🇷🇺🇺🇦 Discussion: Relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine

Business Insider - Exclusive: Former top FBI official involved in Trump-Russia investigation under scrutiny by federal prosecutors for his own ties to Russia

A former high-level FBI agent who was involved in the investigation into the Trump campaign's contacts with Russia during the 2016 election has himself come under scrutiny by federal prosecutors for his ties with Russia and other foreign governments.

Late last year, according to internal court documents obtained by Insider, US attorneys secretly convened a grand jury that examined the conduct of Charles McGonigal, the former head of counterintelligence at the FBI field office in New York City. The Justice Department declined to comment on what the grand jury was investigating or whether it remained ongoing. But a witness subpoena obtained by Insider seems to indicate that the government, in part, was looking into McGonigal's business dealings with a top aide to Oleg Deripaska, the billionaire Russian oligarch who was at the center of allegations that Russia colluded with the Trump campaign to interfere in the 2016 election.

Just read that and didn’t realise Mexico were so deep in Putin’s pockets. :csad:
I didn't either. I'm not sure they have a whole lot to offer Russia in this war, though.

Surrendering doesn't save lives, Russians torturing and killing and raping and relocating the domestic population as they go shows that you dangerous imbeciles - a surrender would just give them everybody else to that with. There is no peace with Russia whether you surrender to them or you don't. You can only defeat them like you defeat a cancer.

I think he meant "resistance is futile". We all know how that turned out.

It sounds like they are giving them 10 days of training. Which, ummm, doesn't exactly lead to a credible fighting force. Ukraine gave its recruits time to get properly trained, which is starting to bear fruit.

Russia is just trying to overwhelm Ukraine with bodies, not caring how many of their own die in the process. :(

Yep

Why would any leader with a back bone surrender their nation and leave the population to the mercy of a foreign army. Putin was counting on Zelensky fleeing. The fact Zelensky stayed and rallied his people and the wider world against the Russian invasion is why a independent Ukraine still existence and hasn't just been folded into Russia.

That's the red army in a nutshell for over a century. Swarming their enemy is the go to tactic of the Russian military. The life of Russians means very little to their rulers and they are all too happy to sacrifice every Russian man, woman and child so those at the top can gain more power.

Russia is about to hold sham "referendums" in Donetsk and Luhansk:

And Putin is expected to give a speech later today, probably announcing mass mobilisation and a formal declaration of war:

Does he have enough military might to win this war? I'm thinking not.......

Yeah, 300k is a big number. But the main question is what is he equipping them with? They've had logistical issues already. How is he going to supply a larger army on the march?
