I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

Superhero movies are back, baby!

And the thing is both of these movie feel like superhero movies. Just good wholesome characters with extraordinary abilities doing good things. I think we desperately needed both Supes and F4 right now.

But dont worry, we'll go back to doom and gloom superhero fatigue rhetoric again when Doomsday underperforms next year. :o

Oh, and on the Surfer front...thought she was great and we absolutely 100% don't need Norrin at all as a like....616 Surfer. Garner was awesome, this needs to be the Surfer from here onward.
It's unclear if we'll see Norrin as a Surfer. Personally I'd welcome it because it'd be cool to see the two of them together. But I think whether he becomes a Surfer or not, Norrin should definitely have a role to play in Shalla Bal's story moving forward wherever that gets picked up.

I am more talking of them trying to replace Garner with a Norrin as Surfer. Yeah, you can use him as a character. But I don't think you need him as Surfer at this point

Gotta say, Lego are major losers right now. How are you not trying to put out countless sets for Superman or First Steps this summer? So lame that they're just not in that kind of business for kids anymore.

They've got the one set for FF. It's better than nothing but there should be at least one more set for their ship and maybe the Baxter Building.

But the toy industry also isn't what it used to be when it comes to film properties for kids or collectors, at least with superheroes and Star Wars. Jurassic and Disney properties like Stitch and Moana seem to still do okay. I'm kind of surprised that Gunn's Superman has as much merch as it does. No Lego but plenty of options for action figures.

The MCU hasn't had a big toy blitz like that in a while. I think both Lego and Hasbro got overzealous with pushing Eternals products out there which stayed on shelves for months after the movie came and went. As a result, they've scaled back since then with the focus still mainly going to the Marvel Legends figures which have also been more restrained than they were in the past. They only made half the team for Thunderbolts.

Let me guess, it costs like $100 USD :o

FANTASTICCCCCC FOURRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Well, the curse is broken...
We finally have an epic and an all time F4 (and Superman) movie back to back!

This is truly a win for us fans....Marvel and DC fans 😊

With everything horrible happening in the world right now, it’s nice to have a few of these small wins to escape into. I honestly never thought I would see a Superman (or F4) movie truly embraced again after all the misfires. Glad to see DC and Marvel back on the top of their games.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a straightforward romp that is fun first and foremost. I especially love the setting of retro futuristic world and its environment. A blend of Jonathan Hickman's run, John Byrne's, Mark Millar's until Stan Lee & Jack Kirby's classic romp...the movie really nails the ideals of what the Fantastic Four, as a whole is supposed to be. Seeing all 4 share the moment and work things out together is such a joy to watch!

The scene where the F4 escaping Galactus' ship is ridiculously INSANE!! What an epic sequence!!

My favorite character of all 4 is Johnny...unlike the previous version where he was merely depicted as an underwear model (that movie's direct quote, not mine lol), Joseph Quinn's Johnny shown what he's actually capable of, besides a cool power set.
Ebon Moss Bachrach's Ben is my second favorite, and I am glad they showed a glimpse of his Jewish background (eventhough it is kind of "blink and you miss it")
Pedro is Pedro...charming as ever 😃
However, specifically I want to talk about Vanessa Kirby as Sue...maybe this is a hot take but I feel that she's a little miscast as Sue...her deep voice and her cold looks are not what I'd expected from Sue...imo, she's more fit to play character like Emma Frost, for example. But this is a small nitpick, though, as she made a solid performance overall.

It is cliche to say that F4: First Steps was the best MCU movie since Endgame, but, IMO it definitely is the movie that put the MCU back on the right track again after a few missteps for the last 2 years. We don't have to do the homework of watching previous movies or shows to really understand whats going on, it skips all of that and instead focuses on the fun.

And for the mid credit scene...despite I got spoiled beforehand...but thankfully I was still very much enjoying the whole experience, eventhough
still a little annoyed that it kind ruined the feeling of seeing Doom makes his appearance for the very first time in the MCU (though I doubt that is truly RDJ, since his name didn't show up in the credit)

9.5/10

Damn, phones and the internet. Can't have anything nice for kids, man.

Friend, Johnny was a pleasant surprise in this movie.

I love the fact that he was clever enough to decipher the Silver Surfer's message and how they flipped the Norrin/Alicia Masters dynamic with Johnny and Shalla. That was really well done and gave Johnny more.

But I soooo disagree about Vanessa's Sue. She was the equivalent of a mother who would lift a car to rescue her baby. She was very powerful and warm IMO. However, I think Pedro played Reed and his coolness a little too well. Wish he was a bit more fatherly, but he was really a comic accurate Reed.

But for real, overall the movie was so good. I knew they would deliver lol.

I'm still high from First Steps.

Spider will disagree, but for real, the sequel should be The Fantastic Four: Inhumans Among Us.

Recast all of Attilan and go from there lol.
I dont dislike the story or the Inhumans. I just think we skip that for now cause that show still lingers, lol! My personal choice would be Psycho-Man

Pedro being less fatherly didn't bother me cause Reed sort of is cold and not overtly emotional. So his fatherly instincts manifest in more practical ways. Like making HERBIE a honey do list lol

That is true, that's why I'm side-eying people who say that Pedro was miscast. That scene when he was holding Baby Franklin and asking him if he was a space god, and then the whole 'I'll let you show me who you are' line, all of that was SO Reed.

It's wild this was rated PG.

Ah...I also wish they showed a whole battle montage with other villains, not just Mole-Man.

They mentioned Red Ghost (we only saw his Super Apes), Diablo, Wizard...

But the re-visualization of the first issue's cover was such a nice touch!

I am happy that they also showed homage to both Stan Lee and Jack Kirby (the name of the space ship is Excelsior, which came from the famous quote from Stan, and Kirby's birthday is the number of this Earth)

UPDATE - Changed to Instagram instead of Bluesky since its easier to view embedded. And after researching on Google and Reddit lol, here's the total list (left to right):

Madame Xanadu as Sister Symmetry
Silent Knight
Exoristos
Black Pirate
Miss Liberty
Windrunner
Super-Chief
El Diablo
Iron Monroe
Ghost of Flanders
Sandman
Amazing-Man
Zatarra
Liberty Belle
Bulletman
Max Mercury
Bulletgirl
TNT
Dynamite
Phantom Lady
Atomic Knight
Freedom Beast
Wildcat
Vibe
Gunfire
Maxwell Lord (cause he has an ego and paid for the mural lol)
