This is another movie I'm greatly looking forward to.

Why? The cast is ****ing amazing. It stars Ian MacShane, Tom Wilkinson, John Hurt and Ray Winstone. So **** Stallone and his Expendables all-badass cast , THIS is a badass cast.

This is the flattering, description of the movie. It's from the website that's offering the movie up for distribution. So, look through the hyperbole fort he plot. Although it may indeed be as good as promised. Huge potential.

It's from the same dudes who wrote Sexy Beast aswell.

Provocative, outrageously profane and surprisingly tender amidst an explosion of unbridled testosterone, 44 INCH CHEST is a visceral and darkly comic exploration of the masculine ego at breaking point, testing whether fear is stronger than love. Colin (Ray Winstone) is in agony, shattered by his wife’s (Joanne Whalley) infidelity. However, he has friends who do more than stand by - they kidnap the wife's French lover (Melvil Poupaud) and hold him prisoner so that Colin can restore his manhood with revenge. Old Man Peanut (John Hurt), is the Biblical patriarch of the group, with a mean streak; Meredith (Ian McShane), is stylish and tough - a fashion victim with a cutting edge; Mal (Stephen Dillane), is a man who lives in the shadows and explodes with telling, quick violence. As the hostage situation escalates, so do the emotional stakes for each of these damaged, prideful men. Combining the coruscating menace and wit of Sexy Beast with the bold storytelling of Trainspotting and the razor-sharp conflicts of Reservoir Dogs, 44 INCH CHEST marks the debut feature of noted photographer and filmmaker Malcolm Venville, and is produced by Richard Brown and Steve Golin, who with Babel, Being John Malkovich, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, among many others, has specialized in innovative pictures that take challenging risks to reap major rewards.

This is a very strange title for a movie, I must say. :p

When reading this title I expected something else... :D

Well, at least they won't have to change the name for the porno version...

I'm very happy that we're all mature enough to enthousiastically discuss this upcoming movie.

Nice thread, this looks to be great. I was reading a while back in Total Film or Empire, can't remember which, but Ian McShane said this film is going to make Sexy Beast look like Marry Poppins. I like the sound of that.

Probably one of the best casts too. John Hurt is going to own it up.

Looks decent. Still think the Expendables sounds better...mainly because I prefer the cast more.

Sounds good and it has a damn good cast...just wish it didn't have such a stupid title.

Look, now we're talking. ;)

Have you already checked out Sexy Beast?

Not yet. I'll check it out someday. My parents could have suspicians when I ask them to rent a film called "Sexy Beast" though. Maybe some day.

I need to rent Snatch and WOK first though.

And soon I will be able to watch The Departed in gloroous Blu ray for my b-day! :woot: Wondering what
DiCaprio's brains will look like in Blu ray!

I didn't even read the synopsis. The cast is enough for me.

It's worth the embarassment, it's a great film.

You haven't seen Snatch either? Damn man, you need some serious British Gangsterfilm education! And what the hell is WOK? I tried, but that's an abbreviation I just can't figure out.... :p

And I haven't even mentioned that Angelo Badalamenti is doing the original score!

First time hearing about this. Color me interested.

Though I don't know about **** The Expendables. :p

Falcone, it's Wrath of Khan. I feel I must watch it before I see ST.

My uncle actually has Snatch in his collection. I was looking through it and came across it. I knew about the film but I made the mistake of not borrowing it.

This will of course take forever to cross the pond. I'm still desperately waiting for the new Michael Caine film :(

^ **** yes, I need Harry Brown in my life.

This movie looks fantastic, the trailer makes me wish I was John Hurt. His role appears to be the most badass, and I'm going to weep tonight knowing I won't be able to see this legitimately for some time.

*prays for a faster US release*

I just saw this flick (it went direct to DVD here in Holland) and it is quite a special film, I really need to rewatch soon. I really liked it. And holy ****ing ****, what a cast. Ray Winstone is amazing, Ian McShane is the king of cool, John Hurt is nearly unrecognizable and Tom Wilkinson and delivers a very comical performance. I also really, really liked the visuals and score.

This took some mulling over, but this is most definitely a fantastic movie. I keep revisiting it in my head, and I kept rewatching bits and scenes of the DVD. It's a movie that lingers, because it is rather unusual and enigmatic and well...fierce. Ofcourse the main attraction here is the acting. Ray Winstone gives an emotionally naked, fearless performance that I consider the best performance I have seen him give. He is is not afraid to blubber, whimper, shout, rant and foam and generally be a complete wreck of a man soaked in his own tears. Second best is probably John Hurt who is HYSTERICAL as the crazy, homophobic, incredibly (and I do mean: incredibly) foul-mouthed senior citizen with illusions of criminal grandeur. All the other guys are phenomenal aswell: The whole movie plays out like a masterclass in ensemble acting, chemistry and obscene dialouge at machine-gun speed. The photography is stylish, with heavy blacks and browns and and a tremendous sense of claustrophobia. Angelo Badalamenti's score nicely complements the tragedy, extreme emotions and escalating madness.

One to watch. Highly recommended. Just do not expect a conventional crowd-pleaser. It's a rather tough piece of work that takes some figuring out.
