckle at your use of "arrogance" stop hanging round jonty man, it';s rubbing off.
