God..I love Kristen Stewart...ever since her sexy cameo in Jumper and Into the Wild.

I think the problem with this is that it is a total bait and switch film. The trailers make it out to be a comedy akin to Superbad and the rest we've gotten, when in reality it is much more a serious indy type of film.

I still enjoyed it and at times found myself to be the only one laughing at lines/songs/jokes etc.

["Oh no, it's the Vietcong! I need supressive fire!"]

One of my big problems though is Kristen Stewert. One of the worst actress's going today. All she does is look like she has a hidden secret just bursting to get out and run her hand threw her rats nest of a hairdo. Thats it. Thats all. Ever.

I saw it recently, and I agree...it is bait and switch. I was expecting a comedy and really, the only comedic character was Bill Hader and the friend. Still, a decent movie...a solid 7. My biggest problem was the main character's role was so clearly written for Michael Cera, and that kid was no Michael Cera.

I take issue with all of the people saying this. First off, Michael Cera didn't invent being awkward. Jesse is about 5 years older than Michael, he has been doing the whole "weird kid" thing longer anyway. Cera just hit mainstream first. If anything Jesse is more Woody Allen than Michael Cera, he gives off a sense of intellegence Michael Cera's characters normally don't have. Lastly, the character wasn't written for anyone, the directed based James on himself.

I agree and would like to add that Jesse makes the awkward thing more realistic while Cera does it more of a comedic way.

Not trying to argue with anyone about the whole Jesse/Cera awkwardness debate but what in the hell has this Jesse Eisenberg been in?

I agree that Cera didn't invent being awkward(which is commn sense really) but this is the first time I've seen Eisenberg.

Only other thing i've seen him in was Wes Craven's Cursed.

He's friggin' great in The Squid and the Whale.

Rodger Dodger and The Squid and The Whale are where I saw him first. He was in Cursed, but not Chumscrubber. I don't like Squid and The Whale as much as some people, but he is very good in that movie

I forgot to add that I think this film has one of the best soundtracks in recent memory.

you and i are going to have to step outside...

just the stewart part. i like you KB, but i'm going to have to defend her honor :cwink:

what's the matter with Kristen Stewart?

not a damn thing in my book. but KB seems to have an issue :oldrazz:

Lol sorry guys I'm just not on the Kristen Stewart train but by all means have at the caboose :woot:

so how was the movie?

Hmmmm...it's okay. Much more serious then advertised. Some characters do things for no real reason and they give you b.s. reasoning (Stars character leaving). Honestly, it's worth checking out for 3 things:

1)Hader
2)Wigg
3)Star

Everyone remembers their first summer job.The low pay,the crappy assignments.
But there's always a light at the end of the tunnel, maybe by the end of the summer you can get that nice used car,new clothes, excetera. The light for
James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) is New York City for a college education. But there's also a lovely fringe benefit to his amusement park job and it comes in the form of Em (Kristen Stewart). A building friendship may lead to romance, thats if womanizing cads, and other distractions dont get in the way.
James becomes fast friends with Joel (Martin Starr),who smokes a pipe, and who's intellectual, but mainly depressed,Mike Connell (Ryan Reynolds), the amusement park ride ,maintenance guy glides through the park, expelling his knowledge of women to James. There's aslo Lisa P (Margarita Levieva),every mans fantasy in the park.
Just enough friends to make the time at work past faster, and party with.
But Em and Jesse connect beyond their group of friends, they're attracted to each other, but they both have skeletons in their closets and as Em states"She doesnt want to mess this up" with James.
He easily falls for Em,as they silenty drive around one night he stares at her just taking in how great she is.
Jesse Eisenberg is terrific,he's intellectual, confident but still a bit awkward.
Kristen Stewart continues to be appealing. Her character is vulnerable but tough. She wants to be loved but in the right way.
The late 1980's tunes add to the films appeal, especially when Crowded house's Don't dream It's over, plays in the park to Fourth Of July fireworks.
The film is being promoted as "from the director of Superbad".Dont go in thinking your going to get tons of toilet humor and sight gags.
Adventureland is mainly a romantic drama with light touches of comedy laced through and through.
Its one of the most charming coming of age films i have ever seen.
Scale of 1-10 a 9

I find it hard to believe that the director did not write it for Cera or at least have him in mind while scripting it being as they have collaborated in the past and its not uncommon for directors to make a role with actors in mind.

And while Cera may not have created the awkward kid thing, he does it a hell of a lot better than Jesse, so I maintain the movie would've been better with Cera.

No way. I'm a fan of both but they approach it from two different sides.

Jesse way is more realistic and natural while Cera's is more broad and comical, farce even.

Well, expectations were everything. This movie was marketed as a comedy, so I went in expecting a comedy. Cera would've been better for a comedy as Jesse wasn't really funny.
