a little english help

I would really suggest you go back to college for a semester or two and take some english cases.

To try to teach kids without fully understanding their spoken language is just irresponsible, IMO.

CConn is right. You'd be better off going to an actual college, instead of looking up some online courses. You'll learn better that way because you'll be exposed to the language.

I am not agree with you

cuzz i know the language but i just need to learn the grammar

i have my degree i am prepare besides i will take this year to finish this language

i want to have 90% of english and i am also a teacher in elementary school here in mexico therefore i don't have to know the complete language jus the basics

now that i know that i wanna get a job in the usa the next year i will get more knowledge

as you can see i have grammar mistakes in this forum but iin 1 year i know i can be better ;)

Successful troll was successful.

I hope.

Before I say anything, why don't I just send you a comparative essay and we'll see if you can at least comprehend what it's about? There's no point in trying to teach a language you don't fully understand. A lot of my family members came to Canada and the United States thinking College wasn't required to receive jobs in what they had their degrees in because they had already done the schooling in another language and environment. The truth is the ones who didn't go back to school ended up either working in Pizza stores, working in retail or working as Taxi drivers. The ones that do college in Canada or the USA became VERY successful as they had experience in multiple environments.

Learning the local language is VERY important but it isn't the only thing needed. You must also adapt to this new environment (without totally forgetting your old one) so that you can apply better teaching methods in the surroundings you end up working in. You can't teach American kids the way you teach Mexican kids and vice versa because they live in different worlds (or so to speak); you can however learn and master both ways and come up with your own method of teaching (that differs not only from country to country but also from class to class) so that you can be a better teacher and so that the children will receive better education (which should be your goal in this occupation above your own personal gains).

Instead of thinking of your self and the time you could potentially have spent making money, think of the kids and think of giving them the best education they could receive. My teachers who cared for the students actually taught us valuable lessons and the teachers who were completely apathetic to us everyone forgot about.

You asked for advice and we're giving you our opinions. You mustn't be insulted by our constructive criticism my friend.

Yeah...In high school, I had a chemistry teacher who was from India. While technically he understood English, he could hardly speak it, and it was a daily struggle to understand each other. Lets put it this way, the communication was so bad, instead of calling us by our names, he assigned us all numbers (i was "Nummaten"). Needless to say, no one learned anything in the class and it was a very stressful year.

Point of the story: make sure you have a THOROUGH grasp of the langauge you will be teaching in. Especially if you are going to be an elementary school teacher, you need to read/write/listen/talk in english as good as or better than a native. Anything less will ultimately hurt the students' ability to learn, especially at such a young age.

Why don't you want to teach in your own country? (just curious)

I went into an engineering school, a lot of my teachers were Indian or Asian and I had to strain sometimes to understand them. For any of my liberal arts type classes, usually the teacher had a solid grasp of English and Grammar.

Either way, country to country, province/state to province/state, city to city, school to school and even class to class you'll need to teach every one of your classes differently. The teachers that never taught me anything that stuck were the teachers that would generalize us all as just kids. You need to be able to accommodate every class individually.

I don't think that we are misunderstanding you. We understand that you have studied to be a teacher and want to teach in the USA, but you are aware that you need to comprehend English to do so.

We are merely expressing how important your understanding of, and the ability to speak English is for your desired career in this country. We aren't saying you won't be a good teacher, or that you don't have the best intentions. We're just trying to cement the importance of your goal of speaking English fluently, because like you, a good education is important to us.

Unless I missed it, you hadn't explained what Harmon Hall was, so I had to research it. Not finding an English version of the site, I had to (attempt) to remember my spanish classes from high school. Is this a school primarily for teaching how to speak English? Is it a school for teachers, or just a "learn a new language here" night class?

I believe you when you say you know you can do it and that you have the students' best interest in mind. No one is saying anything to the contrary. We're just hoping you fully understand the importance of the language for young kids in school. Its not some thing you can half-ass like at McDonalds, ya know?

Good luck with your work and knee surgery!
