2014 NFL thread: Down and Dirty - Part 1

I motion that we stop using the word "elite", altogether.

And you are assuming the Broncos would play them the same as well. They played cautious early, and they will learn from that. They will learn from this. If anyone learns it is Peyton.

And there are no elite teams in the NFL. That is the era we live in. We haven't seen an elite NFL team outside of the 07 Pats since the mid 90s. These teams learns from these kind of games, just like how the Seahawks learned from their playoff trips before their Super Bowl victory.

I am not disagreeing on building on what your accomplish nor losing can be beneficial to a degree. My contention is solely on the whole "moral victory" ideology. I don't see a true correlation to prove it since losing the Super Bowl doesn't guarantee a better year next year, nor does making the playoffs the year prior. How many teams end up as just a flash in the pan? Only sometimes, do they truly become mainstays in the playoff picture, and I don't attribute that to moral victories. I attribute that to coaching adjustments and roster moves, which isn't the same thing.

There are definitely still elite teams. In the AFC, you can count on Denver and New England being there in the post-season and they win every year (as currently constructed since we're talking Peyton Denver). NFC, you know Seattle won't go away. That makes them elite. Now, elite teams may not be as talented as they once were. That is true. But, elite teams still exist.

Which is exactly why this games was important. That is the entire point. Why even though the Broncos didn't win, the are showing improvement off the back of a Super Bowl destruction.

And about teams of the word we are no longer allowed to use, they are suppose to be teams that could win in any era. That is what makes them standout.

I think defensively, they certainly are. While they exploded offensively late, I'd say overall, the offense has struggled more this year. Largely in the rushing game. Monte Ball simply isn't doing nearly what Moreno did last year. That could hurt them come playoff time if they don't fix the running game up a bit.

I think we just differ on the definition of that term in this case. I would define it as the teams that have the most success in a given era/period of time. Not necessarily that they're timeless or match up against other eras. I see that as a different conversation altogether.

Y'all aren't even Denver or Seattle fans.

:o

I'm a fan of good football....that was a spectacular game, no reason why people can't be excited about that...

Might as well be a home game for the Steelers.

The Broncos offense is trying to play differently. Trying something more sustainable against teams like the Seahawks. Ball hasn't been great, but I don't think that has been their "problem" yet. I think it will work out.

Agreed they have a different approach, but they should still be hitting the end zone, just more slowly. So far, they have an awful lot of empty drives for a Manning offense, and I think it is the running game's fault and not Peyton's.

What I find most annoying about the Broncos at times, is if the running game isn't working, they need to start throwing on first and second down more. Third and long is a horrible situation. Also, they need to give themselves more then one chance to get the first.

Panthers are playing like ****. :down

Need the offense to do something here.

That is definitely a broken ulna or radius. Ike is done for the season.

Great. Steelers finally put together a good defensive performance and it results in injuries to some of their best players. Shame about Ike, especially. I've b**ched about him over the years but all in all, he's a good player and that's a horrible injury to get.

Ike has a big f***ing forehead. That's all I have to say about this. :o

And that is most likely game. Where is DoomsdayApex when I am right? :(

We need a gif of the Panthers' coach's icy stare. That was beautiful.
