Comics A Darker Spider-Man?

I enjoyed the dark stories being written in the 90's such as "The Shrieking" (One of the best Spider-man stories I've read". In that storyline Spider-man was very dark so I didn't mind that at all. I thought it was handled beautifully.

At the end of the day though, Spider-man is essentially a light hearted character that tries his hardest to make the best out of the worst situations. While I don't mind a Dark Spider-man moment here and there...thats just not who the character is or was meant to be.

Of course but Regret and redemption is nothing new to Spider-Man fans

Todd Mcfarlane Dark (the spidey that would throw a samurai Sword in the Juggernauts eye.

Just fyi, that was Shatterstar who did that. Or do you mean you want the books to be as dark as that?

I discovered Spider-Man in the 1970's, so while I agree a dark Spidey tale is often good, seeing him pushed to the edge and then pushing back, that's not who Spidey is for me.
Hey he's SPIDEY!!! how dark can you be with a fun nickname like that!!!
Sure Pete's always had his troubles, but putting on the costume and swinging around the city trashing muggers was an escape for him.
Also why I like the Red and Blues better than the Symbiote costume.

I will be interested to see how Spider-man REIGN plays, as this is suppossed to feature a cliched more 'dark' Spider-man.

Anyone know the street date for this?

Just wondering what you think of a Darker Spider-Man

Sometimes Spidey has to get dark. Example, Kravens Last Hunt. Sometimes you're going to get dark tales and sometimes you're going to get light hearted tales, Spider-Man/Human Torch miniseries.

What makes Spider-Man a great character is that even within the darkness there is always a light.

And writers who handle the character and balance out the light and the dark usually have great runs. It's probably why JMS isn't exactly the most popular guy around here because most of his run has been of a dark nature.

It didn't really help going from Romita Jr.'s art to Deodato's artwork either...but you know.

Spider-Man is not simply a 'light' or 'dark' character. There's more to him than that. That's one of the reasons he is such a great character. He can be as grim as Batman or as positive as Superman, and everything in between.

I want the Charlie Brown version of Spider-Man to return. The guy who never seems to catch a break but still remains a light in the midst of the darkness. The guy who finds it in him to make light of any mess he finds himself in. I miss the guy who was a friend (not a lap dog) to everybody even when his whole world is falling apart around him by different villians and situations that weren't all orchestrated by Norman Osborn's over kill.

I long for the responsible Peter Parker that was caring and concerned about his friends and whoever else was in need and didn't just react to whatever Spider-Man obsessed character made him do this month.

The Kraven's Last Hunt type stories are great when they come out of nowhere but not a cheap ploy to make Spider-Man more "hip" to the current fad.Give me a Spider-Man who fights the insurmountable odds and always finds a way to come out on top in the end.

No Spider-Man was actually the one that was susposed to do that but they told Todd Spidey couldint do that.

A very light Spider-Man's my favorite. Sorta Fantastic Four, JLI-ish quality to it. Granted, on the whole, darker, and more serious stuff is needed with Spider-Man, but I find the stories I enjoy most, are the light, semi-comedic ones.

It didn't work in the mid-90s, it won't work now. Spider-Man is at his best when he's a lighthearted character bouncing around mid-battle, mixing acrobatics with stand-up comedy.

Early 90's adjectiveless Spidey worked.

What kind of choices are those!?!?

Lighter does NOT mean Iron-Man's side-kick. Geeze.

Have to agree with Kevin and SpideyInATree (I wonder if that is one of the signs of the APOCALYPSE...?) :)

I just can't choose ANY of those choices...lol.....the "light ones" also include "happy about being irom man's tool currently" and "happier abotu loving iron man" basically. I read them over multiple times and none of them work! A happy spider-man doenst' mean he is gonan frolick in the daisies with iron man....that's just bad writing, period.

Nor do i want to see some whacked out dark brooding spider-man either.

I expect him to be darker in some stories, such as if Joey Q. murders his wife MJ, i hope he'd be dark and totally torked off...especially to jump out of the panel to wring JQ's neck.

Otherwise, Spidey is typically down to earth and upbeat....but as circumstances allow he is open to mood swings....if reasonable.

Yeah but he is doing that thats why I put it! With the Todd Mc Dark he could Still be the joking Spider-Man but he's just not going to let himself be Tony's lap dog or beat on because he's scared of hurting his enemy. (he might actually win some fights!)

Also with the The Animated Series - Black Costume Dark he was still coming up with one liners

Your opinion was CLEAR by the way you worded the questions, which is what made it a POOR poll.

But don't feel too bad, you did what so many pollsters do, by trying to ask the questions in such a way to get the results you want.
