The biggest surprise tonight was the confirmation of old-school Green Lantern and Sandman in the Smallville movie, 'Absolute Justice', though we only saw glimpses in the trailer.

What does this mean for the GL movie? Will it share the back-story and continuity? Or will it be its own completely separate thing?

Now that we've already seen the ring design SV:AJ, will the movie be using the same?

i have a really strong feeling that smallville will be its own universe as has been most of the characters in smallville. i also have a feeling that we wont be seeing green lantern, it will just be apart of the backstory for the jsa story. kind of like who's been on the team in the past. it'll really just be fate, hawkman, and stargirl but with sprinkles of other characters like easter eggs.

actually from reports for the jsa two parter/movie the only guys we are actually seeing interacting with jl is hawkman/fate/stargirl. The whole thing with alan's ring/sandman mask and the portait was just giving nods to the characters they legally were not allowed to have. But still pretty cool move. I was a bit shocked they even go the ring and golden age flash in the portait there.

I thought I caught a glimpse of a Green Lantern ring in the trailer, I just assumed I was mistaken as I thought they where on the list of no-noes for Smallville.

well i believe its a no no for him actually showing up. Like i brought up the gl ring and sandman mask were more for just being nods to the jsa members they legally couldnt actually have in the episode. Plus they might have gotten lucky for example with the gl ring.

That was definitely the Golden age Green Lantern's ring that got a cam shot in the trailer. I guess we will have to wait until next year to see how much of Alan Scott we will see int the show. I have to admit that the timing couldn't be better since we will get to see Alan in Smallville and then Hal featured in the Justice League DTV the following month and then the start of filming of the Green Lantern movie in March.

Update: Here is the trailer:

Alan Scott could equal Gotham City, which would be a relief to many, correct?

I don't know too much about Gotham City, but he (Alan Scott) will defininely be in it. I also hear that Hawkman and Star Girl will be in it as well and the episode before that will feature the return of Serinda Swan and Zatanna. So long as Christopher Nolan has the rights to the Batman franchise, I doubt we will ever see him appear in any other live action TV show.

well from what we know the only ones we are actually seeing fully in the tv movie thing is hawkman, dr. fate, and stargirl. As for the alan scott ring, and seeing sandman also in the promo they are probably just very nice nods johns was able to get added into the two parter/movie. Like how in the legion episode we got refrence to lighting lad sister, the subs(subsitute legion group), and brainiac 5 and all that. Cant wait to see how it goes.

It's on the wrong hand.

That's not Green Lantern. I'm sure in the Smallville universe it will be...

The Statesman.

its been stated before we are likely not going to phsyically see alan or even jay(flash) due to the film rights issues like batman/wonder woman. At most it will probably just be that a nod to them like the portiat thing. Unless out of some miracle wb folks said it was ok for sv to have scott gl fully in the jsa thing.

That's why I thought they might go with The Statesman like they went with Impulse.
Different costume. Different name. Same powers.

Umm... that's the right hand. Take you right fist and point it at yourself to check. Also, remember that Green Lanters wear their rings on the middle finger.

even if its on the right hand is it right side up?

Yeah, it IS the Right hand, which for Alan Scott (who's LEFT handed) is the wrong hand. :cwink:

That ring by the way looks like a fake piece of toy.

And that answer would be yes. For those of you that don't know, Alan Scott was a former railroad engineer and he carved and shaped his ring by hand to look like the lantern from wich it came from. The original lantern looked like a railroad lantern which had a tapered base and a rounded cap, just like the ring indicates.

ah ok thanks i was wondering if they had the ring right side up or not, cause i dont know how scott's gl ring is.

Yeah... he's wearing the ring on the wrong hand... that's kind of a let down.

But even a mention of a Green Lantern in any shape fashion or form on Smallville is what I've been wading through seasons of crap for.

And on a side note.

I hope they give him the black/green cape ala Alex Ross, rather than the Purple/Green cape.

I'm not surprised Johns threw this nod in, but it's just a nod.

Shanks (Hawkman) confirmed there would just be brief visual nods/flashbacks to the other members.

I'm very skeptical they'll actually refer to him as "Green Lantern" onscreen either.

It's pretty much off limits. He can only be called something like 'Sentinel' here or 'Statesmen' as the above poster mentioned...

Similar to the Justice Guild JL episode where Scott and Garrick weren't available for use:

But they probably won't even address him by name.
