It's A Wonderful Life: A Wonderful Unexpected Journey

One story per decade since the original film :woot:

Maybe they'll go the lazy route and just call this one "It's A Wonderful Life" again

This news made me sick. A truly repulsive idea all around.

This just sounds and feels like a horrible idea, on so many levels.

A remake I could kind of understand, but a sequel? Really? Yech...

Good luck recreating this magic. Only a fool would direct this sequel. [YT]uAERYfeiYBc[/YT] [YT]O4ne13Zft9Q[/YT] [YT]u56OqFjs1dg[/YT]

I want George Bailey re-imagined as this poor, hard-working Connecticut hedge fund manager who's getting bullied by those meanies at the SEC. :argh:

Wait, what? It's a head-scratcher to say the least.

Then again, people scoffed at the idea of Rocky Balboa when that went into production, and that was well-received. I don't think It's A Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story will be that lucky.

Yeah but Rocky had four sequels before that.

This is only okay if it's set in space. Back to the drawing board. people.

What the heck?? Why make a sequel? The story was about George Bailey and that story has been told. We don't need a sequel to every movie out there.

Oh man, I couldnt stop laughing after reading the proposed title for the sequel.

Perfectly fits how uninspired the movie sounds.

Both James Stewart and Donna Reed are both dead so this is going to be lame if they recast those characters since this is a sequel after all.

good God, Hollywood's getting pretty shameless about being out of fresh ideas, aren't they?

i hate everything about this. unless it's about how Clarence becomes the Angel of Death.

Vince Vaughn is the modern day Jimmy Stewart, the role should obviously go to him.

Also, Clarence should be played by Jackie Chan. In this version there are bad angels trying to stop Clarence from getting his wings, so you need an actor who can do crazy stunts like dive through a Christmas wreath and fight with a pair of over-sized candy canes.

Paramount Would Fight 'Wonderful Life' Sequel

Paramount won't be giving any wings to a planned "It's a Wonderful Life" sequel.

A studio spokeswoman said Wednesday that Paramount would fight the proposed follow-up to the 1946 holiday classic starring Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey, a desperate family man who imagines during Christmas time what his town would be like if he'd never been born.

Star Partners and Hummingbird Productions announced plans Monday to create a sequel to the Frank Capra directed film titled "It's a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story."

Bob Farnsworth, president of Nashville, Tenn.-based Hummingbird Productions, told trade publication Variety that the film was set for release in 2015 and would star Karolyn Grimes, who played Bailey's daughter in the original film.

The filmmakers said the sequel would focus on Bailey's unlikeable grandson. Grimes, who said the iconic line "Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings!" in the original film, would play an angel in the follow-up.

"No project relating to 'It's A Wonderful Life' can proceed without a license from Paramount," the studio said in a statement. "To date, these individuals have not obtained any of the necessary rights, and we would take all appropriate steps to protect those rights."

Farnsworth and Star Partners president Allen J. Schwalb did not immediately return messages seeking comment. Farnsworth previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the property's rights were in the public domain.

While a lapsed copyright led TV stations in the 1970s, '80s and early '90s to repeatedly broadcast "It's a Wonderful Life," Paramount has controlled the rights for the past 14 years, after the studio acquired Republic Pictures as part of its acquisition of Spelling Entertainment in 1999. Paramount has since licensed "It's a Wonderful Life" to NBC, which now airs it sparingly during the holiday season.

Tom Capra, son of "It's a Wonderful Life" director Frank Capra, who died in 1991, said the Capra family does not support a sequel — and they don't think their father would have, either.

"If he was still alive, he would have called it ludicrous," said Tom Capra. "Then, I think we would have called his lawyer. Why would you even attempt to make a sequel to such a classic film?"

Good. It's a silly idea. There's no more story to tell, leave it alone.

Never thought I would say this, but hooray for big Hollywood studios!

Of course, if the movie makers wanted to be major leagues jackasses, they could just buy the rights to the crappy made-in-Canada movie Clarence and make a movie claiming to be the sequel to that POS.

It's a situation I'm split on. On the one hand I think a sequel is a monumentally stupid idea. On the other, copyright lengths are stupidly ridiculous and Paramount should have long ago lost the rights to it.

In the end I'd rather they do a ****** sequel that will bomb and be ignored (hopefully) than allow corporations to further lock-in and abuse the copyright limitations to prevent anyone from recreating or redoing past works.
