The Force Awakens After the opening Crawl, predictions for the first thing we see...

Well we lost "Episode VII" in the title and got shakey cam and upside down shots. That trailer made me worried that we'll be losing consistent elements of the saga like that in favour of "artistic vision".

There's no episode title there, it's only the prequels which originally had the episode number in the actual titles, the OT just had them in the crawls.

Why would you be when JJ loves Star Wars. It's a genuine love. The crawl will be in there. It's random to worry about something like this.

It's like worrying about John Williams using only a synthesizer for the film's score.

I know, I know. I'm just being cautious. :csad: Star Wars is very dear to me. I don't know if I can take another PM or AOTC.

At least JJ will be able to have a character say "Punch it!" without it sounding out of place. (I.E. his Star Trek films.:woot:)

It was on Star Wars Underworld or Making of Star Wars that someone who is supposedly involved in the production said the camera doesn't pan after the crawl. It does something that hasn't been done in the previous films. If that is true then my hope is that a ship comes out of hyperspace right at the camera.

It'd certainly be a dynamic way to start things.

I think that JJ wants to pay homage to the original films - and since all three originals start with a shot of a Star Destroyer in space, I think he'll start with either the lone surviving Star Destroyer entering frame or another Empire ship.

I predict after the crawl the camera will pan around a dark cave - A cave where Luke is secluded - he wakes up from a nightmare, maybe similar to how John jumped up in his storm trooper outfit- Perhaps from a meditation? He still has his hood on. Perhaps we see glimpses of what he is having a nightmare about. Is it of the Past? the Future? War? Death? Vader? The Emperor? Is he still afraid he will become like his father? Is someone haunting him? Maybe he senses something odd with the force? We barely see his face but we later see it to be Luke. He walks out of the cave and greets the day.

Revenge of the Sith also begins with an opening shot of a Star Destroyer, I think The Force Awakens should begin with one, but VII and IX should move into their own territory in the same way The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones begin with their own ships.

if we're talking homage to the OT, then the first ship we see will contain a villian!

Totally agree.

Yep - I think "a" villain or "the" villain will be introduced first; it would just be smart IMO. Start off with the threat and then introduce the heroes.

Episode VII was only dropped from marketing. The originals didn't have the Episode moniker on marketing, either. So that's nothing inconsistent.

I will quote this here too.

Also on the official website you still click on "VII" to go to it. All the production staff wore the "VII" It will be on the opening crawl there is no denying that. But it just won't be on the marketing.

There was no "Episode" talk outside of the opening scrawls until after the DVD release in 2004. Before then it was always this:

I think removing the episode number is reflective of a current trend with these big franchise movies these days. Taking numbers out of the title helps combat any perceived fatigue if it's a franchise with a lot of sequels.

For instance, Jurassic World and Terminator Genisys (as dumb as that title is) probably sound less eye-roll inducing than Jurassic Park 4 or Terminator 5.

But yeah, having the episode number in the crawl for a Star Wars movie is very important and there's literally 0 chance that it wouldn't be there.

Shakey cam is fine, this is what Star Wars was originally about. An ongoing story told by various directors, with their own artistic flair added to each one. This is why Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi all feel very different from one another- they all had different directors.

Taking knods from the Phantom Menace isn't exactly what i'd want them to do

Grow up. Phantom Menace isn't even a bad film, it's just average. It opened in a similar manner to every other Star Wars film, so by extension of not following Menace, they should also not follow Hope or Empire.

Ya this has come back and I think it's a good thing. For the past 7 or so years there was more getting rid of numbers in sequels again. There are still some, Iron Man (and to a point GoTG2) however the rest of the MCU films just use the name and new subtitles. I do prefer that more than 1, 2, 3 etc. I love the roman numerals in the opening crawl but other then that I like the focus on the subtitles.

...

I understand that - this is common knowledge. But Kershner and Marquand understood that certain aspects of their respective films had to be consistent with the tone of "Star Wars". We'll see what happens come Winter 2015 I guess.

Asteroid-Man, you're coming off as overly paranoid.

How about this: we see the prow of a Star Destroyer float past, then as it floats on. We realize we're looking at a destroyed husk of the classic ship, and more and more wreckage starts to float by. Then we see an X wing go screaming through the wreckage being pursued by several TIEs, and we follow them back into an engagement between a lone new Star Destroyer and numerous smaller Republic ships. The following sequence establishes that both sides are brave and cunning, as the Star Destroyer gives as good as it gets, and the sequence ends once Republic reinforcements arrive, lead by... Admiral Han Solo.
