9.1 - Savior - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

totally they should have made it back in season 4 a power he can use as clark and not the whole it was kalel not clark. But then clark only uses it sparely from time to time when its called for.

Forget the flying, I wanna know what's this all about:

And watch out for Lois' scary dream sequence at the end of the episode: there's sex, sweat, blood and death.

We had the sex and sweat part figured out, but blood and death?

maybe it has to do with zod, that future kryptonian chick and her reasons for traveling back in time. Or maybe a factor in with the change in the timeline caused by saving chloe/and the doomsday stuff. Clark's future was changed and maybe down the road he became more rouge or something.

Maybe Clark dies in the future, or people in general, Zod being responsible of it.

Do people forget that for years, in the early comics, that as an adult, Clark didn't fly at all but super-jumped?

Considering how much they take from the Golden/Silver age Superman, this shouldn't be that surprising.

honestly, I'm just glad that they addressed the flying situation and Clark really does want to fly, it's just some sort of internal struggle. Everybody knew he wasn't going to fly anytime soon so I don't know what's the problem here...

I don't see the problem, that sounds like a good time to me...

I see no real problem either with the holding on flying. Sure i want to see it and all that. But i know their is alot of reasons behind the scenes why it doesnt happen and only has on special occusions and all that. Cant wait to see how things turn out.

James in Pocatello, Idaho: Smallville spoilers, please.

Doesn't it feel like yesterday Smallville premiered for the first time? Here we are eight years later, with the season nine premiere on Sept. 25. How time flies. But we've digressed. We watched the season premiere and must say a couple things: First of all, Team Smallville isn't messing around with the special effects. It looks like they pulled out all the stops (and the budget) on this sweet, first episode. Also, all of you Lois lovers will be happy to know Erica Durance (Lois Lane) is interwoven throughout many storylines and is front and center during most of the show. Set three weeks after the events of the finale, Clark (Tom Welling) is training to be Superman and is struggling with leaving his humanity behind. He's frustrated with his inability to fly, but is told by trainer Jor-El it's because, "You still see yourself as a human." Meanwhile Clark's relationship with Chloe (Allison Mack) is downright rocky, while he remains obsessed with Lois. Lois doesn't have a clue where she was for the last three weeks, but when she returns it's in the company of a freaky Kryptonic-ninja lady from the future who's out to get Clark. And watch out for Lois' scary dream sequence at the end of the episode: there's sex, sweat, blood and death.

I'm very excited this episode sounds like it's going to be a superb Season Premiere and the start of a great season that lies ahead .

3 Days left to go :super:

I agree Kal, this season is sounding very much fantastic.

the red, blue, yellow, and green hurts my eyes. :csad:

Exactly my point. It's not so bad that he doesn't fly yet. Superman didn't fly for years in the comics when he first appeared.

We'll get flight at some point, and maybe not until the finale, but flight isn't necessary either.

You are accurate that he did not fly but then again he did not have Supergirl who flew or every other Kryptonian flying. My main isssue is how he cannot fly when everyone else can. Your logic does not work in the Smallville universe because they made it so every other Kryponian can fly except for him which was never the case during the Golden Age.

It is really not that important because that is the decision they made with this character a while ago. And he is just an elseworlds version of Superman which has many differences with other versions of the same character. I enjoy the show for what it is but I certainly do not think they can justify it by referring to the comics.

Zod looks awesome. Poor Tess though. She looks all beaten up.

saw those clips myself a few hrs ago. Pretty good, man cant wait for friday to come.

I hate that they won't let Clark fly till the end of the show, but the logic that the writers are using does work in the show. Jor-El's explanation for why Clark can't fly is that Clark still sees himself as human. All the other aliens who could fly didn't have this disability.

Frankly I see all the times they let other kryptonian appear and fly on the show as an insult, dangling the carrot in front of us and showing they could do it but instead letting other characters do it instead, its ridiculous. If you wont let Clark fly because of some misguided belief that doing so would make him Superman then don't act like ***** and let everyone else and their mother fly instead.

At least this has nothing to do with his fear of heights like it was mentioned previously. I can handle Jor-El's excuse because it fit's in the overall story arc of the series .

"Before the legend… before the icon… there was a teenager named Clark Kent (Tom Welling). Someday, he’ll master his powers and understand his true calling. For now, he just has to get through adolescence. This new interpretation of the enduring Superman mythology and its classic characters blends realism and adventure into an exciting action series.
Clark doesn’t wear glasses, there’s no suit and he can’t fly. Not yet, anyway. Between the boy he thought he was and the man he is destined to become are the stories of "Smallville."

Sooner or later Clark will wear the glasses, is a matter of time.

I love Geoff Johns concept for The Glasses from Superman : Secret Origins # 1 . That would've been an awesome idea for the tv series, if only Clark hadn't already destroyed his space ship .

I know everyone is annoyed about Clark not flying, I am too, but this is Smallville we're talking about here everyone. Clark has yet to master all of his powers yet, he's finally training with Jor-El, he's wearing the S, lets just be happy with that for now.

Now as to the flight thing, unless we've all forgotten Clark HAS flown before. He's floated in his sleep, he flew in Crusade. When he did fly he was KAL-EL, he saw himself as an alien not human. What the producers are saying makes perfect sense. Clark has always wanted to be like everyone else, human. In many instances, and its been said in the comics before that Lois makes him feel more human than he could ever imagine, that it would be Lois that would be the last obstacle that's keeping him from being able to take flight seems only right.

Recently in the One Year Later Superman UP UP AND AWAY story its shown that perhaps the reason it took his powers one whole year to return is that without his knowledge he was psychologically repressing them. And when they did return all he could really do was super jump until he could as he said "kick start his powers." It was also shown in Spider-Man The Other that for his entire superhero career Peter was repressing a lot more powers because he was psychologically afraid of what they'd be and what they'd turn him into.

So what Smallville is doing isn't that hard to understand, and I do understand why their doing it. It would be nice to see him fly in the last episode in the fight against Zod this season, and for him to chase him around the globe, but it may not happen.

Callum(not sure if i spelled his name right) sounds pretty awesome in that clip. I wish he buffed up a bit tho, he looks a bit skinny.

I too am annoyed that he hasnt flown or at least tried to fly. I mean, imagine if you knew you had the ability to fly. Wouldnt u be sitting in your house trying to hover or something? or just constantly be jumping off your roof? At least give us that, show us that hes actually trying to fly. Supposedly thats what they will do in the premiere, but i feel that it'll be a one time thing. He'll jump off the roof of that skyscrapper, hit the ground and then never try to do it again for the rest of the season. and the producers will view this as addressing this problem that fans have of him not learning.

jason you do bring up some very good points. Also a great john/lois scene at the planet.
