World 1992 cartoon series VS X-Men: Evolution

They didn't water much down.Aside from Jean not killing Asparagus people or dieing, and not using the name "Hellfire Club".:o:confused:

Besides, they just used was once the intended ending for the Phoenix Saga.

It could have been better. But, it is still my favorite part of TAS.

I only liked the second half. The M'Kraan Crystal stuff wasn't all that engaging.

Everything from The Dark Phoenix and beyond was good stuff. I don't like the Crystal stuff myself. But, as a Jean fan, I watch what little bit they give me. :D

The X-men vs the Imperial Guard on the moon was my fave episode of TAS

I can never look past the fact that the X-Men lived at an exclusive private school and yet attended a public high school at the same time. And the fact that the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants went to the same high school and traded barbs in the hallways with the X-Men. And the fact that Evo!Mystique was a high school principal instead of a government official who worked at the Pentagon. And almost everything I ever heard Evo!Nightcrawler say.

That's too childish for me to ever consider it anything close to as good as TAS from the 90's. I haven't even seen that degree of degradation on 'The Batman.' Granted, I only saw a few episodes of that show as well, so it could have dumbed down some in my viewing absence.

Thats a huge change... It made the whole conclusion meaningless.

Which is why Claremont himself admitted the editorially mandated ending was much better.

Sounds like you don't understand at all why I disliked the show.

Do I dislike the changes? Well, let's see... the real X-Men used to be an entertaining and intelligent fictional saga, and 'X-Men: Evolution' presented it as feckless children who say and do embarrasingly stupid things for cheap laughs. Yeah, I suppose I do have a problem with the fact that they changed stuff.

How was TAS anymore intelligent than Evo? Yea, the first 2 seasons of Evo have a lot of high school stuff going on. Its a show for kids, but so was TAS. And Evo handled the characters far more intelligently, especially Rogue, Cyclops, Jean and Xavier, all of whom are much worse in TAS. Even Gambit became tolerable instead of Guy-Who-Makes-Annoying-Comments-In-Bad-Accent. Spyke was kind of annoying but no more so than Jubilee.

Only a simpleton would think that the changes don't define the cartoon itself. When you make a watered-down, kid-ified version of something that has been around for years, it doesn't get to stand on its own, it gets compared to its betters. If this show was the first incarnation ever of the franchise known as 'X-Men,' I'd never have gotten into it. It's got more character development than 'Power Rangers' (which is really saying a lot, isn't it?) and that's the most complimentary thing I can say about it.

Just because its changed and takes place among teenagers doesn't mean its "watered down". Is Smallville watered down Superman? Evo is not as good as Smallville, but I certainly think its better than TAS because it tells good stories with superior characterization.

Don't debase yourself by giving me the completely worthless, unoriginal platitude that "changes have to be made," or that cartoons aren't comics. They had a good cartoon already, and they let it get $hitty toward the end and then let some half-assed teeny-bopper version-- that's obviously even more for the sole purpose of selling toys than the original-- take it's place. They could have continued that show instead, with the resolution to keep it high-quality, but that wasn't catchy enough for the youngsters, and mature storytelling is sooo ten to fifteen years ago.

/shrug whatever, dude. I'm old enough to have watched TAS while growing up and I still prefer Evo.

Is 'Smallville' watered down Superman?

Is that really a question??

Yeah, I think I'm done here. I can feel my brain degenerating as I type this. Good Lord...

Loved the scenes toward the end of this episode. It really helped to define Mystique's character. How manipulative and out for revenge she really was. I loved Jean's rescue too, how she crushed Mystique up against a wall with her telekinesis.

One of my favaourite episodes. TAS Jean was pathetic when not aided by a cosmic entity. In Evolution Jean's was powerful in her own right as her powers developed. She would have been astounding as Phoenix.

It's such a shame we never got to see the Phoenix saga in Evolution. I would have loved to have seen the take they took on it.

Blind Alley was probably my favorite episode from Evolution.

Indeed she was flying. Also notice how she wasnt wearing gloves. The artist mistake or what? And while we're on it,Jean is quite noticibly absent.

Like Evolution, its a kids show. And the kind of show where it's sorta taboo to even say the word "dead".

What, you mean "Mah power's your power an' I can take more 'n one!" is bad dialogue? That's pretty awesome if you ask me.

As is that statue-killing thing. Hot damn.

Eh,the line's not awful, but most of everything else was cringe-worthy.I did her owning Blob though.

According to wikipedia(so take it as you will),the 5th season finale wouldn't tackled Dark Phoenix.
