I recently was hired somewhat out of the blue to help stage manage the Excaliber, a local Bodybuilding show. I took tons of pictures...and here it is, my journey into the abyss of the competitive bodybuilding world

The Stage

The Grand Prize

The Trophy Room

Getting ready to go onstage
"Okay this is somewhat racist"

Trophy Girls

Work Out Room

That was just some left over stage prop.

Thanks for straying so much pam back here....because I tripped and busted my ass

Why the hell do they have to be so tan?

Definitely one of the nicest people I've met.

Nervously waits for results

You could come in pasty white if you wanted:woot: . Most people opt for tanner to enhance the appearance of their muscles...but not everyone there used it.

I understand using it for showing definition, but some of the look almost orange.

The darker you are the more dark your lines look. So, it's just kind of an appearance thing. And everyone uses different tanners. Some look brown, some orange...some even have a bluish tint.

Women should be soft, and easily overpowered.:csad:

...not like that...:csad:

Remove the tanner, hydrate them, and the pam spray they use to get shiny and they look normal. All those women presenting (sans one) were figure models. Usually they walk around with about 10 or 15 more pounds on them.

They all look incredibly gorgeous in person.

Another reason to tan is that the incredibly bright stage lights tend to wash out the skin and make it look even lighter than it already is. If you're pasty white to begin with, you'll wind up looking like you have no definition at all on stage, even if you're the biggest and most ripped dude in the competition. The darker you can manage to get, the less washed out you'll look under the lights and therefore will show more definition and size. That's why they do all the crazy things they do to get fugly looking tans that make them look like burn victims under normal lights.

Looks like you had fun, Shadow. I've never competed but I've helped a couple friends with it backstage. The things these people do to their bodies to get to competition shape and be presentable on stage is pretty remarkable (if not really very healthy the last few weeks).

Good thing they don't drop that weight, then.
As I said those girls don't walk around like that. You're looking at them after 4 weeks of intense dieting, and almost two days of dehydrating. We all went out for Pizza afterwards...they practically ate the house down before ordering sundays and milkshakes down the street.

And then they all went home and threw up or sh1t their guts out from shocking their systems with all that junk food after months of hyper-clean eating and 2-3 days of intense dehydration. Haha! :D

Oh yeah it was fun to say the least, and an excellent experience. Really gave me a dose of reality and helped me figure out exactly the areas (cough*upper chest and lats*cough) I need to start building up for next year....so I can compete.

They were all incredibly nice guys and girls. Really human, and it's kind of sad the rap they get. They aren't making spectacles of themselves and hardly any of them were fatheads...actually the only fathead was this flabby crazy chick who had no business being there.
