I figure it is close enough it is time to create this thread, rather than clog the other threads with midterm talk.

Lots of crazy things going on this year. What should have been a year for GOP to cement control of the Senate is turning into a fight for them to control the Senate.

Texas is crazy. One poll had Cruz up 9 points, but then another one came out later that week with O'rourke up 2, which that one poll alone is seismic for Texas.

It looks like the GOP has abandoned my state, MI, in terms of spending. Which is nice, as there is a great pushback against the GOP it seems.

I hope the pushback continues. It’s an important landmark towards making trump a one term president. If there’s not a blue wave it doesn’t mean that won’t happen but it’s a lot harder

Let me present to you the M. Night of political ads. Seriously, stay to the end.

There could be all sorts of crazy 'Hail Mary' throws and distractions in last weeks before the election, whatever Trump and his Russian benefactors have cooking up.

Well, the Dems essentially picked up a seat when the chair for Ways and Means had to drop out when his child sexual abuse came to light.

And in Texas, it sounds like Cruz was doing well at the debate, until he had to get in an insult on the complement your opponent question.

Beto's "True to form" response was fantastic.

CNN - 256 women won House and Senate primaries, a huge new record

A total of 256 women have qualified for the November ballot in House or Senate races so far -- 197 Democrats and 59 Republican candidates, according to an analysis of election results. There are 234 women running for the House and 22 for the Senate.

First, it's clear that Democrats are nominating more women than Republicans. The Democratic party has made it a priority to nominate women and have made women candidates a part of their platform in midterm races.

It'd be quite a different federal legislature and judiciary if it resembled the population, where men are <50% and white dudes are ~30%. There's a long way to go for that to happen.

Yeah, the gender discrepancy in the parties is also very, very telling.

That’s wonderful! Fingers crossed the trend continues!

I noticed my posts every now and then disappear and can't be seen anymore since the board 'upgrade' in addition to general slowness...

Men are <50% of the U.S. population and white men like me are about 30% of the population. Obviously, the judiciary and legislature and presidency has never resembled that and there's a long, long way to go.

So, DeSantis got a new campaign manager. Always a good sign this close to the election.

Donald Trump is the greatest gift the Democratic party has ever had.

After the miracle win he got in 16... I'm not taking anything for granted anymore. He does get his people out. We are still under attack by actors who want him to win. Republicans could pull out another surprise in November. Crazier things have happened.

I'm seeing a lot of Beto support down here in San Antonio. Every Cruz ad I've seen is in hardcore attack mode, whereas Beto is largely ignoring Cruz and saying what he can do for Texas.
However many of the people I work with claim he's some sort of extreme socialist and a criminal. My boss straight up said he'd have to vote Republican this year just to stop Beto (he usually votes Libertarian)

Beto's probably not going to win, he'll just do a lot better than predecessors. He actually does seem pretty cool and middle-ground though, everything other than the DUI I've seen from him paints him as pretty reasonable, certainly not one of the crazies.

Cruz'll probably pull it off though, just not by anywhere near as much as he would have if O'Rourke weren't as good a candidate as he is.

Yeah, I'm fully expecting Cruz to win, but how close it is right now has shocked a lot of people down here already.

It's the incremental move of Texas. Maybe Dems won't take the state this time... maybe not even next time... but the trend line is moving in that direction, and unless something happens, it will go blue eventually.

So the ol' "we win even though we lose" PR spin. Awesome.

Cruz is a jackass. He's still representing all-of-Texas-except-Austin a great deal more than O'Rourke does.

That's because people keep flocking to Texas cities from all across the country. In the 7 years I've been in San Antonio the city has exploded in size, there's continual new construction. It's only a matter of time before the major population centres outweigh the rural communities when it comes to elections.

Money that is going to Texas isn't going to Tennesee or Arizona or Nevada. Texas which isn't safe is going to cause a drain on resources in other areas, which are also in danger.

I'm not sure his last debate left him in a spot he wanted to be in.

I think Kavanaugh is beginning to affect the polls.

That, or they're figuring the GOP's going to cut-and-run on the Kavanaugh nomination and are p*ssed over that to the extent they're less likely to show up on polling day.

Houston is blue.

Is winning a good thing if it is for doing the wrong thing?
