2010 and beyond - the future trends of film

What also concerns me the most is the continuing trend of really bad movies making millions and given free passes because of the 'type' of movie they are. I don't know how many times I heard the phrase 'it's not suppose to be Oscar worthy' and other excuses thrown around for crap like Transformers and GI Joe, we as consumer deserve better and should demand it. We're at risk of breeding a generation who'll accept mediocrity.

I'm just hoping that it was just the Writer's Strike that made 2009 a lackluster year for big movies. In effct, it actually made people pay attention to the smaller and ultimately better movies like Moon and 500 Days of Summer.

Also, 2008 was a great year for movies. It was the '1982' and '1989' for the 2000s.

I actually thought 2007 was the best year this decade.

You had great dramas like No Country for Old Men, Michael Clayton, There Will be Blood, and The assassination of Jesse James, Rescue Dawn, Talk to me, and Gone Baby Gone.

Great action films IMO like Transformers, Live Free or Die Hard, The Bourne Ultimatum, I am Legend (with the original ending), 3:10 to Yuma, and 300.

There were also some surprisingly good films like Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan (a very good year for Justin Timberlake).

Even had some really good musicals come out like Dreamgirls and Enchanted.

But 2007 also was the year of the comedy; with films like Music and Lyrics, Blades of Glory, Oceans thirteen, Knocked Up, Ratatouille, Surf's Up,The Simpson's Movie, Juno, Charlie Wilson's War, Walk Hard, andmy personal favorite, Superbad (haha it was as if they wrote a story about me and my friends' Friday nights).

2007 had it all IMO

yeah, 2007 had great indies and dramas; infact, I don't think we haven't even touch the films of that year, Oscar-wise. You had No Country, Blood, Jesse James, Juno, Atonement, and the list goes on.

The summer movies were entertaining though not as strong as 2008's but that's for a different thread. nevertheless, it was a strong year.

superhero movies can survive if the change the structure of how they tell the origin stories.

with a lot of the first films its like they just filled in a Comic Book Movie Madlib, placing in the slightly different characters and situations and cranking them out.

If they can find different ways of presenting the characters, change up the themes and such superhero films may be around for a long time to come.

And I agree that video game films will come to fruition. If things like Bioshock or even Halo ever get off the ground and are done halfway decently, hollywood will latch on to videogame franchise like mad.
