Because they do it correctly and don't let up. We only do it on our days off and treat it like it's a picnic. Americans are fat, lazy and weak. It's why we deserve Trump.

I was surprised by this. She gave quite a long and detailed speech about how she had listened and taken on board all this feedback.

Presumably when they say this extradition bill is dead, it also applies to Taiwan as well, and not just Hong Kong? But then what happens in cases like that man who went from mainland China to Taiwan to kill his wife, which is how this whole extradition bill got started in the first place?

It isn't truly dead. Still a good result though.

While her language Tuesday was stronger, Lam's position on the bill has not shifted since last month. After the bill was suspended, it was always going to die when the current parliament expires in summer 2020, along with all other outstanding legislation.

Protests are demanding an immediate and full withdrawal, guaranteeing that lawmakers couldn't restart debates and rush the bill through to a vote.

Lam's failure to announce that withdrawal Tuesday is unlikely to stop the mass marches that have disrupted the city in recent weeks.

And unlike in the U.S., there is no real counter protest group who wants this to go ahead. There are people in the U.S. who are for everything other people protest against.

Young people in Hong Kong don't want their future hijacked by their parents and grandparents. And these are the same parents and grandparents who went through China's social upheavals.

Is it a good result or a tactical result, given that they could resume the bill at a later stage?

At the very least it delays any progress on it for another year.

In the meantime, if mainland China are gradually broadcasting all the news in Mandarin when the majority of people in Hong Kong speak Cantonese, how will they even know what's going on and if the bill is being resumed? Developments could creep up on them without their knowledge, which is exactly what the PRC want to happen.

Also, while the US want to put up a wall, China wants to tear down a wall (ie the border between China and Hong Kong).

I can't even begin to say how frustrating it is for us here in the Philippines, that our president is just letting China strong-arm itself into our territories (not to mention damage marine life in the process). Duterte and his allies keep on raising the spectre of war (and avoiding it), as if war is the only option out of this situation.

Indeed. The sad thing is that people fall for the excuse. Trolls even go further and blame the previous administration for neglect when the fact is they were responsible for delivering a knockout victory from the Hague Tribunal. Duterte talks tough but is a ***** when push comes to shove.

True. This isn't an isolated case though. It is reported that big name actors from the mainland are also towing the message from the government. The mainland government is despicable as **** and would leverage anything or anyone to get their propaganda across.
