Three of the best british actors alive , three of the best actors alive in the world, three of the best actors in cinema history, three legends, three sirs, etc. Who do you prefer? Sir Michael Caine? Sir Ian Mackellen? Sir John Hurt?

I would say John Hurt. Michael Caine is great, amazing, but too many bad movies in his career. Ian is an amazing talent, his work on stage is simply the best in the U.K. since Olivier and paired with John Hurt, but i prefer Hurt by a hair, because its simple one of the actors or maybe the only actor who never does a bad job in a movie. The quality of the movie doesnt matter, Hurt' s job is always impressing. He is the human chameleon, sometimes called " the british Deniro or the british Pacino", and i would say that he is even better than those two legends.

I choose Hurt, but very close with Mackellen and Caine isnt very far.

I love Michael Caine, but it's McKellan hands down for me. I'd watch him (and, well, have) in ANYTHING.

Caine. Though Hurt managed to create one of the greatest moments in film history.

Michael Caine, as great as he is, doesn't vary too much in his performances. His persona is so strong that you're always watching Michael Caine. Whereas McKellen can become completely different characters. Just to take his two best known, Magneto and Gandalf.

McKellen definitely! He's a fantastic and versatile actor!

Christopher Lee should also be a choice imo.

You forgot Alan RICKMAN!
if you don't watch the deadringers you won't get that..

John Hurt.. Except for that ****ty Frankenstien Unbound.

As a actor in in the traditional sense, McKellen. As a film actor though, I'd say Caine is the best. As good as McKellen is, you can tell he's a stage actor through and through. Caine seems to be more concious of the camera, how and where to address his acting, etc.

Hurt is great too, but I'd say both have him beat. Also, [pedantic]as he is a Commander of the British Empire, and not a Knight Commander (the other 2 are), he's not a sir[/pedantic].

My personal fave is Michael Caine, but there's no argument both McKellan and Hurt are BRILIANT actors.

Hurt with Magneto a close second.

Caine is not even close to the other two.

Caine is VERY overrated, Mackellan is a great actor, but John Hurt is undoubtedly the best actor alive at the moment.

I like McKellen a bit more than Michael Caine, although they are both among the greatest of all-time.

John Hurt's performance in the Elephant Man is truely amazing and he's equally awesome in 1984... I got give it to Hurt :)

Yeah, he was great in it, I was about to cry during the scene of beating him

Personally, i think that john hurt was great in alien or in 1984, but the elephant man is his best performance and one of the best performance on screen ever. Very touching and sensitive.
