With that decision, it will make the Oscar race more interesting so that people can't wait to see which film make the cut; and it's good that they will select the films that most deserve to be nominated and therefore eliminating the other films that everyone knows has no chance at winning the Best Picture award.

A wise decision by the Academy, indeed.

I really didn't like the decision to go to 10 films, mostly because we knew both years which 5 films were the real contenders, and which ones were just filler, but this decision I like.

I still prefer 5 put but I could live with an interchangeable number each year.

Love it, means the best (or most liked) films will be nominated, even if there are more than 5. Could be problematic for those of us who like to predict nominations, but I guess we'll just have to play it safe and name 10.

This is indeed interesting. And smart because of those five other ones, how many votes did they get by the academy?

But you know, this could just turn into the regular five (usually predictable) nominees all over again.

Why isn't this being applied to director? The problems in the best picture category extend to best director, as evidenced in last year's nominations. Kudos for the Academy for making some sort of change and further improving upon the nomination process, but it still is like using a band aid instead of stitches. The other half of the problem is after the nominations, when all the bullspit takes over in the voting.

Since the Summer movie season is pretty much over, now let's focus on the fall and the Oscar push. Which movies do you see getting best picture? Which actors/actresses do you see getting a nod? How about other technical achievements like Score, cinemtography, etc.?

Discuss everything oscars here.

These are just guesses based off what I've seen so far. Sherlock Holmes might slip in one for music, since the last one had a goddamn FANTASTIC score.

Are those your picks or what you think will be nominated cause some of them I just don't see at all.

I have mentioned before that I work on Oscar predictions for years now, and i just updated my predictions for September:

HERE

there is an English version too.

Unfortunately, Tintin is not eligible for the Best Animated Feature category.

Really? Why? It comes out during Oscar season, and is an animated film.

And it can't be because of the date, because Holmes came out on Christmas and got an Original Score nod.

It's because the Academy don't count motion-capture as an animation technique.

No way gets a Best Nomination. Don't get me wrong, I think it'd be awesome if it got one, but that's a hell of a long shot.

Third Highest grossing movie of all time, plus raving reviews says otherwise.

People also said TS3 would never get a nomination. And there it was, alongside Inception, Kings Speech and other damn great films.

Potter might get the sympathetic nod and the fact that the academy has never recognized the series out side Special Effects. It's the end of an era and will get recognized. Plus with the expanded pics (allowing up to 10 nominees) selection it has an even better chance.

********. Rango was filmed in live action using the recorded dialogue from the live action performances in the film, and the actor's movements used as references for the animation. If Tintin can't get one, Rango shouldn't, because they basically did the same goddamn thing.

Not to mention, it should still be classified as an animated film. What matters isn't how it was animated, or the quality of the animation, it's the quality of the story.

Not to mention, it'd get a lot of ratings just for having it on the list. It's the highest Grossing franchise of all time. It made 8 billion dollars total with EIGHT GODDAMN MOVIES, adjusted for inflation. That's about a billion dollars made FOR EACH FILM. It beat out James Bond's record. Which has 23 films in the franchise.

Adding the massive reviews for it, and it's almost a certainty it'll get a nod. It won't win, I think, but it'll get a nod.

It's unfair for sure, but that's just how it is. I was disappointed when I found out about it too.

I'm not so sure it will get a nod due to the rule change again this year. A movie has to have a certain number of 1st place votes to get in. So the total nominees can be anywhere from 5 to 10.

*looks at first post of thread*

Lime, you are aware there is an 'h' in 'Three Musketeers', right?

Yeah, it's a nasty typo. I written it for the Art category and than copy-paste in the costumes. And the typo spreads like a cancer.

The Tree Musketeers
and
The Three of Life

:woot:
