The Force Awakens Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

I felt like Driver conveyed emotion with his body language even with his mask on.

That scene with Snoke, [BLACKOUT]there's this straightening and tension in Kylo's posture when Snoke brings up Han, and then there's too big of a pause before he says Han means nothing to him[/BLACKOUT].

when Han calls him Ben on the bridge, you could sense it cut right through him, great acting my Adam Driver even wit the mask on :cwink:

Yes. Yes it did. Han saying that took me by surprise.

Aside from Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver was the stand-out.

Driver did a great job channeling a real tormented soul. Some real spastic moments which I thought conveyed his volatility.

I loved him. Such a different kind of villain. I just loved the Stormtroopers reaction in that one scene...

I thought Driver was a mixed bag. His line readings and acting were much better than, say, Hayden Christensen. He was suitably intimidating with the mask on, but not so much without it.

He's a different villain, no doubt. But I'm not impressed.

That was entirely the point. I thought it was great that under the mask he was just some guy, almost childlike. It was somewhat reminiscent of Vader removing his mask, showing the vulnerable man underneath.

I was blown away by Driver in this performance. His eagerness and desire to be more powerful than he already is. His impatience, his conflict within himself. His arrogance and over confidence. He is so different from Vader and it's wonderful. He's not just a Vader replacement. He is such a wonderful and intriguing villain. That's one of the biggest things the PT was missing.

So, here's a theory.

That thing that Kylo/Ben wants to finish that Vader started? Bringing balance to the Force. He has somehow heard of the prophecy, and thinks that wiping out the Jedi was the way to do it, and is now trying to finish that, and Snoke is egging him on for his own ends.

This was a great new villain that retraced Darth Vader, but created a much more conflicted and psychologically troubled persona. Which in a way makes him far more unlikable. Vader was a badass, but Kylo Ren is so indecisive it makes the evil things he does so much worse.

Forget Snoke, we just need more of this guy as the main baddie next time.

Dude was pretty much what we probably should've gotten from Anakin in the PT. He was pretty fun to watch.

Was I the only one thinking of Piccolo whenever he took off is seemingly heavy helmet?

So you guys think he can be redeemed?

It's hard for me to see it after what he did...

I find him oddly.... sexy? Just me? Okay...

I hope Rey handles him the way his Grandaddy handled Count Dooku...

Were you responding to me?

Of course I have more thoughts about Kylo overall. I just had to get that off my chest. :woot:

When my fangirl haze is over I'll be able to type more coherent thoughts.

So again, it's all still processing but am I remembering this correctly:

Luke was attempting to re-establish the Jedi Order, Ben was one of the padawan learners and was seduced to the dark side by what's his face. Realizing his mistake, Luke drops the whole thing and goes into exile.

I am still confused by Leias line where she told Han something along the lines of, "We should've let him go with Luke."

Was he not?

Oh no! :0 see the response above.

I also think he was a dude who comes from a normal background. Didn't have the grades to go to the university he wanted to go to..then joined the marines after 9/11. Studied at Juliard, and here he is. I respect that.

Kylo/Ben was very cool. I've heard others criticize him for being "whiny" and "channeling Hayden Christensen," but I can't come to agree with them. I think what made him so unique were his struggle to control his emotions and his powers and general technique being rather sloppy, which really gives him humanity.

He's basically as others have mentioned, what Anakin would've been had he not been burnt to a crisp...

With the exception being that Anakin would be far more powerful.

Man the saber fights were amazing.
Love how he used his cross guard on Finn when he had him up against the tree

Adam Driver is what I deem 'ugly handsome'. He has a unique face (and ears) that it does a 360, making him..handsome.

Driver's huge ears are never seen in this movie. They're covered by his long hair, thankfully.
