Spielberg In, Johnston Out of JP4?

Talk back in July had Steven Spielberg potentially taking over the reigns over the fourth "Jurassic Park" film, however the man himself at the time told SF Magazine that "Joe is my go-to 'Jurassic' guy now...So I'm a huge fan of Joe's, and he's the right guy to do the fourth one".

Then, Sky News apparently reported that Spielberg is eager to get it moving and may actually consent to direct the fourth installment himself if Johnston can't or won't do it. The film is slated for a 2008 release at present.

Now, Spielberg Films says the rumour is bull*****, what started the talk is that Joe Johnston has been offered (but has yet to accept) the helming job on a third "Mummy" film. Spielberg is unlikely to work on the film anyhow considering his slate already includes "Indiana Jones IV," the "Lincoln" biopic and "Interstellar".

I'm not sure what to believe.

I think Spielberg should do this movie! Don't you?

That movie would rock. Just put Samuel L. Jackson in it and call it "Dinosaurs who save the day." Make it rated R because we see a horn of a triceratops inahle one person from the back- ok, maybe I'm going too gruesome now. But, when that happens Samuel L. Jackson yells, "Yeah, take that you mother fckin' cartel boss! Great job stego, you really nailed that guy good."

Note the sarcasm. But, Samuel L. Jackson was already in a JP movie actually- a 'security guard' of a sort in the first film.

johnston still has first dibs, but has been offered Mummy 3 *which is where this rumour comes from*, but that doesnt necessarily conflict with JP4.....

I've been saying this for years.

Jurassic Park will never be good again. No Jurassic Park will ever live up to the first movie. So where should they take the franchise? Simple. Make a huge budget B-movie. It could turn out good. Snakes on a Plane was awesome afterall

I wish he does it in the end. Johnston just kinda messed up 3.

There was an awesome JP3 script that was leaked a while before 3 started filming. It was an awesome script. I wish that one would have been made.

1. John Hammond dead
2. The dinosaurs on Isla Nublar are all dead
3. In the end, all of the dinosaurs will eventually become extinct again

seriously though, i don't want another poor rehash of the first movie. either do something drastically different or don't make another one at all. i can honestly say i would be happy seeing a huge budget B-movie kind of story, and the dinosaur commando script actually sounded damn entertaining

JP3 proved that the Jurassic Park franchise didn't deserve to be continued.

Lost World was the first sign - not following the book and being made of pure cheese.

But JP3 was it - the franchise should just die.

JP4 would be great.....if they actually had a story and didnt just have dinosaurs chase people around for two hours. Even Steven Spielberg cant make that interesting after three movies.
