For about the last 15 years, something has really bugged me in mainstream cinema.

Male child actors' hairstyles. Anyone notice this trend: Every single young male actor who isn't a teenager has that stupid 90's mop of hair look.

It's in almost every. Single. Movie.

On every. Child. Actor.

I first noticed it on Eric Lloyd during THE SANTA CLAUSE and have loathed its overuse ever since. And it seems to me that when kids have DIFFERENT hair than this "go to" look, they're actually generally very good child actors. It's like producers and directors go "That kid's not a very good actor...give him that goofy haircut, that'll distract audiences".

I feel like if I saw this haircut more in real life it wouldn't bother me so much, but rarely do I see it on actual children. Maybe I just live in the wrong part of the world or something.

I dunno, anyone ever notice this?

EDIT: Crap. I meant to post this in the films board.

Oh no, this hair style is really popular in this area. Although I think we've finally hit a turning point. There is less of the shaggy-I've-been-stranded-in-the-woods, and more of a structured style.

Hopefully Hollywood will follow suit.

You know whose hair sucks, the kid from Liar Liar.

It's the 'Kids These Days/Socks with Sandals Without the Irony/Keeping Your Football' Thread

another sign of hollywoods corruption and moral degeneracy

The OP never lived through the late 70's/early 80's long hair phase. He needs to check out the average episode of 8 IS ENOUGH or CHIPS. He'd die of a heart attack.

It gets worse. They use strange terms like "far out" and "groovy"

kids today just have shaggy hair, and that's fine by me. I used to have shaggy hair though I've cutting it clearer on the sides. But it still has a stylized bedhead look.

Now, it's a mix between close cut fades on the sides with a long top (Macklemore), clean in general (kinda like Henry Cavil's preppy timeless look in Man from UNCLE) or messy but sexy hipster type. There's a good variety me thinks.

Shaggy hair to me reminds me of skateboarders and surfers, and since I live in LA, it's just THE look for today's youth. It's always been like that.

I almost didn't watch the Karate Kid remake because I hate the corn row haircut, especially on kids. Glad I watched it though.

This is where a picture is needed in the OP.

The worst thing about the Phantom Menace was Anakin's haircut.:o

someone post more mop top pics and what movie it comes from.. I can' think of any right now.

But I think there's a difference between a bowl/mop top and shaggy Californian style hair. The bowl cut is more deliberate with the sides and bangs.

I see this haircut all the time in real life. Perhaps it was more prevalent in the 90's, I'll give you that.

I would rather have the mop top than that 'spiked all over including the sides look'. It was such a punk thing in the 70's and the 90's killed it during the 'Nu Metal' era.

What about the kid from KaZaam...

that..hair.... :o
