The role that Pink has long been in consideration to take, that of Janis Joplin in Penelope Spheeris's indie biopic, is now going to Zooey Deschanel. Pink was mulling over portraying the singer-songwriter for a couple years as the production resolved financial issues and whatnot but, now that the film is ready to roll, Pink has dropped out either of her own accord, by the wishes of the filmmakers, or simply because she's too tied up in other projects at this point. While she certainly would've been an interesting choice with quite a bit of logic to it, I'm perfectly fine with seeing Deschanel take over since she's proved herself to be a more-than-capable and charismatic actress several times over. One thing's for sure, anything's better than Renee Zellweger (who was considered for a Janis role on a different project). Good God. According to the IMDb, Spheeris's movie is, at least for the time being, called GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JANIS. Shooting on the movie is scheduled to start in November.

Yay! I love me some Zooey Deschanel.
I like she got the part instead of Pink; I'm not a fan of singers trying to act.

I dig Zooey. Thought she would've, and still could, have made a better Lois Lane than Bosworth.

What an understatement. The majority of actresses would have been a better Lois Lane. I preferred Selma Blair.

Look...as much as I love Janis Joplin, she was fugly. They better ugly Zooey up Charlize Theron in Monster style.

Janis Joplin

There's some resemblance in the eyes and mouth. I think make up will do the job.

Zooey is pretty.

Exactly. Janis Joplin wasn't. I wouldn't say she was fugly (that's pretty damn harsh), but she wasn't easy on the eyes, that's for sure.

Coming down from a 10 day high, she was damned frightening.

thank god! i nearly cried when i heard pink was attached! i can totally dig zooey as joplin. cant wait for this film, hope it turns out really good!

She's a real good actress, great in The New Guy or whatever that was called.

She could be a great Janis Joplin. Good to hear about a janis movie, i always liked her. She is one of the greatest female music figures of the century. Her voice was unique.

But, by the way: when a John Lennon movie or a beatles movie?

mister lennon, ever hear of Backbeat? (not that I've seen it).

Anyway, Zooey is fantastic casting. She'll be an excellent Janis.

I love Zooey...but yeah, if they want her to look like Janis, they'll have to Monster-ize her a bit. Not to that extent, of course, but Janis was definitely a star who made it on her talent and not her looks.

zooey and that one guy she ****ed in failure to launch were the only good things about that movie.

that and mathew was kinda hot :o

Yes, in fact , i see it. But it doestn a biographical movie at all. The character doesnt have the behament or lookd like john, same with the actor. Same with the another people. It was a good movie, but far to be a good beatles or john lennon biopic movie. I know that it can be done much more better.
