The Dark Knight AICN: Costume change happens ON camera?

i bet the "plot point" is that alfred finally gets tired of reparing the Nomex suit. kinda like this:

BRUCE:
Alfred, when are you going to repair the suit?

ALFRED:
Nevah! Get a new one.

I lol'd.

NEVAH!:woot: (someone should make an Alfred smiley)

my deepest and sincerest thanks, spencer. :woot:

actually, i think the plot point might be that Lucius Fox has developed an improved version of the Nomex suit, like a "Mark II" or something like that. the kevlar bi-weave is stronger but the suit itself is slimmer and more flexible than the Mark I, and allows for more fluid mobility. just little upgrades like that, but it happens in the middle of the film after a particularly nasty acidflower attack by Joker eats away at the old suit and actually forces Bruce to get a new suit.

Im hoping it has something to do with Joker as well.

An itneresting rumor, to say the least. Let´s see what happens.

hmm interesting to say the least..definatly something we havn't thought of.

I am all for change, let's embrace it.

well, we know the batsuit is flame resistant, thanks to scarecrow. i bet joker will get batman with Acid, burning the suit....hence getting a new one.

Gee, and I was hoping he'd have the modified suit in the beginning of the movie, not halfway through it.

D'oh!

i actually think its a good thing that Nolan is introducing the Mark II that way. it retains the continuity of Begins while showing that Batman's techniques and weapons are improving.

The only way I could accept a new suit is an on screen change, instead of film to film a la the last series. Sounds fine to me and lines up with the "similar yet more fabric like batsuit" reports we've heard

I was thinking that, or somehow his suit gets stripped off him. Either way, good news if we're getting less rubber.

I really hope it's something different, just to see the back-pedaling of anyone that said the rubber suit was perfect. :o

I love this idea. It's great we'll get a reason for the suit changing, and not having to wonder what happened to it if he just turned up in a new one.

I don't see why they would have to 'have to change on camera'. If it's a sleek version of the rubber suit, then through the process of movie magic, just do it and don't tell the audience.

However, if it's like....hardcore different, where Bats changes from the rubber to something like super thin (ala Spider-Man) then I guess I can see why they need to explain it.

Very good point Octoberist. If this rumor is legit then the very fact that the costume change is a plot point strongly suggest that its a very noticable alteration from the BB suit to a TDK suit.

Certainly this will represent not only an evolution of the Batsuit into an more familar iconic appearance but also symbolic of Batman's growth and development into the way he has been portrayed in the comics and animated series over the past 10 years.

i am so for it. i loved the batman begins suit but i think i would like a slimmer suit

Good news, I think that it will be a great thing to do the change onscreen and explain why with a reasonable explanation(as we obviously know that nolan will give us) but it could also work to show batmans progress into the more experienced bats we all know so the suit change can work in the sense that bats needs a more advanced suit probably lighter more flexible(which they can explain in the film) and yet at the same time maybe fox and co have managed to create a thinner but stronger armor allowing batman to move faster and at the same time have more protection. It also could work simbolicaly demonstrating batmans evolution in all aspects. As the reason to why, well Iam thinking the obvious maybe the joker sprays batman with acid or he simply comes to the conclusion that the mission has gotten tougher than he expected and that his prototype needs an update.

I would think a "significant plot point" would revolve around something causing Bruce to need a new suit....sure maybe acid, but what if it's driven by tragety?

For instance someone significant dies or is seriously harmed and either Bruce realises he cannot keep up with the baddies in his old suit or (Im leaning toward this more) Bruce becomes more driven and angered after a tragety that he developes less reguard for his own body or he realises he needs to preform better and the old suit wont cut it?

Or even this scenerio- Lucious retires

(A big box is placed on Bruce Waynes desk, Bruce looks up to see Lucious Fox grinning at him)

Bruce- What's this?
Lucious- Consider it my retirement gift..
Bruce- Didn't you get the Wayne Enterprises coffee mug?
Lucious- Oh, I got that.....I particullary like the car that came with it.
Bruce- Just a little thank you....
Lucious- Yea, I liked my last check too...
Bruce- That was the big thank you.
Lucious- Well here is my big thank you to you.
Bruce- For what?
Lucious- For doing what you do.....and giving this city, my city...hope.

(Opens the gift to see a new Bat suit)

Bruce- Thanks lucious...

I didn't hate nor love the suit from Begins. Personally you can't really put a guy in real life into tights and all that jazz and make it look as good as it does on paper in the comic books, so you gotta go the route of big black armored suit. Plus it's logical considering what Batman does.

I look at it this way. Remember Iron Man's first suit? It was big and bulky. Eventually he progressed to a better slimmer version. I hope to see that with Batman in "The Dark Knight." Plus let's think about the title. The Dark Knight. It's gonna be darker...maybe a more....I don't know "Dark Knight" looking costume. You guys know what I mean? Some of his costumes are like something straight out of the 10th level of hell.

And people bring up a good point. Maybe the Joker does splash Bats with acid and it destroys the suit. After all it is just a prototype with no others around. And, yeah...Lucius it's safe to say is Bruce's "tailor" in this incarnation.

Love the idea of a DARK KNIGHT type suit. Good thinking! :D

Bruce- ...but why are you giving me a Batman suit?

Lucious- Come on Mr. Wayne, not this bull**** again! I said before don't take me for an idiot. Do it again, I'm going to have to whup your ass Batman or not.

Bruce - O.k. I'm sorry. Hey, you don't think Gordon knows do you?

Lucious - Yep.

Bruce - Damn, so much for a secret identity.

But Lucius wasn't the one who made the suit was he? And plus, won't he be more busy being a board member;showing billionaire playboys how to improve suits must take a lot time to do by yourself.

I wonder if the new suit will only be temporary, or will actually continue to the next movie? It doesn't actually say that the suit will be an improvement, it could be a downgrade, considering if time is factor.

I like the idea of Batman having to change up his gear/equipment based on new challenges/obstacles. Hope the new costume is sweeter -- I had no issue with the BB costume, but it's not my favorite and I would prefer one that is less bulky and more streamlined, particularly the cowl.

There's just thing that gets me:

How is a costume change a significant plot point ?

I think that It's probably at some point in the middle that Alfred and Bruce are chilling in the batcave pondering why they can't beat The Joker,Justin Timberlake Dances in and tells them they need to bring sexy back so it's all trunks and chains for the new suit and Rachel will don a leather bra with machine guns attached to it,the third act will be all out sexualtastic fighting and explosions in slow mo:up:

I can see them holdin' hands, walkin' on the beach, their toes in the sand.
