10 Reasons Why You Should Eat Less Meat:

I've never seen one before just the other day. I guess they don't have 'em in New England (they don't have Checkers, Hardees, Jack-in-the-box, or Sonic either), but I'm definitely going to enjoy having them around while I'm at school. :D

Ah ha. I retract my statement, then. They're all over the VA, DE, MD area, that's all I know for sure :oldrazz: So yummy.

I ate at Texas Roadhouse the other day. I got an 8-ounce sirloin smothered with cheese and mushrooms, and it was amazingly delicious. I got so filled up on just the appetizers though that I was only able to finish about half of my actual entree (I was fine with having the leftovers for lunch the next day, though). I tell you though... Those cactus blossoms / bloomin' onions produce enough gas to run a Hummer.

They make great steaks. They have Texas Roadhouses in VA???

They're fried balls of jalapeno and cheeses *drools*

Ohhhh...lol. I thought it was real rattlesnake. I think I've tried something like that once, didn't much care for it but I'm not big on whole jalapeno's. lol.

WTF old thread resurrection! :funny:

Yeah well...burgers are yummy and you only live once. (There goes that paleo diet fad, eh? :hehe: ) I agree that steak is overrated, though. Chicken is cheap and dark meat is especially cheap cause Americans for some reason don't like dark meat...

I thought for sure it would've been Willard who'd bump this thread in a fit of rage.

Willard? Who is Willard? The guy enjoys chilling with rats? Burgers are made from pink slime. Yuck! lol

If you eat at fast food restaurants, then yes. But making hamburgers with ground beef is not pink slime.

How do vegetarians get lean protein if you don't eat meat? I know nuts have a lot of protein, but you can only eat so much of that. And I believe soy has a lot, but men shouldn't eat that.

I can't even fathom a life without eating me, it just seems absurd and boring. GIVE ME BACON!!! :cmad:

But I don't want to die an early death... huh.

An early death from what? Eating red meat every once in awhile?
I know plenty of vegetarians who are fat or have trouble losing or maintaining weight because they don't put things in their body that they need. Many of them have low iron levels because they don't eat anything with it.

Who knew cannibalism could get even creepier?

HAHAHA! Totally thought I put meat. Probably erased the "at" part when I was editing it.

I can't even become a vegetarian. I'm allergic to nickel, and many vegetables are high in nickel.
Here's the list: "Beans, lentils, peas, soy products (tofu, soy sauce, soy beans) sprouts, brussel sprouts, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, canned vegetables, red kidney beans, chickpeas, cabbage, corn, mushrooms, onions, carrots"

Should't eat nuts, any seafood, chocolate, tea, or anything canned.

So yeah, not even an option for me.

Oh and just found this:
"WAYS TO PREVENT YOUR BODY FROM ABSORBING THE NICKEL YOU EAT

Take a vitamin C supplement with each meal.

Eat a high iron diet"

Eating red meat isn't gonna kill you when you're young, and not when you have it in moderation.

What'll kill you when you're young is stuff like reckless driving or not knowing your alcohol limit. :o Stupid stuff, basically. So don't do stupid stuff.

And ya know, you might die young anyway through no fault of your own. So don't do harmful things to yourself, but at the same time, you can't worry too much. You cannot prevent cancer 100%. Sometimes you're just unlucky. This is coming from someone who actually works in cancer research. :cwink: We scientists still enjoy a hot dog every now and again. My boss noted the irony of a venti Starbucks drink on the desk of a scientist who studies the effect of caffeine on tumors. (The scientist was like, "Yeah, I know..." :funny: )

In fact, scientist Marie Curie handled radioactive substances all her life without shielding (people didn't know how dangerous radiation was back then, they just knew it glowed and thus was awesome) and died in her 60's. Yes, it was from a disease caused by radiation exposure, but she didn't die in her 30's riddled with tumors or anything. Getting cancer in your 60s is not that uncommon even nowadays. So a lot of it is overblown. Still, if we know about the imminent dangers of something, we should take necessary precautions to protect ourselves.

Red meat has a lot less imminent danger in it than actual radioactive substances. :cwink: So avoid it if it lets you sleep at night, but I don't think it'll make any real discernible difference.

And yeah, as a microbiologist, I ALWAYS look at population studies with a very dubious eye. You just can't do good rigorous controls on large populations of people.

It's like, some people just have bad genes. My uncle (related by marriage) eats well, exercises, has cut out all salt from his diet, but needs medication to control his high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Whereas my family (grandmother, mother, me) can eat whatever the hell we want and our cholesterol numbers are phenomenal. And we have trouble keeping our blood pressure UP. :funny: A lot of that is luck of the gene pool, and the more we do genetic studies, the more we can really give people good advice about what to do to keep as healthy as possible.

Yeah, I'll never give up meat. In fact, if there's no meat in a meal, I won't consider it a meal. Like, if salad doesn't have grilled chicken in it, it'd be "the poor man's" salad. If spaghetti doesn't have beef in it, I highly doubt even the lady and the tramp would touch it.

To be fair, it's a rare dog that likes to eat vegetables. :funny:

I'm the same way. It balances the meal for me, which I don't think a lot of people understand. Your body needs all the stuff that people call "bad", such as fat and carbs. It's just the type of fat and carbs that you put in your body that causes people to pack on the pounds. I know you probably understand this, Bamf, but a lot of people don't.
