2009 NFL Draft Thread (aka Excel & Norman's personal b**ch and moan thread)

The organization has some confidence in Clemmens and Ratliff.

They do?

They have Cotchery.

Who produces like a decent 32.

Whether they draft one in the first round or not, the Jets are still very likely to pick up a running back. And Thomas Jones is also holding out for a new contract...which at 30 years old the Jets would be a bit silly to give him. The reason Moreno makes since is his ability to help in the passing game

The only way they go Moreno is if every wr, wells, staff, and sanchez are all off.

Again, Britton doesn't help much because he is a right tackle on a team needing a left. Oher will be gone before 21. Beatty is possible, but there is a reason people have him as the six tackle in the draft. I don't understand how Reid has the ability to eliminate the talent difference between tackles

They have both Andrews to play tackle; they will add either a rb or wr through the draft. I would think thats a fact.

Yes.

Wha? Are you implying he is 32 years old? Because...he's not.

The only way they go Moreno is if every wr, wells, staff, and sanchez are all off.

Wells doesn't make as much sense as Moreno because he isn't a receiving threat. It all depends on how the Jets view Moreno and how they view the WR's. Stafford and Sanchez WILL be gone.

As I have mentioned several times...neither of the Andrews are left tackles.

The Eagles will definitely add a RB in the draft, but I don't know if they will add a WR, or at least one that will make an impact next year.

#2 :cwink:

Washington is their recieving back, period. Moreno wont take that job from him.

Theyll move one if they have to. If it comes down to Wells/Moreno or an OT...I bet they go RB. McNabb would almost definetly raise hell if they dont (and rightfully so) and there is no way they put in Kevin Kolb.

WR is a toss up. I can see them snagging a guy like Ramses Barden late just because McNabb needs a red zone threat.

Aha, I think Cotchery can be a #1. It is very possible that they will select a wide receiver, but, again it comes down to their big board.

Washington is their recieving back, period. Moreno wont take that job from him.

Or they can both be receiving backs. That's a good way to help a less than stellar QB group.

Theyll move one if they have to.

You don't get it. The difference between a left tackle and a right tackle is not which side of the line they play on.

I would take that bet.

It's possible.

It wouldnt be the 1st time somebodys moved to LT

*sigh*

The people that successfully move from RT to LT have the skills to be a LT. The Andrews are prototypical RT's, they are huge, dominating run blockers. Their strength is not pass protecting, they lack quick feet. Thats why they are ideal at right tackle and guard. That's why many see Andre Smith as being a RT more than a LT and why is stock was already falling BEFORE the combine.

Left tackles have to be more athletic, with quicker feet. Better pass blockers. That's why Jason Smith is a great LT prospect.

Reids specialty is offensive lineman...if anybody could do it besides Bill, its Andy Reid.

I read a report saying Knowshon has visited the Bengals, and that they seem to be interested him. Geesh, if there's somewhere worst than Detroit, it's gotta be Cincy. Mike Brown is dumbest, cheapest most incompetent owner in the league.

I'll fight you for cheapest owner the bucs won't spend a dime even though we are way under the cap, they have too much money tied up in their soccer franchise:csad::mad:

If Cinci trades Ocho Cinco, theyll take Crabs most likely. Who else do they have, Andre Caldwell?

I think they'll draft a OT regardless of what they do with Ocho Cinco. OT should be priority #1.

St. Louis is reportedly willing to trade the #2 overall pick. Jason Smith is most likely worth the price if a team is willing to trade up for him.

The Jets don't need to draft Josh Freeman. What they need is a veteran QB who has more then six starts in his career. Losman, Leftwich and Grossman are still out there as free agents. Otherwise it's going to be a very long season for the Jets. They take Harvin or Macklin, it doesn't matter if they have nobody to throw to them.

Any team that drafts Josh Freeman before the 2nd round is getting robbed.

I miss the old days when the Jets 1st round pick was a guaranteed laugher. I also love how every draft since then how ESPN will whip out that montage video of the Jets drafting Jeff Lageman, Blair Thomas, Johnny Lamb Jones ,etc and their fans looking like they wanted to kill themselves.

Lions Locking In On Stafford
Posted by Mike Florio on April 8, 2009, 11:51 a.m. EDT

Though they’ve done a fairly good job of keeping people guessing about their true intentions, we’re told that the Detroit Lions currently plan to take quarterback Matthew Stafford with the first pick in the 2009 draft.

If what we’re hearing and how we’re hearing it is part of the smokescreen process, then they’re doing a fabulous job of it.

Based on the organization’s recent history, however, it’s more likely that they aren’t quite as crafty about spreading misinformation as this specific tactic would require. (For obvious reasons, we can’t disclose how we obtained the information.)

Although as to the other teams there’s no strategic reason to conceal the identity of the player they plan to draft since the Lions get the first pick, there’s a separate shell game as it relates to negotiating a contract.

Given that Michigan tackle Jake Long received $30 million guaranteed last year on a five-year deal, a quarterback taken in the first overall slot will likely want $35 million guaranteed on a five-year contract — and more than $40 million guaranteed on a six-year deal.

That said, there’s a ceiling on the maximum possible guaranteed money that a rookie can receive, in light of the rookie salary pool (which limits the total payout to all of a team’s first-year players) and the rules regarding the extent to which the contract can grow in future seasons.

Whatever the ceiling is, Stafford will surely want it all, if he’s the first overall pick.

Two years ago, the Raiders took quarterback JaMarcus Russell in the No. 1 spot. A lengthy holdout, which stretched into September, washed out any chance of getting meaningful playing time as a rookie. He eventually appeared in four games, starting one and generating a passer rating of 55.9.

John Clayton was on the Collin Cowheard show this morning and said that the Jags are interested in Beanie Wells and that New Orleans is interested in Knowshon Moreno.

The Jags I could see being interested in a second back, but New Orleans? They have an aging linebacker core and are in need of a young corner that can hold down their secondary for years. Pierre Thomas and Bush can take the load while Brees and that Passing attack go at it again.

If New Orleans had 7 picks, I could see them taking a RB.

But they have 4. And 1 in the first 3 rounds.

Neither are going there.

New Orleans is not going to take Knowshon...not while they have their "future of the franchise" Reggie Bush on board.

And Pierre Thomas is decent enough of a running back to keep the defense somewhat honest to keep from dropping seven or eight into coverage every play. New Orleans has to fill some of their holes on defense before they can even think of drafting another RB. If they work a trade with a team with plenty of picks that drops them down to the lower end of the first round, then I could see maybe justification for taking a RB, but as Norman said, not with just one pick in the first three rounds.
