Kirk's first day as captain descends into chaos when the Enterprise is captured by a scavenger ship

I've enjoyed this season, but haven't loved it. Until this episode. The team split up, each of their dilemmas, and the resolution. A bit of danger, a bit of fun. All of it worked very well. I even dug Kirk here.

I think a big help here was cutting out the high school relationship stuff that has sucked up a lot of the season so far.

Hoping this kicks off a strong second half of the season.

When La'an beamed away, I realized what they were doing. Hello Year 1 stealth pilot.

I do really like this Kirk. And it gives a nice background and yeah, he definitely still would have cheated at the Kobayoshi Maru. I was kind of expecting him to bring it up with his little chat with Spock, but I understand not wanting to step on Trek 2 too much.

I suspect someone wanted to do a Borg story, but were told no.
