The Official "Playstation 2" Appreciation Thread

With a gaming library consisting of literally thousands of games, including memorable characters and new franchises like God of War, Ratchet and Clank, Jax and Daxter, GTA, Twisted Metal, Burnout, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, etc...and with such a long running time at the top of virtually every sales chart, the PS2 is arguably the greatest and most successful console in gaming history.

I enjoy playing my PS3, really I do. But only do I get that huge nostalgia kick when I turn on my PS2 and play games like Shadow of the Colossus, essentially witnessing the peak of popular gaming. I love PS2 slim to death and take good care of it, and do not lack an appreciation for it, especially now where it has to live in the shadow of its successor.

What do you love most about your PS2? What do you remember about the era where the PS2 ruled all in the world of gaming? What games really made you love gaming all over again with the PS2?

The PS2 is definitely my favorite console.

Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, Okami are among my favorite titles of all time and they started on the PS2. Not to mention that it was the launching point for great franchises like Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Jak & Dakter, God Of War, Devil May Cry. Not to also mention the redefining of franchises like Twisted Metal and Silent Hill

Plus, there's the gems that shine still to this day. ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Dark Cloud 2, God Hand, Rule Of Rose.

Lots of good memories from my PS2. Have too many PS2 titles to count in my collection, and I'd have a significant amount more if I hadn't sold and traded some of them before hand. Still adding to that collection as well; bought Lego Batman less then a year ago, just ordered Shadow Of Destiny from eBay and will be buying Kingdom Hearts RE:Chain Of Memories soon.

Yep, looks of good times in that era. Logged in a lot of hours into the old PS2, eventually got a PS2 Slim and worked that one pretty rough, too but never had any significant trouble with it.

The Playstation 2 is so incredible that I'm not even done with it yet. I still have to get Final Fantasy 10, The Punisher and the original Max Payne games.

But yeah, this truly was the system for everyone, Metal Gear Solid 3 is my favorite video game of all time. One can only hope looking back 9 years from the PS3's launch that it will have enjoyed as rich as selection.

This console is still my favourite. The next Gen is good and everything but there's just something... Missing.

Words can't exress how legendary the ps2 is, an unmatched gaming library with so many titles among my all time favs, and also even tho it didn't debut on the ps2, it was on the ps2 that I got my first taste of what I believe to be the greatest series of games, the mgs ganes, with mgs2, not too mention the same with the final fantasy series, 10 being the first one that I played, the great dmc series, the indescribably great shadow of the colossus, just a great system with great games, I have a ps2 slim right now but to tell u the truth, I actually prefer the original one, I may be in the minority here

honestly, i just thought it looked cooler and i didnt like the new disc eject thing on the slim, the slim just looked kinda fragile to me

I have had a PS2 slim since 2005 and it sill works great. Take that Microsoft!
