7.06 - Lara - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I Loved this episode and I loved how they make the House Of El seem very dysfunctional, helps us relate to the amazingly powered Kryptonians.

Yes they do I mean its one thing to bring her onto the show this early in Clark's life when he really didn't meet her or even know about her until he was well into his years as Superman but its another thing to bring her onto the show and make her more advance then Clark. Hell even the Supergirl in the comics is not more advance.

that's pretty weak stealing DOG LIPS avatar

I thought this was a fantastic episode. Except the final scene kinda messed with my head. I mean, how did Clark even -get- the crystal? I doubt he got to the defense lab before Kara... he might have stolen it from Lex, assuming Lex had it somewhere, but still. Strange all around in that scene.

I was thinking that Lionel may have "aquired" from someone for Clark.

Someone explained everything concerning SV lore earlier:

Logic and Smallville don't work well together, that's how to explain all this.

After reading your post, I remembered feeling this way for "Legacy" in season 3 when Dr. Swann mysteriously ended up with the spaceship key at the very end of the episode. Last we saw that key, it had vanished inside the cave wall.

Anyway, during last night's episode, I can fan wank my way around Clark having the key. I suppose he took it first to keep it safe from the government and Kara herself. But, the part that stumped me mostly at the end was Clark mentioning that the crystal having his mom's DNA. Why did he bring that up? With the way Smallville has dabbled in the cloning storylines (from way back in the Emily Dinsmore episodes until this season), I pray that line was just a throw away line. If anything, I can see the wheels in Lana's head turning since she's already seen Lex's experiments up close and personal.

Clark spoke to Lionel about everything he knew regarding that secret organisation. That's how he got to the crystal before Kara.

In the flashback scene that Clark saw, Zor-el said that he had placed Lara's DNA in the crystal.

Sorry, misread your post there. You're wondering what Clark thinks he's going to do with the DNA. Not sure if you read spoilers, but there is something coming up.

Didn't it just fall on the floor? I have this image in my head.

hey did clark say he was going to clone his mother or is that what people are thinking?

i just think he meant that if he opened it or learned how to use it he might be able to talk to her or learn more about her.

maybe, in Lara when Kara finds out he had the crystal he'll tell her about him trying to use the fortress to communicate with Lara. something like that.

Seriously though, sometimes it just comes down to how much I liked an episode on a gut level. K-Site voted Subterranean as the worst episode of the year last year. Geeze, it wasn't a great ep, but it wasn't that bad, was it? I also loved Noir - a LOT - and Triplet had it second to last behind Static. (I'm not singling you out Trip, just an example.) Despite the ridiculously corny plot, I really LOVED Spell. To this day, people STILL lambaste that episode. I liked Delete and Velocity, and those two episodes are usually tied for "worst" of the 3rd season. I thought Lexmas was meh, yet some people absolutely adored it. Some people couldn't handle the "T2" FOTW in Gone; I loved the ep for all of the Clark and Lois scenes. And while Promise had a unique concept of showing each character's differing points of view, something about that episode curled my nose - yet there are fans who put it as best of the season. Best of the season?!! Uh... no. LOL And finally, there's "Spirit." OMG! *shudders* It astonishes me to this day people actually liked that episode. Holy cow! LOLOL!!!

As a whole, some people rank S6 as the best season of the series. I thought it was the worst. Different strokes folks. Different strokes.

Some of "Lara" was truly eye-roll worthy for me. When I do that in an episode of SV - and it starts in the teaser act *before* the opening credits - that aint good.

That's kinda what i'd hoped. He could somehow install the crystal into the Fortress, and be able to commune with Lara the way he does with Jor-El.

yeah i think thats what he would do. i don't really think clark would clone someone. its just not him.

That would be awesome. I read that Helen Slater doesnt like to leave her family in L.A., so this would be a good way to keep her on the show, as just a voice in the FOS. And I wonder if that's what Jor-el did??

(Clark inserts blue crystal)

Kara - Whos there where am I

Clark - Hi mom your in the fortress of solitude with me & Jor-El

Kara - Mom your Kal-El ?

Clark - Yep

Jor-El - Lara howd you get here ?

Clark - Zor-El wanted to clone her before Krypton exploded he had a thing for her

Jor-El - I should have killed him when I had the chance

Clark - Well this is an interesting family reunion I should get Kara & John in here

Jor-El - John the Martian Manhunter hes still around ?

Clark - Yep & dont worry those two made up

it would be good if thats what happens at the end of blue.

I'm about two bad episodes away from dropping SV.

As if Clone Lana wasn't bad enough, we got Clone Lara. Oh, and did we mention that Clark is sneaking around behind Kara's back? Clark has been so UN-Supermanly these past two weeks that it sickens me.

I hate Lana's story. I'm starting to hate Clark's. And the love triangle was stupid...though that didn't bother me nearly as much as the other two things.

If I don't see significant improvement, I'm out. Because this is NOT Superman.

"You act like a hero, but you only ever think about yourself."
-Kara

It's so true in the SV-verse, and it shouldn't be. SV has me pissed off.

I like how people are mad bc they THINK Lara will be cloned. We have no idea that will happen.

I don't care if she is or isn't.

Superman doesn't go behind people's backs - ESPECIALLY not family.

I think given what he's been warned about regarding the crystal, and what he saw in the vision about her father, knowing he gave it to her, I wouldn't expect him to be forthcoming about it to Lara yet. Family or not, he doesn't really know her that well.
