ugh i hate my mouse! i guess it's time to finally get a new one :wall:

Like I said DS has the video. I didn't want any part of that.

So... You're saying I should have killed DS when I had the chance in Istanbul? See... I guess you're right Kev. A kill crazy rampage will solve all your problems.

It's great as long as there aren't any witnesses. Otherwise if they get away then you have to chase them down and get them and if they get to a new city you have to go after any witnesses to that, it's a crazy cycle. On the plus side, great way to see the country.

It really is. Just coasting down the highway, the sound of the tires on the asphalt, and the steady "bump-bump" of the corpses in your trunk... That's the life.

And a new car every day!

Boy, does the FBI really hate me.

Hi everyone,

I thought this would be the most appropriate place to say hi! I’ve been browsing the site on a daily basis for quite a while, and decided to sign up with an account so I could start contributing.

Big movie fan here, and the comic book movie genre is one of my favourites even though I never read the comics.

Cheers,

HKpowerup.

Greetings HK. Welcome. Enjoy the place. Please visit the Community area often. Can I assume you are in Hong Kong?

Oh... And please don't be another pedantic *****e-bag. We have more than our quota filled for this month. :cwink:

Hidey-ho.

What are you talkin' bout? They love you, what with all the overtime.

Well there was that one time at that hotel with that other guy on the loose from prison and some agents there looking for him. We had a whole Benny Hill thing going on that night and I may have accidentally put something in their trunk that meant to go in mine instead. The local police found it and now they're doing 25 to life.

Hi! Thanks. Yes I am from Hong Kong indeed.

Hahaha rest assured ;)

On a serious note, what attracted me to this place (one of many reasons) is the fact that the forums are properly moderated to filter out the idiots, trolls, etc. Have you seen what the posts are like on the IMDB boards as of late? Oh my god.

I am a bit of a techno illiterate, but I was looking through various other forums for a while, and man are you correct. The mods are all pretty much on top of it round here, though, that doesn't mean there aren't some sharp verbal elbows thrown a lot too. But still, scads better to my eyes as compared to other places. Can we get a mini bio with out you revealing too much? What's your background? Were you born in Hong Kong? What particular franchises and genres do you like?

Born and raised in Hong Kong, yes.

I love watching movies. I'm open to most genres, although I avoid horror films (although I can tolerate mild horror, and perhaps horror combined with other genres).

And in the last few years, I've taken a huge liking to the comic book movie genre.

The Dark Knight trilogy, original Superman movies (parts 1 and 2), Iron Man 1 and The Incredible Hulk (2008) were influential in my developing an interest in this genre.

And now I'm a comic book movie/superhero movie fan. But that doesn't mean I won't be objective when I review a film. But I love discussing the genre, the different universes, the characters, their powers, etc.

Are you one of the young ones or are you a fogey like me? (I am 38 years old) SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE was the first film I ever went to the theaters to see. I was 2 years old. My grandmother took me. And that was it. I was hooked. I was an avid comic book collector, but sci fi, action, martial art movies are all passions of mine. Though I also have a soft spot for musicals and of course any type of story really if it's done well and I find it engaging. May I say, your typed English is damned good. What do you do over in HK? I'm a concierge at a building in SOHO, Manhattan. I use the Hype forums to basically help me stay up during my overnight shift.

welcome to the Hype HKpowerup

Very early 30s :)

I've seen the original Superman movie a few times before in my younger days, however upon re-watching it a few years ago, for some reason it just clicked with me like never before, and I found the character fascinating. Loved the MoS reboot. And then I started seeing how popular comic book movies were online, how Marvel was doing a shared universe called the MCU, saw the Dark Knight trilogy....and as they say, the rest is history. I then delved into other properties/franchises I hadn’t seen before (like X-Men).

I wish I read the comics before, like you. It must've been very special seeing your childhood favourites materialising on the big screen for the first time. I hadn't even heard of the likes of Iron Man or Thor until a few years ago!

If I had to choose, I would say the sci-fi, romance and war genres are generally my favourites, but I am able to enjoy almost any movie if it's well-made regardless of the genre (except horror!!).

That's very nice of you to say, although I don't think my command of the language is anything special. Maybe it helps that I'm a native speaker. I currently teach.

Time must fly by when you browse the forums during your shift!

Well it does help and it keeps me informed about what's going on in entertainment for sure. I have a friend who is just like me, but he's not a hype forum member. He'll text me with some rumor or some information that has finally reached him and he thinks he's going to surprise me but then I text him back with "Yeah. Already heard about that on the Hype forums last night".

Well I'd say your English is just fine. I assure you, your English is better than my Cantonese or Mandarin. :woot:

It's interesting that you came to enjoying Comic Book movies and their heroes at such a late age. I am an atheist, but I did over ten years of Catholic School and I love the writings of Joeseph Campbell and others that explore mythology. To my eyes, the comic book superhero is just another in a long line of cultural phenomenon that are for lack of a better word "gods", and just like religions of any kind, usually we get exposed to the deities and canon of the religion as a child, and it's no different with super heroes to me. Most modern comic book super heroes are American in origin but you've seen a spread of similar cultural heroes in the last 30 years. Goku of DRAGON BALL Z may be based on JOURNEY TO THE WEST, but there for sure is also a lot of influence from the Superman mythology. I am happy to hear you enjoyed MOS. I love SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE with all my heart, but I was very impressed with MAN OF STEEL. It worked on all the levels it needed to for me. It gets a very bad rap around these boards though, so if you share your opinion of MOS, be prepared to either take it on the chin quietly or to defend your position strongly.

Are there any interesting native Chinese super hero type characters or stories you might think would be cool for us all to check out?

PS: You have no idea how it feels to have been so devoted to these childhood heroes and to now see so many of them in live action, and many of them done in ways that are so close to the source material. It feels really good, despite all the stupid arguments that are had around here, even the most jaded would probably agree about that. I grew up with MARVEL and DC comics and soon my tv and local theaters will be brimming with those heroes. It's nice.
