As of today, March 4, 2010, the PS2 has officially been out on the market for 10 years. Some people thought Sony was crazy when they first announced plans for this goal but 10 years after 3/4/00, the PS2 is still in production and still selling tens of thousands each month. While sales are down, its still doing relatively well considering its age. It remains one of the best consoles ever released with a large and diverse library which launched some great series such as God of War, Ratchet and Clank, and Kingdom Hearts as well as sequels to existing franchises like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and Grand Theft Auto. What are some of your favorite titles and memories of the system?

Totally agree. Some of my favorites: WWE's Here Comes The Pain, Fight Night Round 2, Scarface, Gun, GTA, Hitman series.

Where the hell is KH2? That and Okami should be in the top 10.

I got a PS2 Christmas of 2000. I never had a great deal of interest in it until Kingdom Hearts came out. KH2 is definitely my favorite game on the system. I never played it a whole lot since the load times were unbearable compared to the Gamecube. I also liked the GC controller more.

I also loved Star Wars: Battlefront on it. I never played it online since my PS2 was an early model that didn't have an ethernet port.

Man, I still remember the US release, months later. People camped out in front of Wal-Mart at 1:00 in the morning and me laughing at it on the news, calling them jackasses... then wishing I was one of those jackasses, because I couldn't get my system until February. Then, I called Sony jackasses for the shortage and threw out a few jackass references to the people who were paying $1000+ on eBay. Fun times.

GTA III was probably the first game I spent WAY too much time on. That's when the bond between man and machine was truly cemented; when I started scheduling activities around how much more time I could log on my PS2. Yeesh.

Also, I distinctly recall flipping out when I got a Network Adapter. Online Madden and College Football. Oh man.

With going for 25, I think they tried to be as diverse as possible and limiting their choices to 1 franchise (GoW being the exception). IMO, KH was the superior game. KH2 was good, but the first was better

If they were limiting their choices of 1 per franchise, why the hell would they make the exception with GoW? The only thing that separates them is the incredibly simple plot. Every FF is a new game under the FF umbrella. KH1 and 2 both had very intricate plots and 2 introduced a lot of new mechanics. MGS I would understand, too.

I'll never forget the launch. I got the PS at launch and this was just so anticipated. I remember on my birthday the very famous amazing TV spot the "PS9" trailer for the PS2 was amazing. Those words were stamped into my head forever...."The Beginning"

Also earlier during E3 I'll never forget the unveiling of MGS2, I remember my jaw was to the ground.

I too stayed over night at my local Wal-Mart, I was sixth in line and they only had like 30 consoles. I remember we each got this badge with PS2 on it, and we got our consoles in the famous blue bag as well as the awesome blue box.

I remember it was freezing out when I was waiting, it was so cold, but worth it. I bought Summoner, Timespliters, SSX, and Tekken Tag Tournament on launch. As well as the vertical stand, and the DVD remote. With a memory card and additional controller to boot.

Ahhh such great memories. 2001 was just amazing that year. GTA III as well was a heavily played game, as well as Twisted Metal Black....(give us a new Twisted Metal Sony!!!) I played that for hours on end. As well with GT3. But I remember I was so addicted to MGS2 when it came out, and the surprise that FFX actually came out in December, I remember it was going to be delayed then as a surprise it came out before Christmas.

Now with so many good Sony sequels coming out I'm even more excited for the future of the PS3.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is my favorite game of all time, and Jax and Daxter is also up there.

I love my PS2 :(

MGS3 is my favorite game as well. Glad to see it ranked so high where it belongs

I didnt get a PS2 till July 2001. I waited almost a year and it was the release of Twisted Metal Black that did it for me. I was such a huge fan of TM2 and was disgusted with the horrible turn the series went with its sequels. Black redeemed it and brought it right back on top. I traded in my PS1, and a few games at Gamestop to get enough money to get it. I cant remember what other games I got with it. I think maybe Tekken Tag Tournament

I remember I got one on Launch Day, Midnight Club was pretty sweet. I loved having a second DVD player in the house.

How I miss the days of the original SOCOM game. Many great memories

God, EyeToy. Been a while since I thought about that thing.

Its most significant contribution to gaming is that it is the precursor to Sony's upcoming motion controls, which if proves successful, wouldnt not have been a reality without the Eyetoy

Well, I'm glad it had some practicality, because I distinctly recall wondering 'Who the **** would buy this?' when it was announced. Eh.

It was pure crap for the PS2. Not so much the camera itself but the support it got didnt justify it. In the long run its good that it didnt become one of those accessories that fail and get abandoned. Sony instead upgraded and developed it further with the PS Eye. Support for it has been better, but still pretty low. At least it will be put to some more practical use in the near future

Never got a ps2, went from ps1 to pc gaming for years then got a ps3 :D

I Rememer when i first bought X-Men Legends... I was soooo excited

Me too. The idea of an X-men RPG was too good to be true and I loved the hell out of that game. It was the best Xmen game to date when it was released and it was so good to see something different bc for the years prior to it, it was mainly fighters

It's a glorious little black box. Has to be the best console of all-time.

I agree 100%

Solid, solid machine. I still play San Andreas,
I agree nearly the best console ever.

I remember the PS2 launch as well. With the PS1 I got it for Christmas as a kid, and couldn't believe the upgrade in graphics going from the Genesis to PS1 with Bandicoot, TM, and Battle Arena Toushinden. I was really, really hyped for the PS2 launch tho, PS1 I didn't get at launch and grew into. PS2 I was thinking the graphics would be as good as the PS1 cinema's, and was the first time I started regularly getting magazines just to stay up to date on info about it.

Anyway's, /salute PS2. Gave me a lot of good gaming years. Really amazed the PS2 was able to last so long.
