9.1 - Savior - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I know everyone is annoyed about Clark not flying, I am too, but this is Smallville we're talking about here everyone. Clark has yet to master all of his powers yet, he's finally training with Jor-El, he's wearing the S, lets just be happy with that for now.

Now as to the flight thing, unless we've all forgotten Clark HAS flown before. He's floated in his sleep, he flew in Crusade. When he did fly he was KAL-EL, he saw himself as an alien not human. What the producers are saying makes perfect sense. Clark has always wanted to be like everyone else, human. In many instances, and its been said in the comics before that Lois makes him feel more human than he could ever imagine, that it would be Lois that would be the last obstacle that's keeping him from being able to take flight seems only right.

Recently in the One Year Later Superman UP UP AND AWAY story its shown that perhaps the reason it took his powers one whole year to return is that without his knowledge he was psychologically repressing them. And when they did return all he could really do was super jump until he could as he said "kick start his powers." It was also shown in Spider-Man The Other that for his entire superhero career Peter was repressing a lot more powers because he was psychologically afraid of what they'd be and what they'd turn him into.

So what Smallville is doing isn't that hard to understand, and I do understand why their doing it. It would be nice to see him fly in the last episode in the fight against Zod this season, and for him to chase him around the globe, but it may not happen.

Very good points sir. Up, up, and away is a perfect example of how Clark can repress his powers without even realizing it, and I always figured that Clark not flying yet was a mental thing where he is essentially repressing his ability due to his fighting his Kryptonian heritage, and essentially that's what it looks like they'll be explaining. Good for them.

I'm ok with it though, as he does super jump periodically and it shows that he has some control over his ability, just not full blown flight yet.

I'm ok though if they wait until the final season or series finale to add in full blown flight by Clark.

I hate that they won't let Clark fly till the end of the show, but the logic that the writers are using does work in the show. Jor-El's explanation for why Clark can't fly is that Clark still sees himself as human. All the other aliens who could fly didn't have this disability.

I did not say the Smallville logic does not work. What I stated and this was why there were two paragraphs that their logic cannot be justified by referring to the golden age of comics where Superman did not fly.

It is justified by they way they portray the character even though I do not really agree with it.

that clip was good. I wonder when Clark comes back to the DP? Maybe in Metallo?

Yea cant wait for tomorrow night. As for clark going back to the dp i do wonder when that is going to happen. Then the whole thing with clark/lois in that later on episode of the season.

Canadian trailer (with Clark falling from the Statue of Liberty trying to fly!):

Even if the excuse for not flying is lame, at least Clark tries and is frustrated by it, which is nice to see.

i was wondering if we were going to get this canadian trailer we heard of last few days. I wonder why the statue of liberty is in the episode. is it in metropolis or is clark in nyc for some reason. Cant wait to find out.

What the **** why are the Canadian trailers so bada$$, that was amazing. The Red \S/ in the back behind the text is a great touch, and what up with statue of liberty? Crazy stuff.

He could be in Gotham, remember the Statue of Liberty was in Gotham (acourding Batman Forever) lol

well it wasnt the statue of liberty in batman forever it was statue of ....... i dont remember off hand. We will know in 24 hrs.

that would be since we only gotten it mentioned by name twice, and knightwing's city once.

so taking bets guys, the statue of liberty. Will it be clark in nyc for some reason? Or smallville guys trying to pass it off as a landmark in metropolis?

Thatd be cool if he was in Gothamm
Yeah you know, since Batman isn't around yet, Gotham needs that dark, grungy looking superhero to fill the void and Clark looks like he can certainly acomplish that job going by his new attire

yea i see it being that too, though of all things to be trying to fly off. Whats the point in doing a statue of liberty landmark in metropolis now. When it could have easily been the exterior of the daily planet, exterior of watchtower building, or any other regular old building.

So Smallville is on Fridays now? Thought I missed it tonight.

has been for past two months or so for reruns. But yea friday's is smallville's new home.
