So as you may or may not know, a few years back DC Direct attempted to make some Action figures Based on the Watchmen....(Dr Manhatten, The Comeian and Silk Spectre) But they were cancelled because Alan Moore did not approve them.

http://www.toymania.com/sdcc2000/dcdirect.shtml

Scroll Down a little bit and you'll see them.

Anyway, so what I am wondering, is are we going to see action figures based off of the film?

Idealy I would love to see Neca do some figures for this (Like they did for 300) but realistically since the movie is a DC property action figure rights will be awarded to Mattel.....but this film might be a little more Adult than what Mattel wants to make.

There woudl still be possibility for DC Direct to pick up the reigns and make something.......but would figures based off of the film still need Alan Moore's Approval?

Will we see any Statues/Busts/Figures based off of the Watchment movie where we have seen none based off of the Comic?

Alan Moore really needs to chill out. Seriously, Watchmen action figures would be awesome.

Alan Moore doesn't need to approve

there are probably very few watchmen fans who wouldn't want to own a rorschach action figure. it would be pretty much the coolest thing ever. a removable cloth mask variant. awesome.

wait, he needs aprooval for action figures but not for a movie?

I bet you they will, they talk about making figures in the book remember? I wouldn't be suprised if they sold those, actually that would be pretty cool if they were "brought to you by Veidt industries" also am I the only want who wants a Rorsharch mask that IS NOT MADE OF PANTY HOSE AND WHITE TEE SHIRT!!!!

no youre not. i want one pretty bad here.

Usually they don't get all 3 of them right---The movie, the toys, and the video game. One will ALWAYS suffer. But these toys look pretty good!

And let Alan Moore be...the guy is a genius and entitled to his snobby opinion. I love the guy's work and totally see where he's coming from. Don't forget Bill Watterson NEVER marketed Calvin and Hobbes beyond the book compilations, and he doesn't catch nearly as much crap as Moore does.

Good point. Alan Moore and Bill Watterson have a similar outlook when it comes to their work, and how the message on the page should not be sullied by product marketing or other visual mediums. The difference is that Bill Watterson has had very tight control on his work, and has been able to successfully fight off plans to license his work, and now owns all rights. Alan Moore has not had that same "luxury." To Moore, seeing his work turned into movies or anything else is probably the same emotion that runs through Watterson's head when he sees those awful bootleg car stickers of Calvin pissing: disrespect to the spirit of the created art. The situations are not exactly the same (comic strip vs story/novel), but it's an interesting parallel nonetheless.

That proposed DC Direct range was going to coincide with the 15th birthday of WATCHMEN, along with a brand spanking new deluxe hardback edition (the first since the Graphitti Designs release from the late 80s which now fetches megabucks on eBay).

But since neither Moore NOR Gibbons felt much like partying at the time thanks to their ongoing feud with DC over being screwed outta the WATCHMEN rights, the whole idea was scrapped and both projects were shelved, so as not to attract attention to the creators' grievances.

Of course, we've since had the superb ABSOLUTE WATCHMEN released to coincide with the twentieth anniversary instead... and Gibbons certainly seems on-board as far as the movie goes, what with his exclusive Comic Con teaser poster and Zack talkin' like the two of 'em are best buds...

I'd say that some kind of tie-in merchandising range (be it action figures or collectors busts, etc.) is probably on the cards, no?

Snyder's already spoken previously about the video game adap, after all...

He Does from Me.

give me action figures of the watchmen or face my unfaceable wrath.thats unfaceable.so you cant face it.thats why its called my unfaceable wrath.not the somewhat faceable wrath.its the unfaceable wrath.and you cant face it.so dont try.pls?:csad:

Watchmen Legends....a 12 inch Dr. Manhattan could be a Build-A-Figure.

Yeah. I'm more worried about a Watchmen "game" ..... Seems almost a perversion. And likely to suck, too. I hope they refrain from the game idea if it comes up.

Now, Action Figures? HELL YES!!!!

I usually don't collect figures but I would definitely get these especially a Nite-Owl one.:yay:

wow! Walter Kovacs(the shh member, not the actual character) has the best avatar!

that was really random, but yeah anyways..i'd love a dr. manhattan toy. haha, i can imagine like different variations; when u line them up, he just keeps stripping until he's completely naked.

Alan Moore is really good at guilt-tripping his fans at times (me when I heard they were making the Watchmen I was like, "Oh ****, this is really gonna twist his tit"). Action figures would be a bit too much. But if they do make them they should make a Alan Moore line or something, because I want a V action figure.:woot: :o

wait, they made v for vendetta figures, why would he have a problem with watchmen?
