ABC's "No Ordinary Family"

Perhaps he's only invulnerable to an impact he sees coming.

He was able to catch the bullet when he was facing the gun, and the baseballs when he was facing the launcher, but the shot from behind didn't allow him to 'prepare his body' for the impact.

They repeating the pilot tonight at 9 pm, check your listing

The pilot was good but I felt it should have been a little longer. It just seemed as if some of the story was missing.

Meh. HIGHly derivative, rushed, and poorly acted if you ask me. Also, this is clearly not an "Ordinary Family" even without the superpowers. I don't know too many "Ordinary" families that live in houses as nice as theirs or take private planes out of the country.

And Michael Chicklis as a 'Failed Painter"....I don't quite buy that.

I've seen worse, but the whole thing seems too blatantly one part Heroes, one part Incredibles. About 3-4 years late too.

What exactly is Chicklis' character's job? Is he a cop? It seemed like he wasn't allowed to go out on the streets and investigate. I didn't quite catch what does.

IIRC, he's a police sketch artist.

Most families with one parent working as a researcher for a major drug company would have a house that nice. And when was it ever said that they took a private plane out of the country? They took an arial tour of the rainforest in an old rust bucket when they got to Brazil, but I don't recall it being implied that they didn't fly commercial.

I agree about the pacing, though. If the premier had been spread out across two hours instead of one, I think we'd have had a chance to get to know the characters a lot better.

Not just a researcher. A Vice President of the company as well. :o

I personally know a VP of a major utility company, and his house was at least as nice as the Powell's, and I'm sure he doesn't make as much as pharmaceutical execs do.

I know plenty of families with houses that nice, and the parents usually just have jobs like computer programmer or therapist.

But having a home that nice isn't ordinary.

My point is that they're trying to portray this family as "just like everyone else" with the same "problems" everyone else has, and they have to deal with these new powers on top of it all, when it seems, money, the most 'popular' problem to have, doesn't seem to be an issue at all.

Being the VP of a large pharmaceutical company and living in an upwards of 6 to 7 figure home are not traits of an 'ordinary' family. Thus, the premise that they are "No Ordinary Family" only because they have superpowers is a little off in my opinion.

That's actually a good point. They are a lot more well off than the "ordinary family." that's for sure.

Aren't you just digging a *wee* bit too much into this?

If anything, it's closer to comic book reality than we can get without actually having DC or Marvel directly involved. Notice how EVERYONE who counts seems to be rich in the comics? How they can build these ultra-mega-expensive devices for themselves without having to worry about the accounting? This is actually a good thing, because with their money and Stephanie's resources, this opens up the story to these possibilities that a family that doesn't have a VP for a parent can't possibly get.

Man that Teleporter fight was pretty cool.

The pilot was okay. Not a huge fan of Julie Benz, but I'm a fan of Chiklis(I even liked his portrayal of Ben Grimm/The Thing). Both kids are annoying, lol.

I'm interested to seeing how many more people are out there with abilities. I predict a conspiracy....

And the villains seem to be Reverend Camden and Detective William LaMontagne Jr., haha...what a great combo.

The kids are a little over the top and I think they could have done a better job casting the son who really looks out of place.

As for Stephen Collins, he will forever be Jake Cutter to me. They need to give him an evil dog with an eye patch for this show. :awesome:

My gf and I watched the pilot the other nite and we both really enjoyed it. I called the sons power as soon as they said he was remedial though lol That fight with the teleporter surprised the hell outta me but at least we now know that there are other people with powers. And was that Callum Blue??? It looked like him but I wasnt sure

Besides being financially secure they are still like every other family. Money is not the route of every ordinary familys problems.

If they were poor like Spider-Man, then they'd be using their powers for money, only to eventually come to terms with the Uncle Ben quote at some point. They are well off now, but Jim already wants to use his powers to help people. Don't know what the rest of them will want to do yet.

I think you're nit picking. BEsides, families have other, much more interesting for television problems than not having money.

Well, Jim wanting to be a crimefighter and wanting to sound like Superman, you'd think he would have an idea of having a costume.

Haha, so true man, so true. Good observation.

They're no ordinary family because they don't have to call Comcast and ask if they can set up a payment plan for their past due internet service. :csad:

Its a good start. The characters are endearing and the two leads, Benz, and Chikilis are good. Malco is also a solid supporting character. The kids need to be recast, however. The Collins reveal was a bit easy to see coming, but aside from that it was a decent pilot.
