To mark his birthday tomorrow, what are your fave's of his, over the years....

Close Encounters of The Third Kind is my favorite Spielberg movie and it is the best movie to see in a theater.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Jaws
Jurassic Park
Lincoln
Minority Report
Munich
Raiders of the Last Ark
Saving Private Ryan
Schindler's List

The master.

Close Encounters -- still the greatest sense of wonder I've ever had from a mainstream film.

E.T. -- the only film that would consistently make me weep, if I wasn't so manly.

Raiders -- the classic adventure yarn.

Putting out A. I. Artificial Intelligence, Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can over the course of 18 months is an underrated and unheralded feat of great filmmaking.

Yes. A. I. : Artificial Intelligence is great. Fight me.

At the very least it is a unique and endless interesting intersection of two filmmaking heavyweights.

There's a few great movies of his that haven't been mentioned yet.

Duel, The Sugarland express, and Empire of the Sun.

I also saw the Terminal for the first time last week, it's an enjoyable little film.

The absolute favourite Spielberg film for me is none other than Close Encounter of the Third Kind, which incidentally is also the best early Speilberg film IMO. This film is among the series of mid to late 1970s films that I ranked high (top 5) on my list and all of them I saw on the opening night. The next best to follow are Jaws and E.T.

The best late Speilberg film IMO is Schindler's List, follow by Jurassic Park, and Munich.

Happy birthday, Mr. Spielberg!

He was the first director to get me interested in cinema as a kid. Had a lot of his films on VHS (still have all the Jurassic Park movies). There's a few of his movies I haven't seen yet that I really ought to, he's one of my favorite directors.

And I agree with the general sentiment on here that Close Encounters Of The Third Kind is an terrific movie. The last half hour is one of the best scenes in motion picture history, imo.

Bought myself the Collection box set on blu-ray for my birthday back in January and working my way through, such a brilliant film maker of such vision & texture. An absolute genius.

Among all the heralded classics he's given us over the years, I do have to include Tintin in there. The Performance Capture arena was something he hadn't quite involved himself in and the end result was superb. Some of the most breathtaking single takes in animation you'll ever see with your own eyes. :)

Jurassic Park easily. It was my first movie in a theater, and I've loved it ever since.

All the way, baby.

Loving my box set with all the documentaries & features, if you are a fan, would definitely recommend purchasing this.

Got myself a retrospective book for Christmas as a present to myself, goes upto Lincoln only but still definitely a good read thus far.

Will be interesting to see where Ready Player One ranks in his catalogue of films when released.

Building my Spielberg collection and got the platinum edition of Munich recently, its a film of his I've yet to see.

1. Raiders of the Lost Ark
2. Schindler's List
3. E.T.
4. Close Encounters
5. Jaws

Great edition of Empire magazine this month with a Spielberg special on his career, linking up to date with Ready Player One.

One of the best editions of Empire for months, they feel like they are on 'auto-pilot' for ages, but this month, it's a great read.

There are various cover versions, of SS's main films.

Schindler's List is his masterpiece. It's one of the greatest films ever made period, not just by Spielberg.

His hit rate is among the best for any director. He had very few 'bad' films, and even then, they are not 'bad' films, just not 'as good'.

He has a few that I would call bad. Indy 4, Lost World, and War of the Worlds I think were outright bad. But, that said...he's made way more good to great films and his influence on the industry is second to none.

Documentary on the making of Jaws....

Indy 4 is on Lucas, not him. Lost World tried 'too hard' and WOTW I think has it's moments. Okay, KOTCS is a bad film. :woot:

I go back and forth between Schindler's List and Catch Me If You Can as his best film.
