Wonder Woman Movie in Development

He can like her work and that work can also not be good.
Sure, but that's not the same thing as claiming she's probably getting hired for reasons other than perceived quality.

He can like her work and that work can also not be good. Both things can be true at the same time. It's not like Gunn is some transcendently gifted filmmaker and never has bad taste.

This is all just speculation because we don't actually know if she's a good writer or not. It's just odd that the keys to the DCU are being given to someone so unproven, especially with a franchise of this scale. I'm not against it, but I also can't help but be a little worried.
Agreed, we really don't know anything right now about her work and Gunn isn't the be all and end all of scripts, but if I had to take a guess, there is probably a rough cut of the Supergirl movie as we speak since it finished filming about 2 months ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if they like what they see.

Also, she was hired by the previous regime at WB to write Supergirl so it's not like she was Gunn's personal pick.

It will just be interesting to see what approach they take with Wonder Woman since the origin story is likely off the table.

I don't think it's disparaging to say that she was hired because Gunn likes working with her. I think that's a relatively neutral thing statement, regardless of her talent. My point was that we're talking about a creative enterprise, so what Gunn finds entertaining might not appeal to everyone. He was involved with Troma, after all.

Usually when writers are hired on projects like this they have some kind of track record to gauge their abilities. It's pretty novel that Supergirl will be her first produced work. I'm perfectly willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. It just seems a little reckless on Gunn's part to attach her to multiple projects before the public has had a chance to experience her work.

People are gagged over Nate Mann as the DCU Batman fancast (I may be one of them), but he’d also be good for Steve Trevor (or Cyclops).

Chris Pine’s a tough act to follow; MBJ would be good in the role. You gotta get someone super charismatic/charming in there.
You know funny enough speaking of Chris Pine, if they're gonna add Steve Trevor to the film (maybe as an agent to Rick Flag Sr's A.R.G.U.S. team) WB might wanna consider having an A list actor for the role, worked great for having Pine in her first film and Pedro Pascal is currently a big engagement catch for F4: first steps.

In that case, Glen Powell or Michael B Jordan for Steve

I do hope they go with a woman to direct this one. Supergirl not getting one felt wrong.
I'd love to see what Coralie Fargeat could do with WW. I haven't seen any of her other work, but I was just so damn impressed with The Substance that I feel like she could do any genre tbh.

Hot take: What if Coralie Fargeat directed Brave And The Bold?

No reason why female directors should be limited to only directing female lead/female protagonists movies. I don't mind a man directing Supergirl. But if a man can direct a female lead superhero movie, there is no reason a woman couldn't direct a male lead superhero movie as well.

I'm honestly drawing a blank at who I think could play her, maybe due to just being so used to Gal now...

I second this.

Honestly, I'd be down for Coralie to direct ANYTHING in the DCU. The action in The Substance was very intense and purposeful so sure, give her Batman!

Actually, just realized that her films are written by her so I don't think she'll wanna direct anything written by someone else.

Maybe a little too youthful looking but sure give her an audition.

I'll assume you're referring to Eaton, so... Courtney is almost 30 and i have to say i can't see the youthful look you're seeing for some reason. I find her much less believable as a teenager in "Yellowjackets" then as a mature looking woman for Wonder Woman,

Courtney would be fine and you could even cast the older version of her (Simone Kessell) as Hyppolyta.
