Fantasy ‘God of War’ TV Series - Amazon Prime

A flashback episode, maybe 2 would be enough to cover rage monster Kratos. I do think relegating his relationships with Zeus, Athena, and Pandora to a few flashbacks would somewhat diminish his backstory.

But the Greek era is what made Kratos who he is. Without the Greek era, there is no Norse era Kratos. There is no rage monster being held back.

I see what you're saying, but that's not the story they want to tell. They are going more for the Unforgiven angle.

Or a prequel if the show is a success ;)

My best friend never played God of War before 2018. She understood who Kratos the man is fine. That's the benefits of really good writing.

My guess is they do flashbacks to key points. Because as a story? Not much to say.
It’s like the original Star Wars. You’re just dropped right into the middle of things into that universe with a whole bunch of unspoken history. As the story goes along, you get little explanations, hints, and context clues about the world and what it’s about. Was I ever lost? Absolutely not.

You can do the same with Kratos. Just pepper hints of his past throughout the story, either through him telling Atreus or showing flashbacks. Like Darth Skywalker‘s friend, I watched a walk-through of the game with little to no knowledge of the previous games lore, and I grasped pretty much everything very easily.

General audiences will be fine.

I feel like moments like this work, because they don't wallow.

All you need to know is that Kratos was an angry, rage filled killer, who murdered his wife and daughter because he was tricked by the Gods. He then murdered all of them, which also happened to be his family. he's haunted by this. Everything else is a wiki entry.

The thing is, as a game series, we're dropped into Kratos' story sort of at the start of his saga. We see him wage war against Ares, the Gods, and literally bring down Olympus and the entire pantheon itself.

We like the God of War Norse saga because we literally saw all of Kratos' development before are very eyes. We saw a man who, despite all his atrocities, was a father and husband desperate for forgiveness and redemption. So on that level, I can understand wanting to see the Greece saga first.

But the Norse saga is what's out right now, and it's the popular one.
