You beat me to it. I was going to say "Wait!" Let's see what CD's he has and games he's been playing!"![]()
What? I didn't say that.....

What do they hunt, and what is left of what they hunt? I come from a family of hunters, and NONE of them would even think of using an AR15 or anything like it...that's stupid.
Wow. Pretty judgmental about people choosing to purchase/use certain firearms. Why is it stupid exactly? Just because your family of hunters wouldnt think of using an AR15 to hunt doesnt mean its not a viable firearm for that task.
Perhaps a person is a former or current military/police and are comfortable using that platform. Maybe they decided start hunting and already have that rifle available to use. Why would they purchase another rifle just to start a new hobby? That would seem stupid to me.
I personally dont hunt, but I do own an Ar15. What do you mean by "what is left of what they hunt?" The .223 and 5.56 are pretty small rounds compared to a lot of typical hunting rounds (like the .308). So, Im not sure where you are going with that comment.
Finally, yes, I do personally know people that hunt deer with AR15s and AR10s. Again, I dont, but if I ever decided to or needed to, I would certainly be comfortable taking my Ar15 to hunt.
Also, I mentioned a few other activities that one could use the AR15 for, not just hunting and I also never said it was a prime firearm for self protection, although your reaction to my first post seemed to make me think that was all that I said.
I'm not judging anyone....there are firearms to hunt, firearms for competition.....the AR15 were developed for NEITHER OF THOSE THINGS they were developed to kill people in war.....that is not judgment that is fact.....
So....because it was "developed to kill people in war" it would be stupid to hunt with it?
You straight up said that
I come from a family of hunters, and NONE of them would even think of using an AR15 or anything like it...that's stupid.
So you either think that the idea of using the AR15 to hunt is stupid or the person using the Ar15 to hunt is stupid. Your comment that "that's stupid" is judgmental.
I gave some examples of why/how the AR15 might be used as a hunting firearm. You didnt comment on that and simply said it was made for war. Your comments also make me think that you disagree with using the AR15 for competitions is not a good idea because it was made for war. I dont get it.
Skateboards were originally made for recreation, not transportation or to win a medal at the X-games, so if you purchase/use a skateboard for something other than recreation, is that stupid too?
Is it my opinion that it is stupid to hunt with an AR 15....yes. Skateboards are not used in mass killings....so I really don't have an opinion on them.I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but that is how I feel.
You bought an Ar15 for one reason, 'cause you thinks it's cool and it makes you feel badass.
Same reason a lot of minors start drinking and smoking. It's dumb and should be banned.
LOL. You didnt hurt my feelings. You just disregarded some of the things I said, which are also facts (some people hunt with AR15s, etc).
Again, I dont hunt at all, but if I did, I would use mine, as I have nothing else that could take down a deer (assuming that is what I am hunting of course).
Oh and I know NOTHING about skateboarding, that was just the first thing that came to mind.
In this debate over the AR-15...
This is nothing more than a civilian version on the M16 assault rifle. The only real difference is that the M16 could originally fire full auto, while the AR-15 could not. Since then, the M16 has lost it's full auto mode in favor of a 3 round burst. Now, here's the kicker. A simple Google search will lead you to results that will walk you through converting your AR-15 from single shot, to full auto!!
Personally, having spent a lot of time with the M16 from my days in the army, and knowing it was designed for combat, I can really not think of any good reason why a civilian would need something like it. Hunting? There are way better options out there than the AR-15. And, for home defense, you would be much better off with a pistol or shotgun due to the closed quarters.
Someone on TDKR Facebook Page proposed the idea of Christian Bale dressed as Batman for visit all the kids ho have been injured during the event. To let them know that bad guys will not get away with it.
As (was) I, I used to be a member of the dutch Military Police and Immigration.
Why would you have the need for an AR15 as a civilian, other than the fact it makes you feel tough in the shooting range?
And that would be a terrible idea. Christian Bale showing up in costume would be totally insulting, not to mention patronizing to all involved. Besides, I'm sure the folks at DC and Warner Bros. camp want to distance their property as far as possible from the misery and insanity of this crime. The box office intake last weekend was already dented by the news; they don't want that trend to continue.
As for Holmes? I want to see this guy fried.![]()
Even with the reasons you've listed, I'm not seeing any of them as being real good justification for a civilian needing to own these. Especially with the ability to convert them to full auto. You keep using "you".....I assume at this point you mean why would a civilian have the need for an AR15?
I cant speak for anyone else really. But I have multiple civilain friends that own AR15s, among other firearms.
Some are simply gun collectors....they never even shoot them. I personally think that is a little strange, but I guess a person can collect what they choose. Heck I know a guy who has a dozen AR15s and a dozen AK47s....and thats just the beginning of his collection.
I have a friend that competes in 3 gun competitions several times a year. One of those guns is supposed to be a semi-auto rifle chambered in .223.
I have a few friends (as mentioned earlier) that hunt deer with their Ar15s (well, one of them has an Ar10, essentially the same rifle in a different caliber).
I have a friend that is ex-military that told me he wanted one because he carried it in Afghanistan and trained with it for years and just feels like he should own one.
I know a few people who truly think we will have a zombie apocalypse or hostile takeover and want the most firepower they can get.
And yes, I know a few guys who simply think they are cool and wanted one to show off at the range.
I agree. I heard about that idea on Friday just after it happened, but I'm glad it really hasn't picked up any traction...it's a terrible idea. It's just really inappropriate.
The little girl who was killed is around the same age as Christian Bale's daughter, I'm sure knowing that isn't making any of this any easier from his own point of view.
Even with the reasons you've listed, I'm not seeing any of them as being real good justification for a civilian needing to own these. Especially with the ability to convert them to full auto.
Well, no questions anymore on the color of his hair....they are showing his first court appearance live right now....

That is correct, he did not convert it. Which only drives my point about the connotation of the words "assualt rifle" even further home. People read that word and automatically imagine a gun shooting hundreds of rounds a second.I understand.
Thats your opinion and apparently these people I listed have theirs as well.
Obviously, most of them are not "needed."
It seems everyone keeps bringing up the full auto conversion stuff. I read that Holmes (back on topic) didnt have his converted for full auto, but did have a large capacity magazine. Is that correct?
