It’s been four years since he helped Adol out of a crisis on an adventure in the ancient kingdom of Ys, and the two have traveled together all over the world. Lombardia Passenger Liner

Ys-VIII_04-01-16_004.jpg

The large passenger liner commanded by Captain Barbaros.
The largest grade passenger ship that has a total length of 50 merai (Editor’s Note: Is this a unit of measurement in the Ys world?), four giant masts, and is en route from Xandria towards the continent of Eresia. With a large hall for parties on-board and first-class guest rooms for the wealthy, the Lombardia is also used by the upper class as a means of crossing continents.

■ System

The story of Ys VIII begins aboard the extravegant Lombardia passenger liner.

In Ys VIII, the process leading up to Adol becoming shipwrecked on the Isle of Seiren, which becomes the setting of the game, is depicted thoroughly through his voyage on the Lombardia passenger liner.

To earn the traveling expenses of a new adventure, Adol works as a sailor aboard the ship. Dogi, Adol’s partner, also works aboard the ship as a laborer in charge of the physical labor. During the voyage, you’ll control sailor Adol and patrol the guest rooms working as ship security.

Little Paro is a moody parrot that acts as a messenger.

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots detailing parrot character Little Paro and the Drifting Village that players will develop and expand as their base.

Get the information below.
■ Sub-Characters

Little Paro (voiced by Naoki Tatsuta)

“I have lots to tell. So hand over the food.”

Ys-VIII_04-07-16_001.jpg

A moody parrot discovered by Captain Barbaros on the Isle of Seiren.

He is taught the how to talk and while his language is broken, he makes the best of his ability to learn immediately and serves as a messenger between the people of the Drifting Village and Adol and company as they explore the island. Because of the way the castaways talk, he’s learning lots of strange vocabulary.

■ Keywords

Drifting Village

The Drifting Village is a place created by the castaways of the Isle of Seiren that takes advantage of the island’s natural terrain and wisdom. Under the leadership of Captain Barbaros and Dogi, with driftwood that washed ashore the beach and materials obtained on the island, houses necessary for daily living and defense equipment required to defend from monster attacks, as well as facilities that will help Adol as he explores the island are gradually built.

Ys-VIII_04-07-16_002.jpg

Drifting Village Before Development.

Ys-VIII_04-07-16_003.jpg

Drifting Village After Development.

■ System

[1] Development of the Drifting Village: Rescued Castaways Add to the Base’s Strength

Ys-VIII_04-07-16_004.jpg

While Adol explores the Isle of Seiren, which is the setting of Ys VIII, a base for the other castaways that wash ashore the island called the “Drifting Village” will be built.

In its initial stage, the nothing exists in the Drifting Village surrounded by rocks. However, with Captain Barbaros and Dogi at its core, a variety of equipment essential to daily living, such as bedrooms and bedrooms, will be built, and the village’s appearance will continue to change dramatically.
Additionally, as you discover castaways on the island, you’ll take them back to the Drifting Village and its number of inhabitants will increase.

Each castaway has their own special skills and knowledge, and their joining the village expands functionality. This triggers various changes in the Drifting Village, including special events.

Ys-VIII_04-07-16_005.jpg

When the Drifting Village’s farm is completed, you can plant crops. The harvest will be available as food supply for the castaways.

You can also talk to your party members in the Drifting Village, including Laxia, Sahad, and others who accompany Adol.

Ys-VIII_04-07-16_006.jpg

Depending on what happens during your exploration of the island, the contents of the conversations with your party members will change. In addition to that, you may sometimes see a surprising side that goes against Adol…

[2] Support Event: Gather Up Castaways and Develop a New Exploration Route
Ys-VIII_04-07-16_007.jpg

A variety of obstacles that block Adol and company’s path exist on the Isle of Seiren, including huge fallen trees and rocks.

Although it’s impossible for Adol and his party members to break through these obstacles alone, by rescuing castaways and increasing the amount of inhabitants in the Drifting Village, “Support Events” will occur. Using their power, Adol can remove these obstacles and develop a new exploration route.

—Example: Dogi helps remove a fallen tree.

Ys-VIII_04-07-16_008.jpg

A huge fallen tree blocks the path leading to a sandy beach. Adol, Laxia, and Sahad cannot move the tree, but by enlisting the strength of Dogi of the Drifting Village, players can remove the fallen trees and proceed to the sandy beach.
Little Paro also helps.

When a new route is unlocked via a Support Event, the messenger parrot Little Paro flies around the area and will tell Adol and company about the location.

Ys-VIII_04-07-16_009.jpg

The event points in the area will be automatically put on the map when you receive the information from Little Paro, which will be a big help when you start exploring the new area.

Get the information below.
■ Characters

Olga (voiced by Yui Kano)

“Good grief… how can you come up with something so mischievous?”
Ys-VIII_04-14-16_002.jpg

A friend of Dana’s who spent her childhood with her.
She is a hard working type who is strict with both herself and others. Although she often admonishes Dana, who one way or another causes problems, she has recognized her unique talents of wealth of imagination and solid resolution since childhood.

Although Dana’s way of thinking and living is quite different than her own, she cannot get over how dangerous it might be for Dana and worries about her welfare.

She is cheerful and gentle, has a friendly personality, and doesn’t discriminate against anyone.

Sarai is a conservative type who doesn’t take action of her own accord, but can sometimes unleash sharp remarks on Olga.

PS Vita, PlayStation 4Ys VIII details Cathleen and Aaron, new facilities
Published 42 mins ago. 5 comments.

Latest characters set up Blacksmithery and Industrial Arts Shop.

Ys-VIII_04-21-16_Top.jpg

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots detailing characters Cathleen and Aaron, castaways with specific skills who will further the development of the Drifting Village by opening new facilities.

Both were first introduced in Dengeki PlayStation earlier this month.

Get the information below.
■ Characters

Cathleen (voiced by Sayaka Hirao)

“You redheaded punk… you couldn’t possibly demonstrate sufficient power with a blunt blade like that.”

Ys-VIII_04-21-16_001.jpg

A female blacksmith worker with a frigid and sharp discerning personality.

Her grandfather’s name is known as a skilled craftsman in the Romun Empire, and she herself watched her grandfather from behind, inspiring her to become a blacksmith since she was young.

As a craftswoman, Cathleen’s skills are certain, and limited to the facilities and resources of the Drifting Village, she single-handedly takes up the job of making weapons and armor for Adol and his party.

Aaron (voiced by Eiji Takemoto)

“Are you guys Lombardia passengers? All of you look familiar.”

Ys-VIII_04-21-16_002.jpg

A member of the Romun Empire Imperial Military Police with a scary face and military temperament.

His home country sends him aboard the Lombardia Passenger Liner in pursuit of a perpetrator of a violent crime, but got rolled up in the shipwreck accident and was washed ashore by himself on the southern part of The Isle of Seiren.
Contrary to what you might expect from his large build, he is good with his hands, and will lend his power to the construction of village facilities and creations of tools for the sake of the other castaways.

■ System: Expanding the Drifting Village’s Facilities

During your exploration of The Isle of Seiren, you’ll rescue castaways with specific skills, like Cathleen and Aaron, who will establish facilities like the “Blacksmithery” and “Industrial Arts Shop” in the Drifting Village, which you can use to create new weapon enhancements and accessories.

Blacksmithery (Cathleen)

Ys-VIII_04-21-16_003.jpg

A weapon shop does not exist on the unpopulated Isle of Seiren, but if Cathleen constructs a Blacksmithery, you can “strengthen” and “drill” the weapons you own by bringing her specific materials, as well as create armor.

[Strengthening]

Raises the performance of a weapon you own and can further increase its attack power.

[Drilling]

By combining together specific materials with a weapon you own, you can create a powerful new weapon. (After drilling, the newly created weapon is automatically changed in your equipment. Drilling also changes the weapon’s name.)
Ys-VIII_04-21-16_004.jpg

[Armor Creation]

Similar to strengthening and drilling, you can create armor for each character by bringing Cathleen specific materials.

Industrial Arts Shop (Aaron)

Ys-VIII_04-21-16_005.jpg

After linking up with Military Police member Aaron, and after you advance the story some degree, he will establish an Industrial Arts Shop.

In the Industrial Arts Shop, different from Cathleen’s Blacksmithery, you can request Aaron create “Arm Armor” and “Accessories” that offer various stat boosts and special abilities.

Additionally, as Aaron is skilled with his hands, he as a special skill known as “Item Disassembly,” which lets him disassemble the items you bring him, such as equipment you no longer need, so you can reuse them as materials.

■ System: Exploring The Isle of Seiren
Location Point
Ys-VIII_04-21-16_006.jpg

When you reach areas with terrain that stands out or superb views during your exploration of The Isle of Seiren, the site will automatically register on the map as a “Location Point.”

Ys-VIII_04-21-16_007.jpg
Since the terrain around the discovered Location Point is automatically added to the map, you’ll be able to proceed with your exploration of the island more efficiently starting from the Location Point.

Ys VIII introduces Kilgore, Kahran, Alison, more

Published 33 mins ago. 3 comments.
New details and images from Dengeki PlayStation.

The latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation has new details on Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, introducing new castaways, facilities, and systems.
Get the information below.
■ Characters

Kilgore (voiced by Daisuke Kishio)

32 years old. A private clinician from the Romun Empire. He handles medicine compounding in the Drifting Village Clinic, and is its only doctor. He can make recovery items if you give him empty bottles and materials.

Kahran (voiced by Naoki Tatsuta)

52 years old. A noble from the Romun Empire. He’s an always domineering seed of trouble. He’s isolated from everyone around him, but still has a role in the story.

Alison (voiced by Yuki Nagaku)

23 years old. A sickly tailor who gets wrapped up in the shipwreck together with her husband. She is a powerless woman from the Greek area who relies on Adol to be reunited with her husband.

■ System

Counter-Attack Battles

As you advance the story, the Drifting Village will be attacked by the island’s beasts. While Adol can participate in these Counter-Attack Battles, it’s also possible to leave them in the hands of the villagers. During these fights, players must protect the village walls from being torn down. Outside of Adol, the beasts also must deal with a group led by Dogi that fights in special cases.

Practice Battles

Once you clear a Counter-Attack Battle, you can play it again and earn rewards based on your rank.

Drifting Village Facility Expansion

 • Medical Clinic – Constructed when you rescue Kilgore. In addition to treating castaways, it is also a place where medicine is compounded.
 • Tailor – Constructed when you rescue Alison. It is used for attire-related activities.
 • Defense Facilities – You can use the materials you obtain on the island to fortify the Drifting Village’s defenses.
Skill Training

By doing one-on-one battle and winning against a great ape known as “Master Kong,” a highly intelligent beast of the Isle of Seiren who refers to your island-born party member Ricotta as “mother,” you can learn new skills. Generally each character can only learn one skill from Master Kong, but out of all the skills, these are on the pretty advanced side. The first time, a quest will show you Master Kong’s location, and if you have a “Ripe Mango” item, you can train with him. Starting from the second time you have to rely on hints to find him, and if defeat him with each character, it triggers an event.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is due out for PS Vita in Japan on July 21 and for PlayStation 4 in 2017.
Thanks, Dengeki Online and Sokuho@Hokanko.

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots detailing Master Kong, a great monkey character you can battle to acquire powerful skills, who was first introduced in Dengeki PlayStation earlier this month.

■ Characters

Master Kong (Osu)

“Uho, uhoho.”
Ys-VIII_04-28-16_001.jpg

A great monkey “master” with a body of hardened steel who taught a young Ricotta the way of battle and how to hunt beasts.

Although he cannot speak human language, his intellect is on the same level as a human, and he can also freely communicate with Ricotta.

He is very prideful, and is superhumanly picky about manners, but if you bring him his favorite food, ripe mangos, he’ll train Adol and company as a thank-you.

■ System (Master Kong Battle)

Battle Ricotta’s Master and Get a Powerful Skill Attack!

Ys-VIII_04-28-16_002.jpg
By searching for Master Kong, the master who taught Ricotta, the girl of the Isle of Seiren, how to fight, and presenting him his favorite food, a ripe mango, as a present, the player character can challenge him in a one-on-one battle.
Master Kong is very powerful, and is a formidable foe with high offensive and defensive power, but if you manage to win the battle, you’ll be able to acquire a powerful dedicated skill attack for each character.

■ Characters

Kilgore (voiced by Daisuke Kishio)
“The Isle of Seiren… I don’t expect that the castaways’ survival on this island will be easy.”

Ys-VIII_05-06-16_001.jpg

32 years-old. A gentle and polite clinician rich in knowledge and experience. He is unfazed even in unforeseen circumstances, has calm judgment, and after drifting ashore, treated the injured Kahran while wandering about The Isle of Seiren looking for other people.

He opens a small clinic in the Drifting Village. In addition to providing medical examinations for the castaways using of his knowledge and skills in medicine, he’ll also become reliable in formulating medicine for Adol and his party members.

52 years-old. An arrogant, always domineering noble from the Romun Empire. He is a selfish hedonist without regard for his position or status, and his arrogant behavior doesn’t change when he drifts ashore The Isle of Seiren, as he makes no attempt to cooperate with the other castaways.

Alison (voiced by Yuki Nagaku)

Ys-VIII_05-06-16_003.jpg

A woman and tailor with a clean and lovely atmosphere about her. She boarded the Lombardia passenger liner with her husband, but worries about him since she was he was separated from her and went missing in the shipwreck.
She joins the drifting village and makes the best use of her abilities to work with the castaways as a tailor, but since she is weak by nature, she cannot cope with the island environment and can sometimes look off color.

■ System

Counter-Attack Battles

As you progress the main story, the beasts of The Isle of Seiren will launch an raid on the Drifting Village, the base of the castaways.

At these times, by making full use of the castaways’ power and the defense equipment you’ve installed in the Drifting Village, you can concentrate your efforts to stand against the beasts in special battles known as a “Counter-Attack Battles.”

Ys-VIII_05-06-16_004.jpg

—(1) A Counter-Attack Battle Breaks Out

While you’re exploring the island, Little Paro will inform you that “beasts have gathered around the Drifting Village.” At this time, by returning to the Drifting Village, you can defend the base from an enemy attack together with the castaways.

Ys-VIII_05-06-16_005.jpg

—(2) The Counter-Attack Battle Begins

A group battle where enemy beasts rush onto your base begins. For the player, it is similar to a standard battle in that you’ll control Adol and the other playable characters while fighting against hordes of enemies approaching the base.
While in standard battles you’ll get a game over if your HP is lessened to 0, in the case of a Counter-Attack Battle, you’ll only fail if the enemy destroys your last line of defense, the “Defense Fortress,” in the depths of the battle area.

Last edited:
In addition to decoys that can disrupt enemy actions in the Counter-Attack Battle area, you can develop and strengthen the Drifting Village to take on Counter-Attack Battles more advantageously.
While Adol and his party are fighting, Dogi will lead his own “Dogi Side” team to protect a different entrance to the Drifting Village. Dogi Side fights automatically and its results are logged as scores for each castaway, which will also affect the stage result after the battle ends.

Ys-VIII_05-06-16_006.jpg
—(3) Counter-Attack Battle Results
After a Counter-Attack Battle ends, you’ll get a score and rank based on the battle results. If your rank is high,

you can earn a variety of bonus items, including super rare materials.

Ys-VIII_05-06-16_007.jpg

—Counter-Attack Battles are Optional

Participation in Counter-Attack Battles are optional. You can choose to leave Drifting Village defense to Dogi Side and continue exploring the island as you would normally, or you can participate in the battles to achieve a high score. It’s all up to the player.

—Replaying a Counter-Attack Battle
After a Counter-Attack Battle ends, you can choose to replay it in the form of an “Pracice Battle” in order to try and obtain a higher rank and score.

—Battle Progress Gauge
During a Counter-Attack Battle, a “Battle Progress Gauge” indicating Adol Side’s “Dominance” in battle is displayed on-screen. Since you’ll recover more HP and SP if the gauge is higher, it is important to win through the waves of battles and maintain Dominance.
—Castaway Support Skills

Outside of party members, castaways also have their own support skills that automatically kick in during Counter-Attack Battles. However, some of the castaways have skills that will cause a disadvantage…

Ys-VIII_05-06-16_008.jpg

Here are a couple of examples:

 • “Ultimate Blow” (Dogi) – Dogi rushes the battle area and deals damage to all enemies with his prideful fist. This also indces a “Break” state that eliminates the enemies’ weakness attribute, allowing all three attack attributes to deal big damage.
 • “Arrogant Confusion” (Lord Kahran) – Causes a panic on the battlefield and gives strength to the enemies attacking the base, increasing their attack power significantly for a certain period of time.
—Strengthening the Drifting Village
In addition to creating weapons, armor, and accessories, you can use the materials you obtain on the island to strengthen the Drifting Village’s defense equipment.
By increasing the stamina of your “Defense Fortress” (your final line of defense), installing “Slingshots” to damage incoming enemies, and so on, you can take on Counter-Attack Battles more advantageously.

18 years old. A reckless and cheerful young trader girl.
She was aboard the Lombardia Passenger Liner headed towards an important business discussion, but was unluckily involved in the shipwreck accident and washed ashore the Isle of Seiren.

Instead of just being depressed about her business negotiations going down the train, she works frantically to regain her earnings, making the best use of her business abilities to manage the bases’s materials and starts a business on the unpopulated island as a trade dealer.
By rescuing Dina, a “Trading Post” will open in the Drifting Village. At the Trading Post, you can exchange the materials you have on hand to obtain even rarer and more superior materials.

Drifting Village Quests

Ys-VIII_05-13-16_003.jpg

In the Drifting Village, where the castaways you rescued are gathered, a bulletin board is set up where the Lombardia’s captain and its castaways put up their troubles as requests, which Adol and his party can take on as quests.
In addition to obtaining rewards by completing the request, if a quest is connected to a certain castaway, there are also cases where the battle potential of a character will be increased during Counter-Attack Battles.
Additionally, quests may result in the construction of new facilities in the Drifting Village, as well as changes in the residential area.
There are also quests that activate by rescuing a specific castaway.

Laxia, so that she can live with peace of mind in the Drifting Village, puts in a request that a curtain be put up within the cave.
By hearing out the opinion of the tailor Alison, Adol finds that she can make a curtain if she had some soft, fibrous material and goes in search of a “soft quality fiber” material.
—[Quest Example #2: Eggs Delivery]

Ys-VIII_05-13-16_005.jpg

Hummel comes across a huge egg that unexpectedly washes ashore the beach of the Drifting Village.
Thinking that the egg might something of the Ancient’s that poses a threat to the castaways, Hummel attempts to return the egg to its original location, and requests Adol’s cooperation in climbing the “Great Stone Pillar Wind Cave,” but…

Ys VIII details Shoebill, fishing

Published 7 mins ago. 5 comments.

Catch fish and give them to Shoebill.

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots detailing a silent Shoebill who lives in the Drifting Village that acts as the player’s base, as well as the game’s fishing system.
Get the information below.
■ Characters
Shoebill (Female)
“Gua….”

Ys-VIII_05-19-16_001.jpg

A silent bird who remains still like a statue who moves in on the village the castaways began living in before they know it.
She protects the young Ricotta from beastly attacks, raising her as her own child. She taught Ricotta how to survive on the island. Ricotta is close with her and calls her “Mother.”

Although it hardly ever cries (animal cry), it seems to be of high intelligence as both she and Ricotta can understand each other’s intentions. Its favorite foods are the fish from the Isle of Seiren’s coastal waters, and she’ll gladly accept the fish Adol catches (seemingly).

■ Fishing

In Ys VIII, players can fish in the Isle of Seiren’s surrounding waters and in the streamlets within the island.
Here’s the rundown:

(1) When at the waterside, press the Up button on the d-pad to enter “Fishing” mode.

Ys-VIII_05-19-16_002.jpg

(2) Use the left analog stick to pick a spot to cast your line, and press the Circle button to cast.

Ys-VIII_05-19-16_003.jpg

(3) Patiently wait for fish to take the bait. The instant it takes the button, hit the Circle button!

Ys-VIII_05-19-16_004.jpg

(4) When the gauge at the top of the screen fills up, you will have successfully caught the fish.

Ys-VIII_05-19-16_005.jpg

Different Fishing Ability Per Character

Ys-VIII_05-19-16_006.jpg

Fishing ability differs greatly per character, and based on which character you use, the types of fish you can catch also changes. Sahad, for example, is a stable fisherman who hardly ever fails.

Laxia, on the other hand—while her ability may be at the lowest level—has a high chance of pulling in rare fish. By fishing with considering each character’s ability, you’ll be able to catch a variety of fish.

Pulling In Big Game

Ys-VIII_05-19-16_007.jpg

If there’s a waterside, you can fish anywhere, but if you fish in places with signs of fish in the water, the chance you’ll pull in big game is increased.

Pulling In Violent Fish

Ys-VIII_05-19-16_008.jpg

On rare occasions when fishing, there is a chance you’ll pull in a hostile aquatic monster known as a “Violent Fish.” In these cases, you’ll jump straight into battle. Some of these Violent Fish will have high levels.

Giving Fish to Shoebill

Ys-VIII_05-19-16_009.jpg

You can give the fish you catch to Shoebill in the Drifting Village as a present. You can give Shoebill all types of fish, but if she’s satisfied with the fish you give her, she may give Adol and company a happy surprise to show her gratitude.

Ys VIII details Reya, Miralda, and Extra Skills
Published 18 hours ago. 27 comments.

Meet the latest inhabitants of the Drifting Village.

Ys-VIII_06-27-16_Top.jpg

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots detailing characters Reya and Miralda, two new castaways joining the Drifting Village on the Isle of Seiren, and Adol and Dana’s “Extra Skill” abilities.

Get the information below.
■ Characters

Reya (voiced by Hidemi Anzai)

Ys-VIII_06-27-16_001.jpg

11 years old. A mischivous boy with a slightly precocious manner of speaking, who’s heir to the wealthy Dior family of Greek. Sticking close to his father, he crossed the waters to Xandria, but decided upon an earlier return to Eresia, and was thus aboard the Lombardy passenger liner alone. Immediately after the ship sank, he clung for dear life onto the livestock of Pikkards in the ship’s hold before arriving on the Isle of Seiren. In the Drifting Village, he is forced by Dogi as in charge of tending to the crops and taking care of the Pikkards.

Miralda (voiced by Karina Tanaka)
“Cooking, cleaning, laundry—if it’s housework, you can leave it to me, the housewife.”

Ys-VIII_06-27-16_002.jpg

32 years old. A bright and positive housewife from the Greek area who helps her husband run his restaurant. She is a young-looking, beautiful woman, but contrary to her appearance, she has six children waiting for her return. She excels in all household matters, and after drifting ashore began her survival life alone with her favorite kitchen knife in hand. After meeting her, she uses her cooking ability, creativity, and precious ingredients to satisfy the stomachs of the castways living in the Drifting Village.

■ Extra Skills

During battle, landing standard attacks will accumulate your “Extra Gauge,” which allows players to trigger the “Extra Skill” possessed by each character. These are fierce, hidden abilities—attacks of superior intensity and wider range—but since your Extra Gauge is reduced to zero after use, deciding when to use it is an important factor.

Adol’s Exclusive Extra Skill: “Excalibur”

Ys-VIII_06-27-16_003.jpg

Adol’s strongest skill that calls for all of his power, in which his sword is cloaked with an aura several times its length, and then used to assault the enemy with a raging attack.

Dana’s Exclusive Extra Skill: “Gleaming Ice Sword Dance”
Ys-VIII_06-27-16_004.jpg

A rotation attack where Dana uses her half-moon sword to annihilate the surrounding enemies. From there, huge icicles formed in mid-air and aimed at surrounding enemies above-ground, continously shoot forward to deal great damage.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is due out for PS Vita in Japan on July 21 and for PlayStation 4 in 2017.

Ys VIII details Cashew, boss monsters

Published 57 mins ago. 5 comments.

Plus, Falcom releases second TV spot.

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots detailing Cashew, the latest castaway, some of the boss monsters Adol and company will face on the Isle of Seiren.
Get the information below.
■ Characters

Cashew (voiced by Yukinori Okubata)
“A dependable captain that commands a giant ship—my goal is to be just like Captain Barbaros.”

Ys-VIII_06-02-16_001.jpg

A refreshingly good young man and Lombardia passenger liner sailor who respects Captain Barbaros from the bottom of his heart.

Although it was only for a short period of time, he worked together with Adol and Dogi, who were abord the ship as a temporary sailors, and got to know the existence of “adventurers.”

His age is near that of Adol’s, and during the voyage he looks after his work and cares for him like a brother, but after the ship sinks, his whereabouts become unknown.

■ The Giant Bosses of the Isle of Seiren

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is set on the Isle of Seiren, where youll encounter large creatures and unknown beings known as Ancients. Today, we’ll look at a few of the giant bosses you’ll face.

Clarion, “The Hermit of the Silent Forest”

Ys-VIII_06-02-16_002.jpg

A “huge creature” living in the forest of the Isle of Seiren.
It overwhelms its prey with its long tongue, and can create a shockwave that follows its enemy by flapping the wings on its back. It has several tricky techniques, such as a charge attack it lets out after tempting the enemy into a corner.

When it’s in a pinch its body color will change to blend in with the environment, allowing it to escape the enemy’s field of vision and making him a troublesome opponent not dealt with by ordinary means for Adol and company.

Giasban, “The Ancient Ruler of the Sky”

Ys-VIII_06-02-16_003.jpg

A large “ancient” believed to live at the large cliff edge at the heart of the Isle of Seiren.

It soars the sky freely with its large wings, and can burn its opponents with the disastrous flames it breathes from its mouth.

It can perform direct attacks with both its winged arms and beak, as well as swoop down on and crush its enemy from above, thrust into them with its super speed, and shoot bullets of fire from a long range, making it a formidable foe for Adol and company.

Carveros, “The Guard of the Great Academic Center”
Ys-VIII_06-02-16_004.jpg

A “guardian” who has become one with a giant wall in order to keep intruders at bay.
While it doesn’t move its body, it unleashes a variety of attacks on its enemy until they’re completely destroyed with its extendible head that protrudes from the wall.
On both sides of its head are two guard heads that move around to protect it from any kind of physical attack. They stop intruders in their tracks at a distance with limitless blasts shots and freezing cold beam attacks.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is due out for PS Vita in Japan on July 21 and for PlayStation 4 in 2017.

Falcom President Hopes To Make A PS4 Version Of Ys: The Ark of Napishtim. June 7, 2016 . 6:00am

Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo had a few comments to share about Ys: The Ark of Napishtim, known as Ys VI in Japan, in an interview in this week’s issue of Dengeki PlayStation.

29 comments Read >

Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo had a few comments to share about Ys: The Ark of Napishtim, known as Ys VI in Japan, in an interview in this week’s issue of Dengeki PlayStation. [Thanks, Hachima.]

At the time Falcom made Ys Eternal and Ys II Eternal, the development staff that was in charge of it had a strong feeling of wanting to challenge a completely new title, so that’s when they decided to follow up from Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand with a new main-numbered title in Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim.

According to Kondo, Falcom has experience when it comes to reproducing the worlds of past titles, which we got to see in Ys: The Oath in Felghana and Ys: Memories of Celceta. Kondo says that after its PC release Ys: The Ark of Napishtim has already been ported to other consoles, but it’s already been over 10 years since its 2003 release on PlayStation 2, so he’s been thinking about releasing it on a PlayStation platform in one way or another.

“We don’t have any plans on doing this right away, but if we were to do it, then I think it would be for PlayStation 4,” Kondo shares.

Ys VIII details Uhra, Hidura, Minos, and Nestor

Published 9 mins ago. 4 comments.
Four mysterious characters that appear before Dana.

Ys-VIII_06-10-16_Top.jpg

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots detailing Uhra, Hidura, Minos, and Nestor—four characters that appear before Dana, the game’s second protagonist that appears in Adol’s dreams.

Get the information below.
■ Characters

Uhra
“Dana… I look forward to seeing to what extent you’ll be able to resist.”

Ys-VIII_06-10-16_001.jpg

An unidentified character wrapped in a black robe.
He takes action and gets in contact with Dana in order to complete a certain mission, but whether or not he is hostile is unclear.

Since most of his face is covered by his robe, his expressions cannot be read.

He is an advanced life-form of inhuman existence, and works alongside Hidura, Minos, and Nestor, but their connection to one another and reason for working together is unknown.

Hidura (voiced by Hirohiko Kakegawa)

“I can’t help but sympathize but… there is nothing we can do for you.”

Ys-VIII_06-10-16_002.jpg

An inhuman existence with the appearance of an oceanic creature that works alongside Uhra.

It seems to possess fairly advanced knowledge, and its actions and behavior are always level and calm. It is skilled in making qualified judgments.

It seems to have some sort of advice for Dana, but…
Minos (voiced by Takahiro Fujimoto)
“When you look at them like this, humans are awfully sad creatures.”
Ys-VIII_06-10-16_003.jpg

An inhuman existence with a muscular physique and the appearance of a beast-man.

As his looks imply, he is rough and daring by nature, and he looks somewhat down on humans smaller than himself who lack physical strength.

Similar to Hidura, he appears before Dana with a certain purpose, and begins to talk of a certain story, but…
Nestor (voiced by Chieko Atarashi)

“Arrogant human—why did you wait so long to resist?”

Ys-VIII_06-10-16_004.jpg

An existence that works alongside Hidura and Minos.
Although its appearance is vaguely close to that of a human being, the shape and the form of its limbs are distinctly different, and it dons a unique atmosphere that is difficult to describe.

It approves of rational thinking, but has a dreadful side that will pass seemingly cold judgement without hesitation.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is due out for PS Vita in Japan on July 21 and for PlayStation 4 in 2017.

Ys VIII details shared consciousness, presents, and notes
Published 2 hours ago. 3 comments.

What you do in Dana's world could affect the layout of Adol's.
Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots detailing the shared consciousness of dual protagonists Adol and Dana, Present Events, and T’s Notes and Pirate Notes.
Get the information below.
■ Shared Consciousness
In Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, there are two protagonists: the adventurer Adol and the mysterious girl Dana, whose shared consciousness will let you travel between two worlds.

How It Works

—(1) First, find an embellished floating crystal pillar.

Ys-VIII_06-16-16_001.jpg

—(2) Next, while controlling Adol, interact with the crystal pillar.

Ys-VIII_06-16-16_002.jpg

—(3) Adol and Dana share a single consciousness, and now you’ll be in Dana’s world.

Ys-VIII_06-16-16_003.jpg

—(4) Explore Dana’s world.

Ys-VIII_06-16-16_004.jpg

—(5) When you reach another consciousness share point, you can return to Adol’s world.

Ys-VIII_06-16-16_005.jpg

Does Dana’s actions affect Adol’s story?

The actions Dana takes in her world will have some impact on The Isle of Seiren, which is the setting for Adol’s adventure.

For instance, when you return to Adol’s side, roads that should be impassable can become passable and somehow the terrain of The Isle of Seiren changes. Depending on Dana’s actions, new paths for Adol’s exploration team may even open up.

—A new route appears in Adol’s world.

Ys-VIII_06-16-16_006.jpg

—Off to the new area.

Ys-VIII_06-16-16_007.jpg

■ Present Events

Ys-VIII_06-16-16_008.jpg

In the Drifting Village, which acts as the player’s base on the Isle of Seiren, players can give special items called “Present Items.”

There are various items that can be given based on the personality and tastes of each character, such as a “strong drink” for the drinker Dogi, “soap” for the fastidious Hummel, or “plant seeds” for Little Paro.
By giving presents, you can trigger special events with each of the castaways, as well as increase the player character’s stats and strengthen the castaway characters’ support skills.

■ T’s Notes and Pirate Notes

Ys-VIII_06-16-16_009.jpg

While exploring the island, you’ll come across notes left behind by a mysterious character named “T” who seemingly explored the island in the past, as well as notes from pirates who seemingly disembarked on the island long ago.

Each note you find will only have a fragment of information on it, but at times you’ll obtain information useful to Adol and company’s exploration.
By combining T’s Notes and Pirate Notes and analyzing their contents, you might discover hints that will help you escape the Isle of Seiren.

The Governor-General of Celceta and a man of the arts.

Ys-VIII_06-24-16_Top.jpg

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots detailing castaway characters Griselda and Austin.

Get the information below.
■ Characters

Griselda (voiced by Naomi Ohzora)
“Adol Christin…. so it happens that we meet in a place like this.”

Ys-VIII_06-24-16_001.jpg

A woman of the Romun Empire’s nobility who works as the Governor-General of Celceta. Personality-wise, she is uncompromising and gentle-hearted. Three years prior she recognized potential in adventurer Adol and tasked him with surveying the uncivilized land of Celceta. It seemed like she was still governing Celceta as the Governor-General even after Adol left, so what could she possibly be doing in the Greek area…?

Austin (voiced by Daisuke Kishio)

“A great artist whose name will go down in history—yes, that is who I will be!”

Ys-VIII_06-24-16_002.jpg

Austin is a young noble from Gllia who loves the arts—from paintings to sculptures to playwriting and so on—beyond all else. However, he has no self-confidence when it comes to music. He seems to have a bit of a narcissistic personality, and is convinced that he is a special chose one, different from other people. When Adol and company get surrounded by beasts during their exploration of the Isle of Seiren, he shows up and gallantly dashes to the rescue, but…

Ys-VIII_06-30-16_Top.jpg

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots detailing new characters Sister Nia and Lihit,
and the Endless Threat and sub dungeon gameplay systems.
Get the information below.
■ Characters

Sister Nia (voiced by Yuki Nagaku)

“The master has spoken… ‘Suffering is the greatest blessing.’”

Ys-VIII_06-30-16_001.jpg

A pious nun from the Celestrial (Hoshikiza) Church, the religion of the Romun Empire, who is doing missionary work in Xandria.

She is an exemplary nun with a kind heart, but the abundance of her religious piety is not common, she has a few characteristics that are slightly off.

She believes everything happens according to God’s will. For instance, she perceives the sinking of the boat and the drifter life on The Isle of Seiren as trials given by God.

Lihit (Ryohei Arai)

“Eeek! P-please, I’m begging you, don’t come over here…”

Ys-VIII_06-30-16_002.jpg

A young man with a timid and forlorn attitude. Instead of the doctor who was unable to board the ship due to circumstances, he takes the role of ship doctor, even though he is only a medical student, and has the misfortune of being caught up in the shipwreck accident.

Even though he has a lot of knowledge and discernment, he lacks actual medical experience, so he has no confidence in his skills.

■ System

Endless Threats

Ys-VIII_06-30-16_003.jpg

As you battle to the bitter end in “Counter-Attack Battles” to defend your base in cooperation with the castaways, you’ll be able to take on special Counter-Attack Battles known as “Endless Threats.”

An “Endless Threat” is a super-difficult Counter-Attack Battle where large enemies, such as the huge and powerful Ancients you’ve encountered on The Isle of Seiren, will attack your base one after the other.

You’ll need to have perfectly leveled and equipped your characters, and strengthened your base facilities, but similar to a regular Counter-Attack Battle, you’ll be able to obtain a variety of rewards based on your results if you win.
Sub Dungeons

Ys-VIII_06-30-16_004.jpg

In Ys VIII, there are sub dungeons not connected to the main story scattered all over the Isle of Seiren.

There’s an “Underground Waterway” formed by natural erosion, a “Coastal Cave” once utilized by pirates who embarked on the island long ago, “Big Stone Pillar Airholes” inhabited by strange plankton, and various other places of those types.

While exploring The Isle of Seiren, you may be able to find unexpected items and information by taking on these sub dungeons, and obtain “Adventurer’s Tools” that will help you on your adventure. Depending on the situation, you might even find a missing castaway that went into hiding…

Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo shared the latest on their upcoming action RPG Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana in an interview in this week’s issue of Dengeki PlayStation. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

According to Kondo, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will take about 40 hours of gameplay time for an average play from start to finish. The game will get additional content with a day 1 patch that will add “Boss Time Attack” and “Loading Screen Tips.”

As far as DLC goes, the “Pirates of the Distant Sea” costumes will be available for six characters including Dana which will go for 300 yen each and Attachment Item DLCs for 100 yen each. There will also be other free DLCs on the release date.

Dengeki PlayStation gave it the score of 90/95/90/90, saying that it’s traditional story is one that brings excitement, menu operability is a plus, its map information is very convenient, battles are smooth, dashes are speedy, and the warp is useful.

On the other hand, camera controls might require a little getting used to, the load time for zoning can be long at times, and you don’t really get to see your allies get involved much in fights against small fry monsters, were some of the critical points about the game.
[YT]Uqa9yJA-OAw[/YT]
The above video should give you an idea how the game plays.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will release in Japan on July 21, 2016 for PlayStation Vita. The PlayStation 4 version will release in 2017.
