Only one GOT spinoff has come to fruition thus far, so we’ll see, but I think it’s a meaty period of time for a show to explore.

So a third show about Targaryens and their fight for the iron throne. It's beginning to look like another case of Star Wars and the Skywalkers. A Song of Ice and Fire has a vast universe and a big variety of things to show and they seem to keep focusing on the same family and themes. I hope The Tales of Dunk and Egg or 10.000 Ships will get made instead.

It could be good but I'd much prefer Dunk & Egg or anything that isn't entirely Targ based. One Targ show is enough.

Maybe, but in this case there’s source material that largely, in one way or another, points back to the Targaryens and their power.

Is the elevator pitch of it all a bit repetitive? A little. But I think there’s something here that’s well worth exploring.

But nevertheless, I would like to see Dunk and Egg happen too.

I find the Blackfyre Rebellions to be more compelling era to explore, but I’d rather they not touch that until George finishes F&B II in twenty years.

I'd think the logical way to do this would be to just wait 'til the Dance runs its course and maybe turn HOTD into an anthology show? Having both feels a little off to me. I'll watch it and probably love it though.

Oh **** yes.

Oh Lord…

The least imaginative people alive.

"In speaking to George, it became really clear, 'This is history, treat this like it is what happened,'" he explains. "Unlike the original series, I don't have thousands of pages to go off to adapt. I've got a couple hundred that I'm really focused on, and in those pages of Fire & Blood, there are a lot of clues. It kind of turns into doing Napoleon or doing Alexander the Great or doing some great historical figure where we know a lot about the guy. We know where he was, we know who he conquered, we know who lived, and we know who died. That all becomes the plot, and then it becomes my job to go, but what did it mean thematically? How did it feel? What were the emotions when this person died and this person lived? We don't have the context. We don't know what anybody said."

Mattson, if you’re seeing this, drop some details. This is a safe space, we won’t tell anyone.

This and a prequel series centered around Robert's Rebellion are what I want to see most as far as GOT spinoffs go.

What is it with Aegon Targaryens in every single Song of Ice and Fire show? Besides this we had one in Game of Thrones, another one in House of the Dragon and yet another one in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. They're like the new Skywalkers. :oldrazz:

It's like the equivalent of how many Georges have been in the British Royal Family through the ages. Aegon the Conqueror is the OG but House of the Dragon really threw the name into infamy with that whole misunderstanding from Alicent.

I’m torn on the idea of a Robert’s Rebellion thing.

On the one hand, I’d absolutely be first in line to watch it, but I also feel like what has made HOTD work and what makes this project so appealing is that it’s so far removed from the GOT narrative that there’s plenty of room for some real surprises.

With Robert’s Rebellion, I almost feel like it’s too closely linked to GOT and the TV audience (not to mention the book-readers) know too much about that period already. It would basically be a series dedicated to filling gaps. Plus, we would end up seeing so many major Thrones roles recast and that’s going to be a big undertaking in terms of getting the audience on-board.

But again, if they do it, I’m in. I just have to acknowledge the risks.

Way back I thought they should have done it as an animated movie or series, that way they could bring back much of the cast as well as keep the budget down. But that was also before both Game of Thrones and later House of the Dragon started to look like Hollywood blockbusters so if they tackle it they may as go live action. Yeah, there's little to no surprise but it could just be an entertaining way to fill gaps.

I would be intrigued to see the casting, though.

The only one I’ve really considered is Richard Armitage for Tywin.

A little more detail here…

Am I just imagining there having been a scoop about doing a Doom of Valyria film leading into the Aegon’s Conquest series or did that really happen? Or did one of you suggest it?

Would be shocked if she’s not talking about the Conquest here…

New ‘Game Of Thrones’ Offshoot

While A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is what Orsi called an “intimate” production, that will be the exception and not the norm in growing the Game of Thrones universe.

“We have other spinoffs that we’re working on right now, one of which — which I won’t get into — is very promising, and it is still the Targaryen line,” Orsi said. “There’s a number of other spinoffs, we can’t really guarantee what’s going to go forward, but we are very big budget on the other ones. I would say this is the most intimate one.”

“You know what, it was worth the wait,” Orsi said about the upcoming battle scene.
It'll have been a four year wait by then. Go home.
