after ben affleck was cast as a 40 yr old batman, i realized that RDjr was cast as ironman at age 42 and that hugh jackman has been doing wolverine for 12 yrs now

I got zero problems with it. Alot of these characters become more interesting with maturity. Plus all those you mentioned look younger then their actual ages imo. Depends on the character.

Someone on these boards was just complaining about too many young pretty boys getting roles instead of older looking tough guys.

I have no problem with actors from 30 and upwards.
But people will surely have issues if the character is female :(

why? a lot of iconic superheroes are in their mid 40's and up anyways

Amy Adams was 38 in MoS and I never head one word about her being too old. FTR, she's 8 years older than Cavill. Paltrow's in her 40's by now and still looks great.

I'd say mid-30's is ideal but there's nothing wrong with them being in their 40's.

I have no problem with it, as long as they do a good job with the role and they still look good for their age.

I referred to superheroes

In a couple of the casting threads -- I recall Wonder Woman specifically -- guys were saying that no woman older than 25 should be cast as a superheroine because they'd be too old. That's a common attitude towards actresses.

I'm pretty sure Margot Kidder was older than Christopher Reeve too.
