Cena seems perfectly charming and probably has the right vibe and charisma for some comedy work, but I'm quite happy he didn't land this role.

Let's be honest with ourselves, 90% of the reason people were even saying his name in the first place is because of his build and I wish to God we could move away from the "Body size first, everything else second" mentality. These people can afford f***ing personal trainers and special diets.

The more i think about it the more I like this casting. He's a very likeable and charming dude, and i can definitely see him as a kid in a man's body. Plus having to bulk up is nothing new for this stuff. Look at Chris Reeve, Hugh Jackman, and the 3 MCU Chrises for example. I like it very much.

I'm surprised at some of the reactions against his casting.

The days of an actor just walking off the street and jumping straight into a role like this are long gone. These guys train, get in shape and commit like hell.

Interesting to hear Jake McDorman from Limitless was in the mix as well. McDorman is one of my picks for Hal Jordan.

It's like when I watch Game of Death and I think to myself, "No way can Bruce actually beat Kareem. He's just too small."

Jokes aside, Cena is a genuinely talented guy, but his casting would've turned this into a WWE event. I'm not into that. I'm glad they went with someone removed from that. Levi is gonna kill it.

I'd like to see Cena do something else down the line though.

Cena has barely done anything outside of WWE films. It irks me a bit that The Rock has made the transition so well that people think Cena can be a leading man of a franchise so soon. I guess he made it look easy or something.

Yeah, I am really only basing it on his work in the WWE which is almost like stage acting except for the actual wrestling. But I understand where you guys come from. Many folks struggle to go from live audience stuff to TV/movies. Its going to be one of those what if situations though. None of us will ever know if we were right or wrong about Cena as he is not going to do the role.

Why do people always react the same way to an actor not having the right build when they're FIRST cast.
We've seen it over and over that these actors will get in shape for the characters that they're playing.
He has the height.
He has time to put on muscle.
There will no doubt be a muscle suit.

Cena is horrible, sorry but he just is. He’s fine in comedies and such but he couldn’t carry a film as the lead. Those WWE movies he did were awful and in part because of his horrible performances. Cena could improve sure but he isn’t right for this role. It’s just typical fan cast he looks the part so he’s right without actually considering what the role actually requires. Thank god Sandberg saw sense.

Casting him would have made the eventual Shazam vs Black Adam film into a WWE media circus aswell.

As for the Rock been bigger Levi can put the muscle on. Sure the Rock will be bigger but that’s good, you want the villain to look more menacing.

They're projecting themselves into the situation....they want to be a superhero but don't want to spend the time in the gym, and naturally assume the actors don't either.

Chris Hemsworth was actually pretty slim before Thor. Check him out in Aussie soap opera Home and Away. Hemsworth bulked up for Thor. This isn't the eighties or nineties in which muscle bound leading men were mostly played by guys who could barely act. Most male actors bulk up for superhero movies.

Personally seeing John Cena vs the Rock would just take me out of the movie. I would have a hard time seeing them together without thinking of their wrestling personas and feud.

Like the molded bodysuits that Jackman, Cavill, Pine, Hemsworth and Pratt use right? Oh... No. They got into tremendous shape with the help of the studio.

And I say this as someone that thinks Cena might have been able to pull this off. But Levi is a fine choice and I am sure he's going whole hog on his workouts. A role like this, a possible franchise is the holy grail for many actors in Hollywood. They know the stakes and as we have seen for a long time now they and the studios more often than not go the extra mile to making them look the part.

In regards to Cena (or any other Wrestling / Sports to Actor), it's a whole lot better to get someone who CAN act and get them in a gym than asking someone with the body for the job to be able to raise their performance. Dwayne J is an 'exception to the rule' for me.
