I am currently listening to this book thru an audio book while at work.

I never had time previously, but decided it was time to listen.

Quite interesting...

I've always meant to. But never have

YEAH, IT WAS A GOOD READ......BUT I FOUND IT TO BE A LITTLE AHEAD OF IT'S TIME.

I read "1984" and "Animal Farm" many, many moons ago when I was in the 9th grade I think it was. Both are excellent and though provoking.

'Animal Farm' was a good read.

I haven't read 1984, but I just took a look at a summary of it, and I might check it out. The totalitarian concepts sound pretty interesting along w/ the idea keeping citizen's focused on an external enemy to avoid rebellion.

It sounds like another good one.

HMMMM........NOW WHY DOES THAT SOUND FAMILIAR? :o

THE DEGREE TO WHICH 'ORWELL'S "PROPHECIES" RING TRUE, IS TRULY SCARY.

Easily one of my favorites along with Brave New World.

Read it back in the late 70's to be prepared.....it just took until 2006 for it to become true.

The John Hurt film version is quite good.

Don't have to read it... we're LIVING it. :o

But yeah, it's a great and scary read. The ending is particulary scary when.... BWAHA! Fooled ya!:daredevil

This is one of those "I've read so much about it that I know everything about it but then I realize I never actually read the book" books.

A long, long time ago, when I was in High School.

One thing that strikes me as interesting, he predicted everyone being forced to be on camera everywhere. He was only a little off, he didn't realize most people would voluntarily be on camera, some of them choosing to be on all the time.

I'm going back and reading a lot of books I never got to in english class. I finished The Picture of Dorian Grey -- now I want to read 1984

Considering the thousands of cameras placed around cities like NYC and Boston, among others, I'd say he was dead on.

The year I was born!!!

1984 was a FANTASTIC, and influential book...you can see it's effects in works like Equlibrium and V for Vendetta...

...I've seen the movie, does that count?

I loved animal farm which for some reason I just read this year and 1984 sits on my bookshelf waiting to be read :( I've read Brave New World does that count for anything...
