🇷🇺🇺🇦 Discussion: Relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine

Love seeing Putin’s fleet decimated. :D

At this point i dont get why people let Putin fear monger.
Dude needs to get weapons from North Korea, has to throw old bombs and fight with cheap Drones.
His oh so great Sea fleet is getting crippled...and he still cant take a significant smaller country.
And people still act like Russia needs to be feared.

Incomplete.

1) The "great" sea fleet is indeed severely damaged. I don't recall claims that Russia was a naval superpower. Large above-water vessels are obsolete regardless, were just seeing it in Sebastopol first. Notice that the US Navy is losing its battle off the coast of Yemen.

2) There's nothing wrong with buying weapons from North Korea unless you're a racist. And even then Europe buys weapons from South Korea. They're both technologically advanced countries. North Korea, for example, has better hypersonic missiles technology than all of NATO.

3) Yes, they use old bombs, cheap drones, bullets, artillery shells, and land mines. It's not ideal for a country to prioritize overpriced fancy weapons, see the Nazis in WW2. They built the best weapons at the time. Much better weapons than the Americans and Soviets. But they couldn't build them in large numbers, they couldn't get enough replacement parts to the front lines, etc.

Admiral Karl Donnitz gave that warning to Hitler, who didn't listen to him. When he died in his bunker, he must have realized his mistake, as he named Donnitz his successor.

At the same time, you shouldn't trivialize hypersonic missiles, tornado launchers, jamming technology, etc.

4) Ukraine had (and may still have) the strongest NATO army in Europe, and they've been heavily armed and rearmed and remanned by NATO equipment and mercenaries.

5) You're dismissing the Russian national interest, which is to defeat NATO as slowly as possible. A slow boil approach works better.

6) It's true that there's nothing to fear as Russia obviously has no interest in invading Poland and Czhechia. There'd be no point. Those people are not Russians. East Ukrainians are Russians.

I wish Ukraine wasn't depending on the US to win because we suck. :(

That wouldn't work as the protection would only apply for one vote at one moment in time.

Johnson is leading a divided party and he presumably wants to see it move forward rather than govern by the seat of his pants one day at a time, Paul Ryan style.

Holy War? Really? What could be more stupid?

Well, you know how brainwashed american conservatives are? Thats this pretty much.
Only a bit harder because the influence of the church in Russia is bigger so there is more Control over the people.
Its dumb Yeah, maybe dumber than the whole "Ukraine has super soldiers" thing even.

There is only the slimmest of chances that repubs maintain control of the house after November. There is more than enough support in the house to pass Ukrainian aid and I think Christian porn leader Johnson (and I don't care if someone wants to watch porn, but I hate hypocrisy) knows the aid bill will be brought. The question is whether or not he remains speaker for the rest of his term. I won't pretend to know what he thinks, but I think aid will pass and the only question is how it passes under his, alleged, "leadership".

I mean, as long as Johnson doesn't renege on his deals he makes with Dems like McCarthy did with the debt ceiling deal. The margins are slim enough that he cannot piss off the Dems. And House Dems know the position they are in, they will extract what they can get, knowing what can be passed with the sane portion of the house.

I do say, that the Pedo Rule (aka Hastert Rule) really is dependent on the size of your majority.

M. K. Bhadrakumar on the Moscow attacks.

Second, a storyline has been propagated by Washington that this was an ISIS attack. Indeed, it has been effectively propagated by the western media and was intended as a red herring to confuse dumb-witted folks abroad.

However, in reality, the perpetrators did not behave like ISIS killers on suicide missions who would have sought martyrdom but in this case behaved like fugitives on the run. Nor were they answering the call of ‘jihad’. They were reportedly ethnic Tajiks who admitted that they were hirelings lured by the money in it.

The expert opinion from released videos is also that their movements inside the mall did not show battle skills attributed to well-trained fighters, and they had ‘poor muzzle discipline’, which means they had only minimal rifle training. In sum, theirs was quintessentially an act of motiveless malignity — that is, except the money part.

Ugh, Hastert. The pedo rule is anti-democratic, clearly. They should get rid of it.

I think it's bad strategy for Johnson to piss off the nascent wing of his party. The Bush/Cheney wing is insane in their own way, and is dying off.

Admittedly, I do think that giving more weapons to Ukraine and Israel will just lead to more deaths.

Looking at these guys, you realize that American Republicans really arent that far away from this.
The kind of absolutely bonkers nonsense they feed their audience, is wild.
I like to remind people that at the start of the War, the Russian narrative included Bio Weapons and Ukraine Super Soldiers.
Like, literally Comic Book Super Soldiers.
Soldiers enhanced with computer chips, serums etc...that is the kind of nonsense people like that tried to sell the Russian people.
Its utterly insane.

1) The Bioweapons research labs have been acknowledged by the then US deputy secretary of state, Victoria Nuland.

2) "Super soldiers" goes back to the second world war at the latest. The Nazis gave their soldiers drugs when they invaded France (I think amphetamines), to keep them up for three days. It worked and this is nothing new.

I recommend reading more media from the global majority / non-white countries. But I'm giving you a link from c-span here.

And no, Russia isn't invading Alaska.

The fact that this is being thrown out there without repercussions, media being "told" not to refer to the Ukraine war as a "war", while people are being arrested for not wanting a war.....errrr......excuse me a "special military operation" in Ukraine, tells you what you need to know about the politics in Russia. I felt much more at ease going down to the federal building in Westwood and protesting the Iraq war; along with other non-violent labor/social issue protests than I would in Russia. Yes, I and people I was with were arrested for trespassing, but we weren't beaten or imprisoned (other than for processing).

While the US has had its share of abusing protesters, this is nothing like what's going on in Russia. The media isn't being told what they can and can't print and you can get all different perspectives on the "War". Hell, you can even call it a "special military operation" without getting shut down.....at least until the inauguration next year.
