7.06 - Lara - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

He was told she couldn't be trust and that she isn't what she seems from a trusted friend so he took precautions. He is preventing something from happening. He doesn't know 100% for sure Kara is who she says she is, neither do we.

ITA

And maybe Clark is protecting Kara as well as himself. It's just as easy to give him the benfit of the doubt as to assume the worst.

As if Clone Lana wasn't bad enough, we got Clone Lara. Oh, and did we mention that Clark is sneaking around behind Kara's back? Clark has been so UN-Supermanly these past two weeks that it sickens me.

We must be watching completely different shows because I think Clark is acting more Supermanly this season than ever before!!! :super:

QFT.

That's a huge part of the reason why my love for this show continues to grow. I see Clark growing closer and closer to the man he's destined to be - and I'm honestly at a point of not giving a crap about the damn flying. That will be AWESOME when it happens, but flying around isn't what really makes him Superman. It's all that stuff inside his head and his heart that separates him from the average man - just as much, if not more than his physical abilities.

I kept thinking of that Dane Cook skit when Zor-El kicked in the door. I wonder if John, & Matha wondered for years about why some one would kick in there door, but not take anything.

Heh, yeah. Maybe Zor-El came back with some tools ;P

I'm not sure if I mentioned this in my earlier rant already, but the one good thing in the character Lara was the fact that whereas Jor-El might've seemed strict and powerful, Lara certainly seems like someone that I could easily see acting as the kindness and the mercy in their union. She didn't seem like a strongwilled kryptonian, but I guess it hasn't been said that everyone would be. Just leaders like Jor-El, and Zor-El.

I liked this episode, but that may have something to do with seeing it right after Action which I despised so it must be like a lesser of two evils thing.

Anyway, I like Laura Vandervroot. I think she brings out the lesbian in me. I just like watching her. She's so pretty. Also she's way better dressed then in the first episodes. Was she not adorable in that pink t-shirt with the pony tail? I also liked her interaction with the other characters in the show, especially Clark and Jimmy. She's not being written as annoying as her comic book counter part and I'm immenesely grateful for that.

Lana setting up a foundation makes a lot more sense than her kidnapping Lionel. She's playing it like a smart powerful woman and not some two-bit crook with a grudge.

The whole DNA in the crystal thing... is stupid. I'm sorry, I'm not buying it. I could understand that Zor-El was in love with Lara and that's why the family was estranged, but placing her DNA in a crystal and then telling his daughter is the most important thing eva'? That's just plain silly. Another case of Smallville writers jumping the shark.

And I hope to God Clark isn't planning on cloning his mom.

I haven't been following this show to much. I just want to watch season 7 completely. I've seen a couple of episodes before, and I know Lionel Luthor was bad. When did he turn good? And why?

That is exactly what I am afraid is going to happen. He might not clone her, but Lana might, or someting. Either way she will probably be cloned.:whatever:

Lionel has always been ambiguous. The first time he turned "good" was after Season 4 Ep. 'Transference'. He and Clark switched bodies and after they switched back Lionel was healed from a deadly liver condition and felt like he must do good. Eventually that wore off.

I think he's been considered good after the Season 4 finale where Jor-El inhabited his body. Still though we (as the audience) don't know his true agenda.

I am assuming that Clark will take the DNA of Lara (within the blue crystal) and merge it with the Fortress (bringing it to life). Then he is able to talk to both his mother and father from time to time. I can't imagine he will attempt to clone her.

When Lionel said he was trying to help his son and Lex replied, "Which one?" I wasn't thinking as much about Lionel considering Clark his son. I was thinking about Lionel's body being inhabited by another being, Jor-El, and Kal-El being his son. So, Lion-El kinda does have 2 sons, n'est-ce pas?

Nice, i love it. I really really hope they go down that route instead of the cloning lara path.

I like the sound of that.

Bah, I didn't like the episode but I would not assume Clark has an intent to clone his mother. I'm sure like already stated it has to do with the FOS but the thing that bugs me is Clark acts so excited like he already knows what to do with it. He has no idea what it's for or how to use it yet at this point.

he knows that crystals can be used in the fortress so maybe, he thinks he can use the fortress to use the crystal.

Just taking this little bit from triplet's review.

Why would that goddess, still worshipped long after Egypt fell as a civilization, have meaning for Lana? Is she trying to be a mother to the meteor freaks? Or is Isis's ability to bring back the dead the reason Lana named the foundation after her? Usually the writers don't name things arbitrarily. Lex's Super Soldier project was named after the God of War, for example. So Lana naming her foundation after Isis is strange...

That sounds an awful lot like Chloe's ability. I wonder if Lana knows about Chloe's ability and wants her help, eventually, in running the organisation, or possibly even named it in honour of Chloe.

And I thought her office was decked out in a dusty pink not purple. :cwink:

Anyways, I'm only half way throught it... be back later. :yay:

Good stuff trip.

Interesting you brought up Lex's conversation about learning how to treat women from Lionel. To me that was another perefect example of Lex not making himself responsible for the person that he is. He's always ready to pass off his poor judgements and mistakes as someone elses's fault. Whereas in the same episode we had Clark taking blame and responsibility for Kara running off and getting into trouble even though Chloe was trying to point out to him that he isnt totally to blame.

Such a contrast between these two men.

I'm thinking Lana is focusing on Isis' ability to bring back the dead. I'm not sure if Lana knows about Chloe's ability or not - it doesn't seem so, but who knows. Could be we're not thinking back far enough. Lana knows that Lex can make clones - of Emily, of her, most likely of others. We don't know how much else she knows about Lex's projects other than his testing of meteor freaks. Perhaps Lana has started this foundation to "help" the meteor-infected... and to find one or more of them who can both revenge Lex's and Lionel's many insults AND - just perhaps - to help her to clone her parents (bring them back from the dead, in a way).

She has nothing to lose other than Clark - and in the "Wrath" preview it looks like worrying about losing Clark isn't her top priority.

:D

It looked purple to me and I don't think that Lana knows about Chloe's ability since Chloe lied about the reason she was at the Isis Foundation to begin with.

Interesting point, Clark is always feeling guilty for things that aren't his fault and Lex never does feel guilt even when he's done so many bad things.

It's always someone else that's to blame.

I don't know why Isis...

It's a weird choice but it might be foreshadowing something. What? I have no idea.

*shrug*

The first person that Isis brought back from the dead was her husband/brother (ewww), Osiris.

I wonder if that has any importance?

No matter what, it's just a strange choice.

In Smallville, we assume foreshadowing unless proven otherwise ;->

Ewww indeed. For Lana, who(m?) might that be? Her clone? Jason? Whitney? Crazy Tina??? Ugh.

True.

Yeah... I don't know.

It's just weird.

Although, someone PM'd me the explanation of clark's birth name.

It's Kryptonian for Star Child.

Kal = Child & El = Star

:D

It looked purple to me

I saw purple too, but there was also some pink there. I think it's just SV's way of showing us that this foundation is a combination of Lana's Luthorian revenge-seeking (evol) side, and her altruistic side. I love when they say things with color on this show. That never gets old for me.

There are two things that come to my mind. Isis possessed great magic - which reminds me that Lana at one time also possessed magic - Isis/Isobel?

Also, the concept of Isis being able to bring people back from the dead, could just be a very basic metaphor for the foundation restoring peoples previous (pre-meteor infected) lives back to them, or at least helping them to find new life with their infections.
