The end battle in Avatar for sure. It was by and far a much more complicated and epic affair than any other sequence I can think of that I witnessed this year.

This. I love epic action scenes, but very rarely are they directed with finesse at the complement of spectacle. Cameron takes this crown for me, hands down.
