Definitely the 1770-1820's. The American people were on average higher educated and more literate than today.

They had a love of Freedom unmatched by any other time. Did they have problems? Disease, Slavery, etc? Yes, but you will find bad things everywhere. Anytime.

If not the 1770's then the 1950-1960's. I love Johnny Cash and that time period.
